Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    If Leicester goalkeeper had allowed jamie Vardy to put the ball into his own net in the final minute of the game today would the own goal have extended Vardy's record even further?

    Is that the fake record or the real one? Johnny Giles seems to have a bee in his bonnet about it....and rightly so I guess if it's not referred to as a premier league era only record :D

    He needed to score today to equal the top flight record in England set by an Irishman in the 1930s named Jimmy Dunne.

    Tbh noone knew of Jimmy Dunne until this came up.

    I think its more a case that people don't see any startling difference between the 1991/92 season and the 1992/93 season such that the latter needs to serve as a cutoff point for records. Like the format was fcuking identical.

    And I'm fairly sure it wasn't even called the Premier League in its first few seasons ('Premiership' anyone?).

    Tradition and history is an integral part of football, that's why records don't normally have these cut off points when league names etc. change.

    But things like name changes and structure changes can be used to define eras in a sport.

    The profile of the top flight in England has risen dramatically since the change in 1992, its not unreasonable to use that as a starting point for an era.

    I also think that if the player in question was not the type of character many say he is, or if he was playing for a more high profile club then tjete would be a lot less hostility towards the discussion about this achievement.

    He has broken the record for scoring in consecutive league games in the premier league era.

    That's a record for the premier league era. So he really has broken a record.

    Vardy = One hit wonder. I wonder how many so called big clubs will be willing to spend 20 - 30 million on him.......football really has gone stupid.

    Bony at Man City is proof that football has gone mad.......silly money for an average striker. I read Gary Neville supposedly said Vardy should try La Liga.....I didnt know Neville did stand up. Vardy has done well this season but people really need to stop making out as if he is a new Ronaldo (the fat one)
