Liverpool come into this seeking a third league win in a row to push to within six points of league leaders Leicester. Newcastle lie in 19th place two points from safety. The Pool are in goal scoring form after netting six during the week while the Geordies have failed to score in their last two home game.

Liverpool will be without the injured Philippe Coutinho and suspended Emre Can but can call upon the recently returned Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson. Newcastle will be without Mike Williamson, Cheik Tiote and Gabriel Obertan

Of games to have been played at least 34 times in Premier League history, this fixture has the highest goals per game average (3.14 - 132 goals in 42 games) and no side have scored more Premier League goals against Newcastle than Liverpool (86).

    Betting: Newcastle 9/2, Draw 10/3, Liverpool 4/7

Can't see anything other than a 'Pool win, probably easily.

    0-2 or 1-3.

Newcastle to have that 1 in 10 game where they are actually a good team and win easy.

Liverpool haven't done too well recently when they've been 'favorites' on paper for a game, hopefully the Kloppster has them in a different mindset.

Hard to see Newcastle getting anything here, LFC playing well and with confidence, Newcastle being Newcastle.

    Easy away win.

With Sturridge & Benteke available there's two ways to skin the cat of Newcastle, barring multiple defensive/keeper fnuck ups a Liverpool win both likely and expected.

Any win will do thank you

This is the type of game in the past (against a struggling opponent) where Liverpool have got the wind removed from their sails, but hopefully that won't be the case today.

Liverpool should win easily on paper, but we have a tendency to throw away the game against lower teams sometimes. Hopefully that won't be the case and we hammer them. It will either be a 4-0 win for pool or 2-1 Newcastle

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,987 ✭✭✭Kerrigooney

Yeah these games we'd be expecting to win have been a bit of a land mine so I'd take a scrappy 0-1 happily.

2-0 Newcastle. Bumps in the road and this will be one.

0-1 and I'd be delighted with that.

I would agree if Brendan was still there but the last few games under Klopp when we went behind, we came back fighting. Newcastle have been awful lately and considering our defensive frailty, Newcastle will get a goal but it is hard to see anything but a Liverpool win.

The league table is a lie - to satisfy the reverse mocker gods it's only fair to note how evenly matched the two teams are and as the league results show, Newcastle are actually the better of the two:

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle
    Man Utd 3-1 Liverpool

    Newcastle 0-1 Arsenal
    Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool (*)
    * Arsenal had a legitimate goal disallowed

    West Ham 2-0 Newcastle
    Liverpool 0-3 West Ham

    Crystal Palace 5-1 Newcastle
    Liverpool 1-2 Crystal Palace

    Newcastle 0-0 Stoke
    Stoke 0-1 Liverpool (*)
    * Mark Hughes said that Liverpool did not deserve the win, a draw would have been the fair result.

    Newcastle 2-2 Southampton
    Liverpool 1-1 Southampton

    Newcastle 2-2 Chelsea
    Chelsea 1-3 Liverpool (*)
    * Lucas should have been sent off, Chelsea deserved a draw or the result reversed.

    Newcastle 6-2 Norwich
    Liverpool 1-1 Norwich

    Bournemouth 0-1 Newcastle
    Liverpool 1-0 Bournemouth (*)
    * Coutinho was offside, Bournemouth were robbed of a legitimate goal.

On the basis of the respective results against Norwich and Man Utd it's clear that Newcastle is the better team. Liverpool's fake results against Arsenal, Bournemouth, Chelsea and Stoke show the league table to be a lie.

Today is an opportunity for the footballing gods to put things right.

    Prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Liverpool

nailing my colours to the mast here so did this a few days back - good chance it wont come off but sod it, it's only a couple of euro
    Win
    Single: Liverpool 7 - 0 @ 500/1
1 line at €2.00 per line
Total stake for this bet: €2.00
    Potential returns: €1,002.00

odds now down to 100/1 so might be good value

    You're being overly simplistic ...

Liverpool's true position is around 14/15, given the relatively easy start to the season they had the team find themselves in the heady heights of chasing the top 4.

Starting today they have a tough run of fixtures and the natural order will be restored. ;)

That would certainly have assured a Chelsea victory.

Was it five years ago today that Newcastle sacked Hughton?

Could well be McClaren's last day if they lose.

Easy Liverpool win. Hired a motivational speaker to try and get players up for the game FFS.

    90 minutes of torture ahead.

    Over 8.5 goals I get €1600

If we're gonna keep supporting these eejits may as well make a pound out of it.

Watching Liverpool corners being defended by Newcastle is pretty much when the stoppable force meets the movable object.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

Can't clear 3 corners.. Bloody hell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

Skrtel just dragged the ball forward with his studs, then poked a pass through two players. What is going on.

Christ, the Geordies are like rabbits in the headlights here. It's got the appearance of a long afternoon for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,397 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

    Clyne's train of thought.

    Plenty of time...plenty of time...plenty of...balls.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

I'm pretty sure, that since football was invented in 1992, Lucas has won every header from every long ball, ever.

Those early corners aside, I think we've done ok so far.

This definitely feels like a game where Lovren will do someting Lovreny, like 14 step overs and back heel that plays Cisse clean through.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,397 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

Roberto Carlos would have scored that.

I've been quite impressed with Joe Allen's resurgence under Klopp. Looks a very exciting player now.
