hey, planning on doing the j1 in New York next summer, but trying to apply for the visa is a nightmare this year with the new rules ( Students must now have a job before their granted the visa application).

Have applied to every Irish bar in the Manhattan area, heard back from one who apparently dont take on J1's.

Trying to get a list of employers who would take on J1's havn't not met in person.

Anyone know have any connections or places they previously doing the J1 with?

    Cheers ;)

Just wondering if you got sorted for a job in nyc? Currently planning on heading there myself for the summer and finding it difficult to find jobs..don't even know where to look. Stupid rules.

Craigslist is a good place to look, but you'll still have to ask if they'll hire you with a J1, sight unseen.

There are companies that will hire J1 students, such as http://www.rira.com/

The closest one to NYC is in Atlantic City - http://www.rira.com/atlantic-city/about-ri-ra/jobs.html

There are pluses to living in Atlantic City, depending on your priorities. It's a two-hour bus ride from NYC, so you can still go sightseeing on days off. It's also around 90 minutes by train to Philadelphia.

It's dirt cheap to live there compared to NYC, and RiRa is located in a great spot in the Tropicana Casino on the boardwalk. The beach is free, and with the casinos, there's plenty of night life. The rest of the city is awful, but you wouldn't have to go there anyway.
