Looking forward to it. Should be good game and glad it is out of Croker. Unfortunately not in Parnell!

Jury is still out on the Dublin puck out strategy. Can see it all going horribly badly on some day, but hopefully not against the stripey lads!

    See you all then!

Thought Wexford were poor, especially in defence. Always wanted an extra second on the ball every time they had it.

Conditions were very poor though but Dublin coped far better.

Got to the Village/Boro match this evening. Evenly matched for the first half with just the bare minimum separating the teams at half time. Village looked slightly stronger especially in the forwards with their half forward line of Larkin, Mullins & Browne causing havoc running at the Boro defence. But for the goal, the Village would have been deservedly ahead. Different story in the second half. Boro were by far the better team and but for some wastefulness in front of goal would have won by far more. Larkin along with the rest of his forward colleagues were anonymous. Ruth put over from about 6 yards out when it looked easier to goal. Bar that chance the village never really troubled the Boro defence in any meaningful way.
Buckley was back in familiar territory at CB and was motm. Larks had a good first half. Jackie played the whole game and played it well though he did get caught in possession a few times trying to run the ball out of defence. Cody was solid without being spectacular.

Did luke scanlon play or what's the nature of his injury?just in relation to the u21 wednesday night id expect something along the lines brennan in the goal, ciaran wallace, evan coady, conor delaney, jason cleere, paddy deegan, huw lawlor, mullins, scanlon if his fit or leahy, liam blanchfield, sean morrissey, john walsh and billy ryan alan murphy should be five of the six fowards.James maher is back running so hopefully he'll be back in a few weeks should we progress

We won that day by 14 points and were 6 up at half time so you're tearing your hole here.

Can't believe we lost to Johnstown last night. Johnstown and Ballyragget always a complete recipe for disaster.

They have gone really bad. Not even a bit of badness in them last night.

I'd imagine Cunningham has had his eye on the next game since the draw was made so it should be a good match. I think we missed whatever chance we ever had in 2013, but it is decent enough side so fingers crossed!

Ballyhale had a comfortable 8 point victory over Danesfort who seem destined for the relegation play-offs. Paul Murphy was best for Danesfort who hit 17 wides. Richie Hogan had a quiet game and came off after 45 minutes, presumably running out of steam but his form and fitness are definitely a concern. Michael Fennelly had a comfortable outing at centre back but came off after 50 minutes, didn't see anything up with him. Colin Fennelly helped himself to around 5 points and is in superb condition. Danesfort are many people's favourites for relegation but will provide a battle for anyone if Richie Hogan is fit and their shooting is more accurate. Shamrocks will be there or thereabouts as always for the Championship.
The Bridge had their first win at senior level in over 30 years after a 7 point win over the Rower. The Rower were missing Darragh Joyce and Richie Leahy whilst Jason Cleere played corner forward for the Bridge as he didn't seem fully fit. The Rower hit a good few wides and had a penalty saved whilst the Bridge missed two good goal opportunities. Robert Lennon played well for the winners, Eoin Doyle was good for the Rower. With only two points separating the six sides, this group is extremely tight with no team safe from the relegation play-offs

Richie hasn't seemed right all year for some reason. Hopefully he can push on now and get get back to him best over next few weeks.

I though James was out for the season?

He was in the paper's during the week saying he hopes to see action this year and his back running I've heard it's not as bad as initially feared.

Thanks for that. That's good news. Hopefully see him later in the year!

Again, another team who continue to play a sweeper when 7 or 8pts down. I don't get it.

    Some reporter should ask why?

Mulcahy said it on the commentary. "Cork nine points down, and still playing sweeper".

    It is indeed strange.

As much as I love hurling, it's going to **** with this sweeper system. Even last years hurling championship was crap. The way we played last year was crap. The lack of goals is killing the game. Where's the excitement?

