Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Where is this being reported lads?

I was watching on the bbc, apparently some music venue has also been evacuated in Hannover (which is where the Germany Holland game was to take place too)

F&cking terrorist scum but fair play to the authorities for discovering it in time and getting people to safety.. it IS only football after all.

The head of Hanover police, Volker Kluwe, said they had received “concrete information that someone was planning to set off explosives inside the stadium” approximately 15 minutes after the gates of the stadium were opened.

Police have also evacuated the Tui Arena concert hall, which was due to host a gig by the band Söhne Mannheims at 8pm tonight.

Police say they’re not commenting further for now. We are still waiting for the interior ministry’s press conference to begin.

Central train startion just shut down too as another suspect device is found.

Police in Hanover have closed a section of the city's central train station as another object has been discovered.

No mention of ambulance bomb on Sky News

Most genuine news sources will want to get confirmation of things like that from a few sources before they run with it. Even Sky news.

So just so we're clear, was anything found or just a bomb scare? *

    * I know, not just a bomb scare, but you know what I mean... Was anything actually found either in hannover or in Brussels?

About 1 million refugees entered Europe, the Lebanese government believe upto 2% of them are Muslim extremists.
Europe is in a major crisis.

    From The Guardian live blog:

The interior minister for Lower Saxony, Boris Pistorius, said that no arrests had been made so far, and said he could not confirm a report in a local newspaper that explosives had been found in an ambulance outside the stadium.

Apparently now I'm only saying apparently a device was found inside the stadium .

That would be a major relief, let's hope the earlier news is indeed incorrect.

Could not confirm, or would not confirm?

Seems oddly specific for a truck disguised as an ambulance, and filled with explosives, to be reported. And even more so for the Police Chief to mention explosives.

I wonder if this is a Boy Who Cried Wolf tactic by IS. Loads of false alarms, and then a real attack.

No it's the effect of terrorism. Puts people on edge and seeing threats everywhere. Also provides numpties with opportunities for hoaxes.

Same thing happened after 9/11. People reporting every tiny plane incident or fear of opening letters because of anthrax being in them.

It will settle down in a while and then the next unexpected attack will happen and the cycle starts again.

Absolutely, but authorities have to be sharper than this imo. Both these games were very high profile in high profile locations. Both venues should have been locked down no matter what it took, as a show of strength that life and society will carry on and as a fcuk u to isis. Now, they have got a big coup causing 2 high profile events to be cancelled with what was might have been no more than a phone call.

Then again, facilitating panic and fear fits in well with a lot of other agendas too....

Great comment. And now it'll give them ideas for the future.

How, if you're the person who makes the decision on these things, do you ignore an anonymous tip for something like this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,673 ✭✭✭AllGunsBlazing

I'd imagine all it would take is for someone to leave bag unattended for people to become immediately alarmed. Or a vehicle parked somewhere where it normally wouldn't be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,055 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

How likely are we to see cancelled games in Euro2016, like tonight in Germany?

All it takes is a simple phone call or two to make a total mess of these championships.

Well I hope the Germans go after the ***** too

The only way to curb the threat of terrorism is to cut of their funds and stop the mass hysteria

You'd want to read up on your history again, the Germans can't raise an army and go after anyone!

They haven't a great record with this type of thing apparently :)

The Germans are pathology against that sort of thing, having been pathologically for it 70-80 years ago. They probably think if they keep their heads down, militarily IS and their fellow travellers won't notice them. Still that's got nothing to do with footie, so I'll leave it there so

Controlled explosion carried out in the device in main train station. Police said that it was either a bomb or a very elaborate hoax (had wires, a circuit-board and a mobile phone in it)

4 days after a terrorist attack you most certainly do not ignore an anonymous tip. Calling off the game was completely the right thing to do even if all the evidence they had a was a phone call.

Is there evidence of an anonymous tip off, and if so is there any history of isis providing tip offs before an attack? I don't think so.

Reason Germany don't get involved in this type of thing is because they are specifically prevented from raising anything but a token military and are prevented from going outside their borders since after ww2

Germany were the third largest contributor of troops to the war in Afghanistan, with over 5000 personnel there at one point.
