Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

For me, its more about the speed of the GUI and accessing content. Also the heavy lifting on a Media Portal, and pulling meta data, things like that. COntent, Playback usually is all done the GPU. The CPU wouldn't be doing that. Even on a PC/laptop you'll find somethings faster or slower depending on the specific hardware, USB controller, Ethernet controller, GPU and CPU.

Yes you can do it on a tablet. It maybe similar to many streaming boxes. But not all streaming boxes.

I'm about to pull the trigger on one of these android boxes.

I can't see the one that was in the original living social offer but this one was posted from aliexpress which I'm guessing is probably similar?

A guy at work just bought this one from amazon.co.uk at twice the price.

The cheaper one from aliexpress seems to have higher specs?
    OCTA Core MALI 450 GPU versus QuadCore Mali400 High Performance 3D GPU (assuming 450 > 400 ?)
Amlogic S805 Quad-Core versus Amlogic A9 Dual Core Neon HD CPU (assuming quad > dual)

As far as android boxes at the lower price range (not looking for AFTV or FreeView etc...), is the aliexpress one a good option or is there better spec at this price?

    Thanks!

I have the Aliexpress one you have linked - for the price, it is brilliant.

The Q7 RK3188 is good value. Mate bought one recently and finds it great.

What kind of remote do you get for that price? is it air or IR?

Which plug did you get? There are 4 on the page, they hardly send 4?
    How long was delivery?
Am also curious about the remote?
    Any need for keyboard?

That's not one of the original version of that box, you may have problems.
On the other hand, it's not a direct clone, and they have put their name to it.
I'd still go for the original version, as a point of reference if/when looking for support if nothing else.
That may be a copy of the other MXQ (Which is still good).
Or it may have a different motherboard, which could cause you to brick it if you try to install one of the other ROMS.

You may also find them at better prices, i was just linking to show you.

    UK Plug

10 days delivered using Parcel Motel NI, no customs

Remote is the one pictured - IR I think, no issues with it

Keyboard is a luxury as the remote works fine but I'm glad I have one. I got that bargain Logitech one, makes any searching/typing much easier.

Only 53.99 if you buy 12 or more!!! :pac:

Was going to get one, but the sale is a complete joke. Wouldn't be dealing with such a ****ty company .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,517 ✭✭✭marcbrophy

10% off isn't so bad for 1 device, but it was set up to be a GREAT bargain :)
Should have realised when it said "from" 53.99 haha.

    Who's the shítty company? Wetek?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,766 ✭✭✭RossieMan

Ah 10% is an awful black Friday sale.
They had it set up so it looked like it was 53.99 per device earlier in the week.

I had spotted that it needed to be 12 earlier. Was not impressed.

I'm looking at the ali express box. Hmm will I or won't I , I have an old mini minix here which to be honest is not great on WiFi, I'm wondering if this might do the job better.

Yeah, somebody pointed it out in the other thread. That is terrible :(.
The support on the box is good in the forums, and you can run Enigma/OpenELEC as well as Android. But they're still not worth more than €80.
€53 + delivery would be okay for one (if delivery was less than €10).
But that price is presumably only to resellers.
Anyone that resells them needs their head checked tbh, as any buyer will skip the middle man for any friends/family.

    It might. €53 each.
    How much is shipping?

    The community is good.

I just checked, shipping is free?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,766 ✭✭✭RossieMan

Shipping free makes it interesting. If be up for it. Now only to find 10 more souls who'd order.

Any review of them as I don't see much spec on the site where they're for sale?
So we're talking €53.99*10 + delivery to individuals. Wonder would Fastway do it at €5 per delivery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,249 ✭✭✭GY A1

    ya think delivery is free.
    Great bargain at €53 each.
    I'd be interested in 3 or 4
Can run enigma 2 image solid now and can have kodi alongside enigma 2 also

  • Registered Users Posts: 308 ✭✭cizolin

I'd be interested in buying a couple or so to make up the numbers. Have different one ordered but I know the family will want one once they see my one up and running.

Is it free delivery in just the uk though?

I doubt it, say we could organise a courier, heard Fastway deliver parcels from €5 each, haven't checked it out though.

Parcel motel is 4.50 per stay, could be the easiest and cheapest option.

Thought it was €3.95, or was that just for receiving?

Just receiving. If you send it to another member the smallest package size is 4.50.

No connection, but I'll ring Fastway tomorrow, see what they could do price wise.

I take it these work through Wi-Fi ??
    Not much details on site.

I'm on a tablet so not the most user friendly way, but perhaps someone with a laptop could quickly create a Google doc that people could edit their username and amount they want? Would make it a lot easier to keep track of numbers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,249 ✭✭✭GY A1

    yup can connect thru etherner
or has its own built in wifi,
using one here and wifi works perfect for enigma2 and kodi , no bother

bought mine off wetek web for 100 odd euro,
got a discount at the time of launch

What about two or three collection points? post offices?

I'm easy any way that's decided, I was just throwing something out there.

I've posted in the other thread in case anybody else is interested before the order goes in.
It's a minimum of 12, right? So it could be 933, it wouldn't make a difference.
Who can make the order? Any idea how? Paypal/Skrill - Boards/Adverts?

I might get in on this with you guys tomorrow and buy 1 or 2 of them.

Is there any particular advantage to getting this one over something like this if you aren't going to be hooking it up to an aerial / satellite?:

Don't know how the collection points would work, with us all spread throughout the country?

So we have a choice of 3 tuner options, terrestrial, satellite or cable, is that it?

    how 933

    is it not 12x53.99

The MXq you linked to can dual boot OpenELEC too, but for €5 cheaper and large community and constant updates, the Wetek would definitely be more bang for rbuck.
