    Hi,

I'm looking for some advice on the installation of a new wireless alarm system in typical 3 bed semi.

What is considered best practice between use of PIRs vs. perimeter etc. From initial research, it appears PIR are becoming a main source of protection? This raises the question of alarm only being triggered once an intruder has entered the house? Would welcome views on this.

What would be recommended advice on giving the optimum combination across downstairs/upstairs windows doors etc?

    Thanks in advance.

PiR protection is not the norm.
Some companies use this as a sales technique. It's a cheap basic system that offers very little protection. For most installers the norm is sensors and contacts on all ground floor and accessible points of entry with a couple of PIRs backing that up.
An alarm is supposed to be a deterrent. What's the use of one that activates after a burglar has broken in. At that stage the damage is done and he's not leaving empty handed.
