Wind dropped and rain stopped for about an hour in Donegal, but rain back on without the wind.

In the UK, tweet from Environment Agency director :
    @johncurtinEA

Provisional figures from a rain gauge in Honister shows 352mm of rain fell in 24hrs. If verified this would be a new UK record #StormDesmond

Looking at the Bandon webcam the water level seems to have noticeably risen further!

In the UK, tweet from Environment Agency director :

Well if it is confirmed... that record didn't stand for long.... I find it funny and interesting how I escaped the very heavy rainfall of November 19, 2009 and I was on holidays in Paris.

I don't know if it's been mentioned here yet, but apparently the army is being deployed to assist with the situation in Bandon and Kerry, at least according to Minister Coveney's Facebook Page:

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

My stations record (in Galway City) for daily rainfall has been broken
Total since midnight now stands at 63.0mm, previous record was 62.0mm in Nov 2009

From what I saw today is not only Galway but also the Shannon catchment area sucked and a flood wave on the way down. Not sure if the people of Portumna will be happy that Meelick has been dredged. Hope I'm wrong.

3.37m. Seems to be leveling off now at Bandon Bridge.

Met Eireann short range model is showing even more intense rain for 2am now. Will it be right? Rarely see grey colours.

Just checked the manual gauge, 56.4mm so far for event here in Ardfert . Was thinking we are getting off light as the mountains are probably soaking up most of the rainfall before it gets to us here a bit further North.

    Still raining.

Going by ME current rainfall radar this doesn't seem to be happening. Is the current rainfall radar a bit iffy?

It's the forecast rain for 02.00 from the short range model.

Rain has eased here and seems to be little more on the way, yet temp is still on 12.1c with continued squally gusts from a SW direction, which suggests that the main cold front has not gone through yet. Pressure is also falling a little after a temporary rise earlier.

Keswick in Cumbria had these glass flood walls built above the regular walls by the river. But tonight they weren't enough. Truly exceptional event.

Stopped raining around 4 here in my part of meath, and thankfully didnt get the rain i was expecting from this storm, so escaped the flooding i was expecting to, seen some unbelievable pics from over in england and here in the west, its hateful watching water rise while thinking will it come into the house or not, so to anybody whose effected by flooding, you have my sympathies