Richie Hogan came off injured and went to hospital after for x-ray on possible brokem thumb.Mick Fennelly also came off due to injury and it was the hamstring again. It didnt look too bad for him hopefully just a minor strain. Danesfort went in only a point behind at half time but had a huge amount of wides that cost them hugely afters. Murphy was very good as were all the defensive unit for Danesfort but the inability to take the scores upfront cost them. Joey Holden was ok and he was on Tom Whitty at start who is a very tall rangy forward simeilar to wally and was causing Joey some problems

He got a belt on his hand, which looked accidental, in the first half and got attention for it. He got further attention a couple of minutes later as it was obviously hurting . He played for a while in the second half but was not taking frees. Richie has had his share of injuries in the last nine months

****. Sake. Has the feel of one of THOSE years.

Unlucky with injuries already this year and the panel is wearing thin.

If true, it depends how severe it is and the timeframe to get back to action again.

    It's all that Richie needs!!!!

****. Sake. Has the feel of one of THOSE years.

It certainly has the feeling of one of those years but as brian always preaches its all about the panel.richie should probaly make it back for the leinster final should we progress at the moment shane pender is out with hanstring, michael fennelley is probaly 50/50 and hogan is definitely out on the plus side paul murphy, larkin fogarty and colin have all recovered which will certainly strenghten things up.

Anybody know much about the U-21 Westmeath team? They lost last year in the quarter-final to Offaly. In 2014 they beat Carlow and then lost narrowly to Dublin in the semi-final. Are any of the U-21s on Michael Ryan's senior team?

The Leinster U-21 draw turned out very lopsided this year. Wexford, KK, and Dublin all on one side.

I just spotted this on the Kilkenny GAA website.
Congrats to Castlecomer Community School on their AI win.
Castlecomer Community School won their first ever All Ireland Hurling Community & Comprehensive Final when defeating Blackwater by a single point in a nail biting game in Walsh Park Waterford.

Castlecomer CS took control of the game from the start and maintained their lead up to the 59th minute when Blackwater leveled the game. In the last few seconds of normal time James Bergin played a Captains role when he scored the winning point to see Castlecomer CS claim their first ever All Ireland Hurling Community title.

The Cup was presented to Captain James Bergin by the Waterford Senior Hurling manger Derek McGrath.

On their way to the final Castlecomer CS defeated Portuma on a scoreline of 3.20 to 1.11 in the quarter final. In the semi final Castlecomer defeated st. Camans by 3.16 to 0.5.

They are showing Dublin v Wexford, but that is on June 1st, not tonight.

I presume they will also show the semi-final involving KK/Westmeath v Dublin/Wexford along with the final.

Richie confirmed out for 6 weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,473 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

    From here:
The extent of the damage will be assessed by a specialist in Dublin on Friday and if surgery is required it could put him out of action for more than the six weeks required to heal the break.

Big Blow losing Richie Hogan, getting a bit tight in the forwards. Wondering would we get away with starting TJ close to goal to provide more of a goal threat or is this taking to much from the half forward line. Possibly something like

    Walter C Fennelly Larkin
JJ Farrell TJ Reid Chris Bolger

I think it probably is taking too much out. Probably going to need someone who can win lots of primary possession because with the sweepers so many teams are playing any loose ball is likely to be hard to come by. Would keep C Fen in FF and hope he is on the very best of form, in which case he is still a decent goal threat. But no matter what way you shuffle those cards it's a relatively weak hand. It's going to be a nervous year I think...

Yeah we're kind of getting a bit tight on the ground with forwards alright.

Think if I'd go with Blanchfield instead of JJ but in fairness to JJ he did play well against Clare in the league semi. Hopefully John Walsh might be brought into the senior panel now as well.

Given the injuries in the senior panel now it gives a great chance for some of the U-21 players to put there hand up and get a chance with the seniors over the next few weeks!!

Getting lighter and lighter upfront alright.

Colin has good pace and could slot in anywhere in the forwards. Bolger would offer a goal threat if given the chance i think.

Will he get that chance though?

That's a very strong ff line in the sense that they're very direct and off a goal threat. TJ alternates between half forward and full forwards anyway.

The bigger question is re: the forwards who can come on and make a decent impact to the point of turning a game?

To be fair I think if all other teams were offered Colin Fennelly they would bit your hand off for him. I agree he is a very good option in at full forward, I think thats been the plan B over the last few years, he is very good at winning low ball and ranges into space from one side to the other, if he can improve is finishing he will be a serious threat to any team.
