Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

His shoulder was above the knee joint

  • Administrators Posts: 54,110 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

You don't have to hit someone directly on the knee to seriously injure them in that sort of situation. I understand teams want to leave a bit on the 10 when they get them lined up like that but going low like that and late, when the player has already let the ball go is very dangerous IMO.

Carty's knee could very easily have completely buckled there.

Niyi has to be in the AI squad.

    Yes! Well deserved try!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,899 ✭✭✭✭BBDBB

    Good try

Poor enough conversion attempt. Difficult kick but didn't seem to bother too much.

Two pretty soft tries Connacht have conceded.

    Seymour again........and a man down.

Kelleher showing his naivety once again. Tons of pace but there's a reason he didn't get the game-time he desired at Leinster. He has a lot to learn defensively. But he'll get the game-time he needs at Connacht to learn these lessons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,384 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

All came from a poor restart where Blade ended up under the high ball.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,965 ✭✭✭connachta

Glasgow making it difficult at the breakdown. Keep disrupting Connacht ball. Connacht not quite getting numbers there in time to clear.
main issue, I feared that indeed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,071 ✭✭✭✭wp_rathead

Kellehers defence leaves a lot to be desired but he is young and will learn

8 points down not end of world playing into the wind but with man advantage should be doing better

Finlay is eating Glasgow LH alive come scrum time

Poor from Kelleher for first try. Has to trust Niyi there and go wide to his man.

excellent from glasgow so far, the most impressive performance so far this weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,384 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Lack of pre season games maybe counting against Connacht a little. Don't look very organised in defence today compared to the last month or two of last season. Tries have been too easy for Glasgow.

connacht defensively were conceding a lot of points last season too. Seems to be something they dont put as much emphasis on?

Akis passing is letting him down a bit at the moment.

Tightened up a lot towards the end of the season though. Not today unfortunately.

I agree that the lack of pre-season games is an important factor here (what exactly happened for them to be called off?). Glasgow are on absolute fire at the same time. Connacht host Ospreys next week so it doesn't get much easier...

Season end, minds focused etc. This new 10 they have needs to hit the ground running. Glasgow have made 4-5 kicks from 9/10 at the right times to just give them field position. Connacht are [admirably] trying to play non stop but its biting them today.

how did that happen? Why did they only end up with one game?

Games against French and English clubs were cancelled for various reasons. Can't exactly remember why.

Cartys had the full load of errors already.

Out on the full, conversion nowhere near and now misses touch.

Brutal 2nd half from Connacht. With the wind and all. Outscored 21-0.

This is turning from bad to embarrassing for Connacht
    Glasgow on fire

Yea they are a busted flush here.

Glasgow will probably score a few more tries. No reason to panic for Connacht because it's so early in the season though it will be annoying for other top 4 contenders that Glasgow have picked up a bonus point at a ground where most others won't.

Glasgow giving the rest of the pro12 the template to defend against connacht.

Drift in a rigid line while the cut backs are going on.

Pat is gonna have to get a plan b c and d going

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,521 ✭✭✭✭mansize

This is disappointing, but it's only Matchday 1

  • Administrators Posts: 54,110 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

The lack of fitness must be a bit of a concern for Connacht though. They cannot afford to spend 2 or 3 more weeks playing like this trying to get up to speed.

Don't think the rest of the league will get such a rusty Connacht side though completely lacking in match sharpness. Well the Ospreys might next week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,899 ✭✭✭✭BBDBB

Don't think the fitness is too far off the required pace, I think the sharpness of execution is very rusty

We playing with the intensity of a preseason match
    Fair play to Glasgow

This isnt a terrible outcome for Connacht, the victory parade is over, review and training next week will be horrific, and a challenging match next week, no harm 6 weeks out from Rd 1 of the champions cup.

Good lesson. Blade was slow, jack did nothing, kelleher was poor as was Healy. Simply rusty. Positives was the speed. So the game hasn't changed. Muldowney missed but Jack, you are no AJ. Hmmm. Hard to run the moves with Caolin and Jack playing this type of stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Couldn't watch the second half - didn't see that coming. Glasgow very impressive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,965 ✭✭✭connachta

    Junior talented team vs All-Blacks
Outclassed as we haven't had been since Saracens away 2013
I was about to write the main positives were no injuries and Robb, both vanished at the same time...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,542 ✭✭✭FACECUTTR

Bealham and Buckley were great but the rest were still on holiday. Stevenson looked ok when he came on. Carthy was very poor. Players looked lost in defence.
Hopefully it improves in the next 2 games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

I thought Stevenson looked pretty brutal when he came on... Hard to believe it's the same guy who had such great flashes for Ulster not long ago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,873 ✭✭✭Redo91

That second half performance was pathetic. No excuses.

We really missed TO'H out there. I know it was only his debut but Kelleher was very poor. At fault for the first two tries and not convincing at all under the high ball where Tiarnan excels.

As others have said this might be a blessing in disguise. Should serve as a wake up call and I trust Pat to iron out the multiple issues from today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,965 ✭✭✭connachta

Healy was terrible too, Qualter didn't step up at all. But TOH+Roux wouldn't have changed the outcome in the end.

We just have to re-gather ourselves and build the team around Bealham/Buckley/Dillane/and Aki, who made mistakes too, but clearly shown again how "special" they are

As Dillane said "Don't panic lads - It's Fixable"

Also Robb was standing in the dressing room so not as bad as first feared
Thought he was brilliant when he came on and hopefully he has a speedy recovery
