Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Really? Didn't notice that myself, in fact I thought he went down with relatively minor contact with anyone. It looked/sounded painful but I'm hopeful it's something a bit more minor than a compound fracture.

Yeah, me too as I rewound a couple of times to see what happened. And between the reaction of the other players, and what looks like bone in this photo, it had me thinking it's a compound fracture.

I thought the exact same thing and was screaming at the broadcasters to take the camera off him, I thought half his leg bone was sticking out of his thigh.....but thankfully it was just a piece of brown tape from his thigh strapping sticking up at a funny angle.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

Ah, I was hoping it might have just been tape, here's another photo. Don't mind the big finger pointing to it as I was having this same discussion with someone at the time.

Hmm, maybe, I'm still not convinced. A break to the femur is really rare because it's one of the thickest bones in the body and I'd imagine a compound fracture would be pretty much unheard of.

I think more likely we're looking at ligaments/tendon damage here which as we know can be painful as ****(POC) and can happen without much contact as well. Hopefully he's alright anyway as he's been one of the standouts of the season for me.

I suppose all we can do is hope they can fix whatever the damage was and get him back on the pitch better than ever.....I'd say Eoghan is the standout candidate to our next long term captain....just a natural leader.

And to put a positive spin on it, while a player never wants to miss months at a time with a serious injury.....it will give him a prolonged period of time to focus on the gym and the body. He clearly has the brains so an extra 3 or 4kgs of muscle could be just what he needs to drive on to the national set-up.

Bit macabre looking for a protruding bone! I thought it was a knee injury, almost certainly torn ligaments. If he's lucky just medial/collateral, but quite possibly ACL. Hopefully back for the start of next season. He's been a revelation this year, I thought he was outstanding in may games but particularly Ospreys away. Best of luck to him with the recovery

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,293 ✭✭✭MarinersBlues

My first thought when I saw the way his knee moved was ACL.

    This.

They also would have been much quicker to get him off the pitch if it had.
Fractured femurs have a pretty high mortality rate (lots of internal bleeding and what-not).

was the official word not that it was a knee injury but xrays were inconclusive do anything and more scans were to be done

Yep, knee injury was the initial word, confirming what looked like it on tv. I'll be very surprised if it's not ACL. Best case scenario for that is probably return in 8 months depending on how surgery/rehab goes.

It is connachta. He's just so pessimistic that he's assuming Masterson will be at one of the other provinces, playing Champions Cup...

So top of the pro12. Now I don't know about anybody else but this week is the first week that I dream of better. Yes it has been a hugely successful season. So its time to dream. But then its time to worry. So yes we are top of the pile. I think we are getting to the point of a dream. But its the same for the players. Yes they have worked their hearts out for this but (being a bit of a golf dude) its so hard down the finishing straight to finish the argument. This is when the supporter becomes important.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,304 ✭✭✭oneofakind32

Lads, we are top of the league and we are still worried about not making the Champions cup. Do you think Munster and Leinster fans are losing sleep over not making the champions cup? They are not, it hasn't even crossed their mind yet. Connacht's lack of complacency will stand to them in the coming weeks.

If we get a home semi(in either the pro12 of challenge cup) what are the chances of Salthill being used? Ticket sales are on the up, Leinster and Munster at home are guaranteed sell outs. Having a semi at the sports ground would mean loosing out on potential ticket sales. And, if I'm not mistaken, a pro12 semi final venue needs to accommodate 10,000 fans. It would also serve as a good test run for Salthill as a potential World Cup venue.

Sorry to bring up Henshaw again but they talked about him a bit on this week Egg Chasers Rugby podcast. I have to say, I didn't feel too aggrieved about it up until now but the more I think about it, the more it stinks.

Yeah, Robby made his own decision, but maybe the IRFU should not have given him the option. Leinster certainly were trying to woe him but I find it very hard to believe the IRFU were completely impartial. Someone, somewhere in the IRFU must have given him a nudge.

If it was the reverse situation what would happen? Do you think if Gary Ringrose or Ian Madigan for whatever hypothetical reason wanted to come and play for Connacht that Leinster and the IRFU would be half as accommodating?

