Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'll also be voting to repeal the amendment in the constitution that gives government the right to say whether a pregnancy should be carried to full term despite a the fact that the child will have no quality of life or survive at all . It's ridiculous and outdated.

If guns weren,t so easily available in the United states incidents such as whats happened could be better avoided, there are videos I have watched on youtube of the hardcore anti abortion protesters confronting women going into family planning clinics in the Uk, that said we don,t see or hear about similar anti abortion violence/ shootings of people in the UK or other parts of Europe as guns aren,t so easily available compared with the USA.

I suppose the difference is that nowhere in the bible/gospels is abortion condemned as a capital offense or even mentioned where as the Quran/hadith contain no shortage of justifications for murder and conquest.

Both traditions are utter nonsense of course.

Ha, you got me. Damn, good shot. Time to go kill myself now is it,

Hmm, a cheap shot from someone who wandered into an active shooter situation with a pro life leaflet in hand.

Oh, I was being sarcastic about the early rising, don't flatter yourself.

edit. deleted line. sorry OTT even for me. My apologies.

Three people dead, including one of the police officers. Rather remarkably, the shooter was taken alive. Everyone's officially doing "too early to say" as for motive, but unless he had a personal vendetta against someone, I don't think there's any real doubt as to it being a pro-life activist with a screw loose.

Without assuming anything, it should be noted that Colorado Springs has a high number of Evangelical churches, so many that's it's been called the Evangelical Vatican in the past. I was there in 2007; hopped off the Greyhound and jumped in a cab, and asked the driver about the city's reputation. He nearly drove off the road, that's how annoyed he got about how religious the place was.

Death has this much to be said for it:
You don’t have to get out of bed for it.
    Wherever you happen to be
    They bring it to you—free.

Why? Christians are not generally known these days for their zeal for murder of innocent people,

One of the seminal events that led to the American Civil War was the raid at Harper's Ferry in 1859.
John Brown who led the raid was a fanatical abolitionist.
For the pro-life movement the ideological battle over abortion is compared to the ideological battle over slavery and fanatics who attack abortion clinics and kill doctors are compared to John Brown.
The campaign to abolish slavery was primarily religious in nature although supporters of slavery also cited religion in support of their position.
The violent fringe of the pro-life movement are also usually end times Christian fanatics who quote Revelation comparing the abortion industry to the famous vision of the woman crying out in child birth and the dragon waiting to eat the baby as soon as it is born. They also take inspiration from Claus Von Stauffenberg, a devout Christian, who was prepared to kill Hitler and die for his beliefs. In their reasoning killing an abortion doctor is no different than killing Nazis because they draw a direct parallel between the Holocaust and the "murder" of millions of unborn fetuses.
Fanatics double down on their ideology when faced with insurmountable odds and insurmountable odds leave only the most committed and the most fanatical left in opposition.

Hard line anti-abortion campaigners would compare abortion to ISIS.

You completely underestimate the mindset of hardliners.

You fail to understand that when people actually believe abortion is the murder of an innocent baby in the womb, they not only oppose those who are pro-choice, they see them as murderers and killers and when abortion is state sanctioned that means the legal and political authorities are no longer worthy of obedience. It doesn't take too much of a leap from that position to start planning armed resistance.

Yeah, I am in no way condoning this but if you believe that a fetus at any stage is equal in worth to an adult life, gunning down an abortion clinic suddenly seems more logical, clinic carries out 1000's of procedures a year you consider each of those a murder suddenly killing 10 people to stop it doesn't seem like such a illogical idea.
In relation to why its nearly always fundamentalist protestant Christians involved in this (AFAIK can't think of a Catholic or Orthodox carrying out one of these attacks ) my guess its because they place a much higher emphasis on the Old Testament which has a lot more smiting and less turning the other cheek than that hippy Jesus was preaching.

I understand fully as I would think along similar lines but not exactly.
I believe abortion to be wrong , I accept there are exceptions to my rule in difficult circumstance. BUt yes I consider it murder unless there was a medical reason for the abortion.

I've never judged a women who had an abortion (I've known a few) but since you raised the point I would consider an abortionist a murderer. You may point out a hypocrisy in those two opinions but I can live with that. However I won't be shooting up clinics and killing doctors/workers ( I would not be in favour of this action at all ) but I don't expect me to be polite should I ever meet one

Now get back behind your keyboard with your box of tissues as you masturbate furiously to explosions and gun battles.

There are heading for 300,000,000 guns over there.

How do you suggest they control who has access to them. You can try, but you won't succeed fully.

I read that 190,000 guns were bought on Black Friday alone. That's about the equivalent of all the licenced guns in Ireland.

    Hard to change that culture.

Three dead, shooter was a white Christian so he'd definitely not be called a terrorist, and he shouted "NO MORE BABY PARTS!" during the attack.

  • Registered Users Posts: 669 ✭✭✭josephryan1989

One of the victims of the shooting was a black Texan war veteran who served in the 4th Infantry Division in the Iraq War named Ke’Arre Stewart who was described by a friend as a sincere guy who would take a bullet for you.
The cop who died Garrett Swasey was also a co-pastor and a champion figure skater before he became a policeman. He was good friend in his youth of the Olympic champion skater Nancy Kerrigan.
Both men were fathers and family men.
The third victim was Jennifer Markovsky, from Hawaii, who was the wife of a soldier based in Colorado.

Shooter's wife says he "believed wholeheartedly" in the Bible, and liked telling people how he had read it from cover-to-cover: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/29/us/ex-wife-recalls-colorado-gunman-as-imperfect-but-a-good-man.html

Let's keep track of how often the media outlets refer to this as 'extremist Christian terrorism' moving forward........
