Venue for Engagement party just before Christmas?

Planning drinks for about about 30-40 people in town a few days before xmas to celebrate an engagement. Trying to find a venue. Clearly town is going to be very busy and lot of Christmas parties etc - but can anyone suggest somewhere that might be appropriate?

Going to be very difficult to book an area for this kind of thing.
Maybe upstairs in Brew Dock or Against the Grain?
