Badly need advice for gaming pc build

    Hi
    Teenage son looking for gaming pc for Christmas. Literally have no experience of this but want to get the lad a decent pc without paying over the odds pre built shop prices.

    I came up with the following configuration using hardwareversand, any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming (Games such as Black Ops, Battlefront and recent releases)

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows?) Yes

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer?) No

    5. Do you need a monitor?) No planning on using TV.

    5a. If yes, what size do you need?) ----

    5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future?) .

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals?) Yes need mouse, keyboard and speakers

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking?) Yes

    8. How can you pay?) Laser/ credit card, paypal.

    9. When are you purchasing?) Asap

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based?) Dublin but think a neighbour will help

    You can drop to an i5-4440 and H97 board to save a packet, also don't need a 3rd party cooler, the stock intel one is fine.

    Use the savings to get a GTX970 or R9 390 instead of a GTX 960 (personally I'd take the 390).

    This will show a massive increase in gaming performance compared to what you have chosen now for the same money.

    8GB of ram is plenty for gaming for new and the near future, just get a single 8GB stick for now.

    A 730W power supply is totally overkill, with the GTX960 a 350W would be plenty, with the GTX970 a 350-400W would be fine and with the R9 390 a 500w would be fine.

    Good changes. Took it from a good high graphics pc to an ultra for less.

    You'd be lucky to pay about 1400- 1500 for it in a shop. That's a moderate guess.
