Passed the old Sam Mccauleys the other day and see that one of those o carrols tat gift shops is opening. Will be a great addition to the high street and to the locals who will be in there every day..... Kilkenny really does have double standards cheap tat in disguise of tourist traps over a Tesco which would actually benefit the locals and local economy.

I can imagine the day Tesco finally opens in Kilkenny. A load of boardsies standing outside looking at the wondrous sight, exchanging smiles and nods of approval. Then they walk in, arms linked, and slowly the smiles disappear from their faces as they come to the awful realisation that it's just another big shop with pretty much the same stuff as other big shops. Oh well.

If they don't benefit themselves then they're hardly going to benefit anyone else.

They're busiest time is summer and in winter they can reduce cost by have fewer staff; hotels, pubs and restaurants do the same thing.

Besides there's already a tack tourist shop doing business all round on Rose Inn street so there's obviously a market for it.

They'll sell blow up mickeys, sheep and diddies for the hen/stag parti in winter.
