Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Solar Heat Dump

I understand that it's possible to use the central heating system as a Solar heat dump by adding a new pump.

Is it possible to do this with a zoned system using actuated valves?

Can the solar controller send a signal to the actuated valves to open? I read on boards that it's possible to by-pass the valves. Is this a realistic proposition?

There are numerous posts on the Boards re the above, but you dont need to add add a second pump when/if utilising the CH system. Simply put, you run the solar system as per normal and then utilise the CH circulating pump to pump water through the cylinder top coil and through some or all of the Rads, the heat is then transferred from the (solar heated) hot water via the top coil to the rads. Of course there are complications with zoning and the top coil motorised valve, if fitted, the boiler must also be inhibited from firing up while in dump mode, there are probably some other pitfalls as well that I havnt mentioned. If I had a E.Tube system I would certainly give this proposal serious thought. The first thing to do is to see if your Solar Controller has a heat dump facility or say what make/model you have installed.
