We need to submit a planning application for a new driveway access. An architect we're in contact with has costed this at €1,000 plus VAT. Anyone any experience of this? Is this reasonable?

If you are in Dublin, that's probably not far off the mark!

Does that price include cost of newspaper notice, ordnance survey map, planning fees, etc.?

If you are not happy with price, then get 2 more quotes.

    Where are you based?

Is it for a new driveway or retention to keep an existing driveway?

App fee to LA is €34/€102
    Newspaper notice €180
    OSi Maps €79
Time spent surveying and prepping drawings and forms to apply.
Prints (6 copies of everything for the LA)
    Site notice erection and lamination.

Thanks, don't think the quote includes newspaper notice, will confirm other costs mentioned above, thanks, we're both v new to this!

You could probably get a lower price from an architectural technician, using an architect seems like overkill.

Why would an arch techs rate be any cheaper?

It should be one fifth cheaper, as they do one less year in college....

    * sticks tongue in cheek *

Oops, meant a draughtsman. I had to apply for retention for an extension and a gateway. For the extension an architect suggested I use a draughtsman. He did the drawings, submitted the application, etc, and we got the PP. I used the same guy for the gate.
