Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Welsh TMO says knock on again. Surprise surprise...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 902 ✭✭✭JPCN1

Connacht playing some class rugby and Healy must be in contention for an Irish start.

Thats harsh. Thought there was some downward pressure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Welsh TV guys are delighted. :(

In fairness, TMO is right there. He's in a better position than the ref. Right call.

Agree, with you. Welsh TMOs tend to be good and no surprise he got it correct.

Great work there off the scrum. Need to get something here to end the half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,300 ✭✭✭freyners

Guys it was a knock on. Whatever about the first this one is indisputable

Best answer to that. Great scrum.

    2nd one was dropped

I think masterson got downward pressure in the first one

Connacht should have scored there - bungled it at the end.

Personally I think there was sufficient downward pressure on at least one of the try's which was not given. I can see why they weren't but the ref was happy to give it and the tmo wouldn't make a decision until he heard the ref saying he was going to give a try.

Scarlets will be glad to go in only 7 down. Connacht have totally outplayed them. Hope we don't rue those missed chances...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,071 ✭✭✭✭wp_rathead

looked a knock on- im just sour over Masterson's try and the ignored hand in the ruck

we should be more than 7 up- very reminiscent of Cardiff away last year

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,238 ✭✭✭✭Diabhal Beag

TMO was spot on for the second call. Don't know how the ref was thinking it was OK before he was called back on it.

This is definitely going down to the wire too.

Been all Connacht. Should be much further ahead really.

If they end up losing this one they'll be kicking themselves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,816 ✭✭✭Tigerandahalf

Connacht are still not converting some guilt edge chances.
Carty has improved but Marmion is going backwards. Ponderous at the breakdown and some of his passing is poor.

Connacht should be out of sight.

The second one, given the call on my shoulders but I'd probably not have given it. The first one, definitely the right call though the grounding was fine.

Connacht are playing well and should be a lot further in front. Credit to Carty, think he's having a great game.

    Ah here.
I'm always gonna want my team to score

This time he was right. Agreed. I never disputed the decision.
    I just don't like it.
Doesn't mean I don't want him to shut up as a Connacht fan.

You said they were home town calls. I didn't see the first but the second was not a home town call at all. It was a correct call. The whole officials bashing thing needs to be called out and stamped out. There are times when it's valid and there are times when it isn't. In this case it isn't.

He said it wasn't clear, which for him a far distance from the screen is to be expected. He actually said he thought it was fine unless the TMO had something else to add.

Watching the ulster game made me miss the first few mins but we are playing some tidy stuff.

Masterson try I'm still in the should have been given camp. Looked like enough downward pressure and I'd like too see it again to see if it was knocked on after if not.

Healy is having one of those days. Scarlets must hate him

I haven't seen this but downward pressure only comes into it when the ball is loose in the in-goal. The test for a try scored by crossing the line is control and contact with the grass.

the problem seems to be the screen at the ground isnt good enough to see close up on those calls

Ok, wow, I'll watch my terminology much more closely from now on in case it's construed as "official bashing" (Did I say anything about the TMO?) and it offends you.

Anything productive to add about the match or just lurking about to attack people dissapointed in some close calls for their team?

Ya it was spilled back into the goal area by scarlets and it masterson got him arm on it. Dispute between downward or if he brushed by it.

scarlets player flicked the ball back at a ruck, masterson dived at it and looked to make contact with the ball as the ball was on the ground. the ball was loose

Ok I've seen the first one now and I'd have given it. Second one lost control.

Just saw the Masterson one and I'm not convinced about that one either. The ball was coming back up off the ground when Masterson made contact with it. Both were really tight decisions but I wouldn't be overly surprised or upset that they weren't awarded.

If that's the argument it should be a try no? As any pressure on a loose ball in the goal area is a try I think? I may have a law mixed up in my head
