    Hi guys,

Any recommendations for a nice, causal place for lunch in the city? Anywhere that does a decent burger at a reasonable price would do the job.

Someone IRL recommended Paris Texas but the comments a few posts up are putting me off a little.

    Thanks.

Fish Face (is still open. I checked) is the place I would recommend .

I've never had a problem with Paris Texas & eat there regularly
The Hungry Moose won best burger in Ireland roughly €14 a burger with fries but its a decent size burger

My burger was OK, it was small. I've eaten there twice. My first experience was an ordeal, the service was shocking slow on a quiet night, the second time the service was OK and the food was OK, far from the best burger in Kilkenny, never mind Ireland though.

My favourite casual dinning spot in Kilkenny is aroi but you won't get a burger there.

For a burger I'd recommend Rafter Dempsey's. They did up their menu / seem to have got a new chef and the foods much nicer now. They won an award recently as well: https://www.kilkennypeople.ie/news/business/328468/best-gastro-pub-star-for-kilkenny-s-the-rafter-dempseys.html

After those two Ktylers would be the next best for me.

I haven't tried The Hungry Moose yet but its on my to try list.

    Texas chilli
    House smoked beef
    Mexicalli burger
    Pulled pork sandwich
    Texas chilli nachos
& they were all good, the missus has had a few other meals & shes had no problems either

Maybe you were unlucky, chef having a bad day or something. They seem to get regulars in there so if the food was consistently bad they would not be in business.
& no I do not work for or have anything to do with Paris Texas except eat & drink in there:D

Choosing to serve up a processed burger as opposed to making their own in-house has nothing to do with the chef having a bad day.

It points to a policy which places greater value on the speed and convenience of prep, than on the quality of the food sent out to the customer. That's fine by the way & Paris Texas are far from alone in running with that approach. Personally though, if I'm gonna spend that amount of money on a burger, I'm gonna avoid a place where the beef is reminiscent of St. Bernard quarter-pounders I was fed by the mammy circa 1986.

Also, food being consistently bad is no barrier to success in the restaurant trade. Most all TGI Friday's or Hard Rock Cafe's the world over serve food of a pretty low standard & continue to pack 'em in while doing so.

Like I say, that was only the thing I had in there and never went back. It was a horrible processed burger which it appears they still serve up. I won’t be going back as there’s so many other places to eat in Kilkenny it’s not worth the risk.

Had the short rib in butcher last night and I must say it was excellent. Got the mac and cheese which was nice, aswell as the mash potatoes which had shallots in them, an unwelcome surprise.

Other than that it was great, atmosphere was buzzing.

The burger I had in there wasn't processed & that was within the last year so its strange if you had a processed one.
All those chain restaurants, you know what your getting but it is harder for a stand alone to get away with it. Especially in a town where there is plenty of competition.
Have you only been in there once or tried other food?

The burger I had wasn't processed, so its strange that some people seem to have been served them but yeah if its burgers you want its better go to the Hungry Moose where they specialise in them

Where is the butcher? Is it a new restaurant in KK?

That's nice for you but mine was...like I'd said, it was circa 2 years ago post refurb that I had that awful burger and haven't been back. They might have changed since but that was more than enough for me.

It's the old Ripleys steak house spot.

When you're paying circa 15 euro no one wants that rubbish anymore. If that suits you then fine.

Just wondering does anyone know of the best places for a slimming world menu, or as health as possible anyway. I'd still like it to be good food but just need something for the more health conscious diner. Any ideas?

They have a post on their Facebook page about moving to "a beautiful restored 18th century Georgian House in Kilkenny." Don't know any more than that.

Had heard of it before alright so they had a good reputation even outside Waterford. Sounds like a great addition

In Kilkenny town today and looking for a place to get dinner around 6/7 o clock . Looking for your standard Irish fare, maybe an Early Bird menu in a pub type setting or something like that, any recommendations ?

Plenty of good options. Langtons, Matt the Millers, Paris Texas to name a few

Bennett's bridge thyme restraunt has four courses for 20 euro.

Best food I've ever eaten. Unreal value

    Lamb shank, steaks etc.

Haven't visited myself but heard from a couple that would go for dinner a lot that their steaks are the best they have had in Kilkenny.

Absolutely delicious burger in there, and nice staff. Beer selection was meh though. No stout. No red ale. 2 brands of pale ale for some reason, and about 4 big name lagers. It would actually put me off going back because I love a burger and a nice beer.
