Anyone ever hear of it before ? I just stumbled on it today, fascinating stuff !

    http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/

    So what is it ?

It essentially allows you to tun into an actual radio receiver in another country and actually "tune it"

In the above link the receiver is located in the Netherlands on top of the Universiteit Twente. Tune it to 250 Khz and you can clearly hear Radio One on Long Wave ! (at night)

You will be able to hear amateur radio operators also on different bands at various times of the day.

This site will allow you to hear different recievers in different countries .

    http://websdr.org/

I think this is pretty cool stuff !

P.S if you happen to hear voices that sound all distorted or somewhat robotic then switch to USB or LSB and these will be amateur radio operators.

An amateur radio / Radio section here on Boards would be nice.

    Hi,

Yes these are great, I have been using them along with https://pskreporter.info/pskmap.html to check how far my antenna can push digital signals.

Another one to try via android is GLSDR , its great and you have a choice of servers to tap into.
Looks great on a droid tv box. But works on any phone.

I think it's really fascinating, and you can find Irish ham operators and try the receiver in the Netherlands to see if they can be heard there or try one in the U.K.

I could plainly hear RTE Radio one on 252 Khz in the Netherlands ! Amazing ! Use a mouse and it's so much easier.

This one here in the U.K is an old Nuclear bunker and now a museum and I love the ability to monitor all ham bands at once and easily switch between them.

it seems there has been a recent explosion of ham radio licences in the last few years so glad to hear the hobby is still going strong.

It's cool to hear the U.S operators on 160 meters come in in the early hours after Midnight, it's really cool to hear all the stations on night shift that I wouldn't otherwise hear, conditions were good last night, or I should say early this morning around 3 am between Europe and North America.

I can't believe I never discovered this years ago !

I love my little Tecsun PL-660 but with it's little antenna and in a housing estate it has it's limitations, but it's good for a portable receiver.

That's cool, how does this work ? do people have to update manually from their log books with contacts they make ?

Love those little SDR radios, have one I picked on ebay for 20 euro, has HF+VHF UHF plus an amp too.

The online ones are wonderful for a backup receive when I can't hear a contact on HF. Funny that sometimes you hear Irish stations better from one of those SDR sets in the UK than my own receiver.

All those servers are showing as offline for me on that app, bug or just a bad time to be tuning in?

I think it's amazing how it works, how 100 + people can tune the one receiver at the same time.

Do you need something additional to allow you to stream on the internet ?

Its integrated into Ham Radio Deluxe (dm780), if it picks up someone calling CQ on digi modes, it uploads it to psk reporter.

You call CQ and after about 10 min or so you will appear on the map as your signal is picked up by other stations. Great for seeing how far you can reach with your 5 watts and home brew antenna.

Working fine here, select server in top right tab and off you go.
Takes a while to get used to but its great fun.

That utwente one has been around for years, but good to point it out for those who don't know it. There's many around the world now, it's amazing technology!

If you're interested in the technology, check out the blog from the guy that built the Twente one here. He doesn't update it a lot but I love reading it. He's built all the hardware himself, starting in 2005 when SDR was uncommon ground. With the current version he's capturing the entire 30Mhz HF spectrum at the same time using a single ADC chip, he just filters out the HAM bands using an FPGA because otherwise the resulting data stream would be too wide for gigabit ethernet. I have great respect for his work.

I wish this stuff would be available to buy at this stage.. The RTLSDRs are nice but 2Mhz bandwidth is not the same, and the 8-bit resolution is nothing to write home about. At least they're dirt cheap.

Yeah the technology is amazing. Being able to tune a receiver on the internet in god knows where is fascinating and brilliant when in work when I get a bit of time.

I was listening to a New Jersey WebSdr in the early Am on night shift this morning and some of these Ham operators should be locked up, I never heard the likes of it before ! I recorded some of it , I will see if I can link to it from Google drive or drop box or the likes.
