Somehow I think they are going to take the concept of democracy a lot more seriously than we do in western EU countries.Any country that that the pleasure of being under a monarchy, nazism and communism all in 90 years is not going to be too impressed with a alcholic petty beuracrat pretending to be an emperor. The EUs bluff has been called with Brexit and it shows daily in the way what sort of a nasty dictatorship it is in how it is dealing with Britan. The East blocers have lived thru dictatorships and are not going to tolerate another one in the garb of democracy.

My point is - and maybe it came across as a bit smart (I was trying to reflect the smart attitude of JC et al and not my own - I'm with you and Tac on this) - the Eurocrats want to rule us under one big superstate; a union of individual democracies like we have now is too tedious for them - hence all the unanimity PR stuff and all the policy "agreement"

To be honest, the more I look at everything from Brexit to the Healy-Raes to the Dail to the front pages of every damned week of news; the fewer objections I have to that. Just look at our firearms legislation versus the legislation that existed at EU level until the most recent shenanigans. Better by any country's mile.

Nothing wrong with anything from another country, and seeing that we have the worst gun laws in the EU anything would be better .Trouble is when these are filterd thru an unelected elite who hold all their crucial debates in star chamber like sessions known as Trilouges and decide that THEIR world view and only their world view is appropriate to 28 different countries and customs and cultures is where the trouble starts. Be great if we could have Czech gun laws here, with concealed carry and full auto any place in the EU.But it has never been about gun control,it is about pouplation control, always has and always will be.

As for the Haely Raes..Idiot savant [aka cute hoors] spring to mind.

Can you imagine the firearms licencing Gordian knot that would occur in the case of Northern Ireland leaving the UK ? A huge number of people with personal protection firearms not willing to surrender them ?

You mean if they joined with the Republic of Ireland?

Mass refusal/disobedience if a Dublin Government tried to requisition them.
Worst case scenario, all ownership records would vanish.

Best case, might even cause a reversal of the current pistol ban down here.

I feel Ireland has been with the entire NI question like the dog chasing cars and wanting to catch one.But wouldn't you like to ask the dog "OK you caught one...What are you going to do with it?" OK We get NI back, somehow, and after the massive nationwide piss up and many a sing song of A nation once again and the four green fields, and plenty of political hot air,and a grand ceremony of the Union Jack being hauled in off Stor mount and
Belfast city hall and the British administration sailing off into the sunset....What then?? We have to run, administrate, and govern it.Not to mind police it...And no matter what we like to think there is a new gen of ultra hard core on both sides which hasn'tand won't ever go away you know! And yes there is still plenty of fire power both legal and illegal up in the six to set the entire 32 counties alight

Imagine some brain dead clod like Dermot Ahern in Dublin"demanding" that ALL handguns are handed in as "we don't want a US style gun culture in NI either."Imagine what the answer from ex RUC or PSNI members would be or ex British military officers living up there might be??This would be grist to the mills of some of the more rabid head bangers like Billy Wright or Martin Stone pronouncing the end times on good Ulster Protestants and their wains. Even if they did, they will be armed within a few days no doubt with "Ulster funny guns" or Harland &Wolff specials"
The consequences of that relatively moot point alone being mis handled by the DOJ/AGS/Dail in this scenario should be enough to give anyone in the know screaming nightmares for the rest of their lives.

OTOH,could you imagine a bunch of DUP's and Peter Robinson types in the Dail??:D:D An opposition that actually is an opposition and opposes everything just to be bloody minded about it??:That would give our shower something to think about.:D:D

And that is why no political party except SF are looking for a border poll.
And even they would blanch at the prospect of making a success of the outcome of a "Yes" vote.

I think that the total economic collapse it would cause is a more central concern than even policing, but we're not so much drifting outside the bounds of the forum here as we are steaming towards those bounds at flank speed so let's just turn back here...

Now Sweden is talking about banning cars and trucks

    Google translate;

    "Aftonbladet's editorial is independently Socialist.

Cars have turned into deadly weapons. They have been easy to steal and then nothing has been able to stop their advance.
In Nice, Berlin, Jerusalem, London and Stockholm they have been used as effective murder machines terrorists who wanted to kill many people.
If people in the future will be protected cars must simply removed from the collection sites and city centers. It is not reasonable for a big truck can be driven right into Stockholm's popular walking street on a Friday afternoon just before Easter. Politicians have been good at protecting themselves, but now they must also ensure citizens' needs for secure environments."

When this nonsense started in Israel the PM said to the Israelis to carry concealed if they had permits to do so,and others went out and applied.A few incidents later and ramming cars into bus stops full of Israelis became a rather un pouplar method of collecting 72 virgins.A moot point that article forgot to address.

On SKY news today. Gun crime up in the UK by 42% since last year. From 1,700 cases to over 2,500. The report said that while there is an increase it was not as high as 5 years ago. Well answer me this wasn't the ban that was suppose to end gun crime introduced over 20 years ago. So going along that logic, which we knew was flawed, it should have been at 0.

I mean banning guns cuts out crime. You know like banning drugs have made them impossible to get.

I'd wager that a lot of those gun crimes are things like young fellas being caught in public with an air rifle and things like that. The problem with statistics is it only gives numbers, not examples of what has happened.

Lenn Boylan and Matt Carthy abstained on the EU firearms directive, which is slightly better than voting for it.

I don't support their policies in other areas, but at least they remained neutral on firearms.

Just watching Sky news after the latest terrorist attack shooting in Paris tonight. They had some "journalist" on it discussing what had happened and in her opinion gun control in France was part of the reason behind so many terrorist incidents. You couldn't make this crap up.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 28,557 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cass

Sweet Jesus, even more crap on SKY.

The journalist says the attacker used an automatic weapon, fair enough. These are illegal so the above about gun control is not only "full-retard", but not even researched.

Secondly they've just interviewed an American tourist who says "It looked and sounded like an AR-15". I wonder if Armalite know that a man exists that can identify their firearm from using the force.

Also the police have already reported that the attacker was using an AK.

This Lib-tard attitude/agenda is getting tiresome.

I BET that the shooter was a 'criminal'.

I BET that he was on the French police 'watch list'. Well, after having already attacked a police officer, you'd think so, right?

I BET he is 'islamic' of one kind or another.

I BET Marine LePen becomes the next French President.

NOW!! would be a very good time to go talk to the Chief Super and bank manager. Cos any surplus stuff that is coming out of EU govt or police stocks will not be available to the public anymore..Under this directive it will have to be destroyed.:( You have about ,I would say 6/12 months.

Genuine question, not trying to be smart. Would many EU governments (police/army) have stocks of M1 Carbines or Garands? Or FN FAL for that matter?

I would not be surprised to hear that most don't have a clue what they have tbh. This kind of stuff often gets locked away somewhere and forgotten about :o
