Jason Byrne, seems to think that shouting makes the average sentence hilarious.

Mario Rosenstock is someone I find poor. Was decent on radio years ago but now his TV show on RTE is awful.

Poorly scripted with limited impressions and he just looks arrogant to me. Comes across as thinking that he is hilariously funny and talented.

    Panti Bliss.

    Not one bit funny.

    She's not a comedian- she's a drag act.

Who tells jokes between songs, hence a comedic act.

Stewart Lee - Prefer his written material to his stand up routines, just doesnt seem to transfer over on the live circuit....

Darra O Briain - Oh good ****, cannot stand the man and his humour. Saw a dvd of his , live at the apollo and the jokes especially the ones talking about the "orish" and "how we're a great little country....", borders on gombeen , picture postcard pukeness, a muppet of the highest order!!!

By that metric The Rat Pack were comedians. They weren't though.

This is a safe space, don't be scared. Say his name. I'll say it with you.

    3..2..1..

    Russell Howard.

NO no NO please NOooooooooooooo He has to be one of the worst people who stand up and think they are funny. Notice that I did not mention the word comedian in my first sentence.:D

    Bill Hicks. /thread
So you and the 2 people who liked your post would agree that Roy Chubby Brown is a better comedian than Bill Hicks?

I am not a big fan of Hicks, but mother of god if you honestly think he is the worst comedian you have either not watched many or have a strange sense of humour.

he had a slot at the vodafone comedy festival in the Iveagh gardens over the summer

Panti is a drag queen, not a transgender female.

I used to be such a huge Hicks fan but his stuff has not aged well at all.

Hi there... I mean eh... I'm not Al... feck I'm caught.

Seriously though, I wonder if he, or any other of the Irish comics mentioned have been on here. I'm glad there's not a "Worst IT guy" thread, seems people really like to hate. I'd be a shell of a techy reading personal reviews of my work/personality.

Well yes but people who self publicise are rarely shy or self conscious.

Met Brendan in a pub in Galway once. A lovely woman, very down to earth so she is.

    Michael McIntyre and Jack Whitehall.
Both got their careers to nepotism.
McIntyre's dad was Kenny Everett's director/creative collaborator, Whitehall's dad a showbiz agent for the likes of Geoffrey "Catweazle" Bayldon.

I've been in Ireland for 16 years and have only been to live comedy once: it was so bad that I've never been tempted since. The headline act ... I'm not going to name names, on the off chance she's on here. I can only describe her as an Irish knockoff of Jo Brand, without the good taste or the jokes.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Maeve Higgins is the only person who laughs at Maeve Higgins jokes.
However if you turn down the volume you might laugh as she is very funny looking.
Inflicting Maeve Higgins on the world gives us all another reason to hate ray darcy

Whitehall is now very unfunny on Royal Variety Performance UTV along with another unfunny one ROMESH RANGANATHAN he fills in with Jack Dee in the now disappointing The Apprentice Your Fired. This show has gone to hell since Daragh left

I never understood why Sam Kinison was so popular. I like blue 'edgy' comedy while it's done well, however when it's just loudmouth vulgarity with no punchline it's brutal stuff to listen to. Andrew Dice Clay also falls into this category, all shock and no wit.

Brendan O Carroll is as funny as ten kicks in the stones off a donkey

Watched that show for one episode. Dreadful stuff.

In fact, that curly headed goon is so insufferably unfunny every time I've seen him that it causes me physical pain and lost sleep.

Any comedian that has to resort to talking about Marty Morrissey is not funny.

Amy Schumer seems to have that sexy next door girl persona about her but shes not funny.

I second (or third or forth ) Tommy Tiernan. He is funny as in the alternative interpretation of the word.

I don't know why stand up generates so much hate. Any other art form people just go, yeah, not my type of book/painting/song.

Pretty much everyone mentioned is successful so must have loads of people who find them funny. As a comedian all you can do is come up with some jokes and see what people laugh at. If someone's not funny, blame their audiences at their new material try-outs.

Ok, I know it undermines everything I've said but I have to admit, I can't stand her.

But this is the worst. She's a real comedian with a website and everything, this isn't an open mic.

I had to look up Chubby Roy Brown to see what's so bad about him. If he were 50 years younger he'd be the sort who sends rape threats to feminists, anti-racism activists and LGBT advocates.

Just looked him up myself. I am asylum seeker. I bet the type that pay to see him had it as their ringtone for weeks.

There's an awful whiff of misogyny off that kind of comment.

I can think of several female comedians who I think are really good (Katherine Ryan, Bridget Christie, Susan Calman, Aisling Bea, Maeve Higgins, Josie Long and Diane Morgan, to name a few). There are certainly fewer female comedians (especially on TV), but there are plenty of good ones on the live circuit (and on Radio 4).

May I ask, which two or three male comedians make you laugh the most?

    Top of my head:
    David O'Doherty
    Andrew Maxwell

Not a fan of the shouty comic (Lee Evans, Russell Howard) either.

None. They're all crap. Men generally aren't funny...

Billy Connolly, when he was at his peak. Dylan Moran. Stewart Lee.

Saw Maxwell a few years back. Was absolutely smashed and he kept repeating the last word of his jokes for about five minutes to get those nervous awkward laughs.