All this talk of more player movement is complete BS. They are only going one way. Then they wonder why players leave then when they don't get game time. If you had left Keatly at Connacht 4 years ago you could argue that both Munster and Connacht would be in a better position now.

We have to make the most of our opportunity this season because I'm worried that our squad could be gutted over the summer and we might not get a shot at silver ware again for a long time. Winning a home semi in front of a big crowd in Salthill would send a real message to the IRFU and the Irish media that "We are not here to take part, we are here to take over" as Conor McGregor said.

Have you looked at the table? I'd say Munster fans would be worried enough... you're right though, we should not be even thinking like that from top of the table.

Also, no chance of Salthill being used. The GAA agreed to their stadia being used for RWC23 if the bid is successful. There is no agreement for games before that.

Henshaw would have done a Sexton 2013 and said 'Screw this, I'm off". The IRFU aren't in a position to play this kind of hardball anymore.

If a prominent player wished to stay in Ireland but at a different province (who wanted him) then i doubt the IRFU would block it if he had viable options abroad.

at this stage we were 3rd, 3 points off 1st and 2nd, though glasgow had a game in hand

but we were playing rubbish rugby

4 rounds later we were 5th

But we were never in any real danger of missing out on Europe. Got a sh*tty enough pool draw though... and actually, that's what Connacht should be focussing on, every place they slip down increases their chances of a hellish draw next season.

to be honest... ANY draw in the champions cup next season for connacht is going to be a hellish draw.

Look at this years competition, 1 group was won by the tier 4 team.
2 groups won by tier 3 teams. 2 tier 4 teams making the quarters.
3 tier 1 teams NOT making the quarters....

there is no draw thats easier for connacht the way the competition is structured now.

they should be solely focused on pro12 play off placing and be aiming for silverware.

I'm pretty worried about Webb and Underhill vs Blade and a non-specialist openside (assuming Heenan is out)

Also Sam Davies is a very competent OH

No injury update from Connacht yet?
Could do with Cooney bein back on bench

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,965 ✭✭✭connachta

Feel this one badly is Marmion+Heenan+Ronaldson aren't in.
They can change the game in our favour

Connacht rule Masterson out for season, awaiting results of extent of knee injury. Heenan(hip)Ronaldson (knee) McKeon (ankle) monitored. Linley McKenzie

Virgin (UPC) are carrying it on channel 602, normally reserved for "Cúla4".

This Saorview red button is a new one on me, I have Sky so I'll be giving it a lash.

TG4.ie will also be streaming it.

Very disappointed for Masterson. Watched him a few times as a youths player and he was clearly very talented even then. Hopefully his recovery and rehab go well and he'll be back even stronger next season!

I'v got it Bein Sports USA here this weekend with English commentary, thank god. So TG4 have figured out the red button, I don't suppose they would have English commentary under the blue button, like S4C? They could put Rob Murphy and the GBFM boys on there, save us trying to sync the radio and the TV.

To stream BEIN to your PC just download KODI to your PC and follow the youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-JB3cBJLV4 which shows how to configure and play the streams in KODI

A few things I noticed from these photos
Looks like Ronaldson was taking some part in training.
Romaine is training with the senior squad
Roux and Finn both look to be taking part in training
Heenan looks to have sat out todays session
Perhaps the biggest shock of all is that it seems to be bright and DRY!

Anyhow: Roux's ankle still looked heavily strapped - rather not rush him back if can be avoided. Aly and Marshall in second row seem decent partnership. Looks like George gonna be needed at 8 with Masterson and McKeon out so we could well see Romaine make debut off the bench to cover second row?

James Connolly 7 and George 8 with Sean O'Brien on bench?

Seems like just when we're getting back to full strength the injuries start rolling in again....

Right lads here we go. Hopefully this will steer conversation into a realistic vein rather than overly pessimistic/optimistic.

Worst case scenario as I see it - we are finish just outside the top 4.
Any win against Ospreys or Edinburgh virtually guarantees top 6 and a great shot at top 4.

I am REALLY looking forward to the next few weeks.

    8 Glasgow 35 4 4 4 5 4 5 4 1 5 69

I have gone for the slightly pessimistic side of my actual opinion. For example I think we will win one of the Edinburgh or Ospreys but picked the worst way around.
