Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looking at the first "try" again, Masterson has to apply downward pressure for the ball to pop up like that. That's a try for me. Second one is more marginal, last camera angle shows he probably did lose control. My Irish is rubbish but I did hear "hometown decision" from the studio analyst there... :)

If that's the argument it should be a try no? As any pressure on a loose ball in the goal area is a try I think? I may have a law mixed up in my head

That's what I thought. Apparently not but I'll let some others weigh in.

Finlay Bealham doing well since he switched to LH. He has dominated Samson Lee - no mean feat.

Masterson's was a try for me. He didn't touch it down the first tine but the ball clearly went back and he then touched it down for a try.

Healy's wasn't a try. Lost control. That is such a hard skill. You need big hands to be able to hold the ball like that in one hand and get it down.

Tg4 guys saying absolute home town decision by the tmo

If you are holding the ball, its a try if you 'touch' the ground.
If you are not holding the ball, its a try if the ball is on the ground, and you 'press down'. Touching the ball is not enough in this case, but touching the ground is enough if you are in full control of the ball.

You're right. Looked at it a few times now and I'm not really definite there was downward pressure. The ball was bouncing up and at best you could only say he got glancing contact.

Well the ball went backwards so he either

    a)grounded it. Try, or
    b) didn't ground it, knocked it backwards, proceeded to ground it. Try.

ah second silly mistake by Marmion
    Bundee needs to cool it

TMO was spot on for the second call. Don't know how the ref was thinking it was OK before he was called back on it.

This is definitely going down to the wire too.

I think he just wanted to give it because he thought the first one was a wrong call...

Yeah Masterson touched the ball when the ball was touching the ground, but he does not have any control or downward pressure. I wouldn't have awarded that either. I'd have been harder pressed to make a call on the second one, but I'd be hard pressed to argue the decision too.

If the ball is loose and you touch the ball hard enough that it bounces up off the ground, that's enough downward pressure to award a try.

A bouncing ball is not on the ground.

There is a point when a bouncing ball is on the ground. ;)

I'm not arguing that it's a try btw. Close call but he never seemed to trap the ball which would confirm downward pressure.

Connacht have been brutal in the red zone recently. Getting in plenty of good positions but not converting them into enough tries.

    Healy pace again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭d-gal

TOH must be well pissed off that he's not in the Irish training squad. Been the best fullback in Ireland this season. Some who are ahead of him (think Munster) is an absolute joke

Btw, anyone else think Muldoon needs to shut up some times? Seems to annoy a lot of refs and throws his hands up in the air a lil too often. Muldowney constantly trying to calm him!

Just keep dishing it out to Healy.

You can tell he only didn't hand out a card to save his College Road parking privileges.

Surely Marmion was held before that penalty? You could see his jersey pulling away as he was trying to run at the ball.
