Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Military college courses

    Hello all,
I am currently completing my leaving cert and I'm very interested in a career in the defence forces (infantry or cavalry preferably). It's been all I've wanted to do for quite some time. I know that there is fierce competition for places in the PDF whenever they are running competitions and I'm just wondering what college courses would benefit me upon application. I have applied for the RDF but my thinking is that this combined with a useless college course would not suffice. Any course recommendations welcome. Thanks in advance

Are you going to apply for general service or the Cadets? I'm not sure the type of degree will make much of a difference. Its more about your personal qualities and experience.

I have a degree and I passed my interview for the PDF general service. They told me that a degree would be of no benefit in general service. They seem to be more keen on taking young unskilled people because if someone has a degree they are unlikely to stay. If you look at the thread "enlisting with a degree" you will find a array of opinions on this; http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057498626
