Hi was just looking at the coverage map for 3G in tullyearl in Donegal. it shows my house in a "fair" area as opposed to a "good" area.

What does "fair" mean? will I be able to stream Netflix etc on it?

Are you referring to mobile only or did you get this from the map on https://www.eir.ie/eirfibreinfo/map/ ?
If it’s just for mobile, you’re more than welcome to use the coverage map on https://www.meteor.ie/ournetwork/ where you can type in “tullyearl donegal” On the right hand side of the page you will find the explanations of the coverage

    Thanks

    Hi

Yes the Meteor network uses the very same infrastructure an eir mobile network - from what i see on both maps the 3G is described as part Excellent and part Good. 3G is officially described as "Excellent for web browsing, social networking and Mobile Broadband as well as email and messaging. Great for sharing photos and navigating" - Unfortunately we can't offer you a more specific indication of what to expect.

    Thanks

    Hi Alan,

Think I miscommunicated my question. on the map the areas that have 3G are shaded in two different colours. The darker areas are said to have excellent 3G and the lighter areas are said to have good 3G. I was wondering if the areas that are just "good" would still be good enough to stream/browse etc?

They won't be able to give an answer on that my friend as 3G, in fact any mobile signal, varies greatly on local conditions.

Get a pay as you go sim and test out the signal in your area.

From my reading from the map is a bit like indoor/outdoor coverage. Your area looks like outdoors you will get a good signal with good speed, and indoor it may revert back to edge or maybe one or two bars of 3G.

look at some areas on the map. You will see a dark circle(ish) area surrounded by a lighter greater area. That is a mast. So the dark area is close to the mast, the lighter area is further etc. ( rough idea but hope that helps put a picture in your head )

overall hard to predict your speed but even in those lighter areas you should still get a few mbps second for streaming.

    Hope that helps.

    No worries shansey

Unfortunately I can't offer you a guarantee on anything but I can offer an indication nonetheless, "Good" in terms of 3G may not be the best for streaming but should be fine for browsing.

Have you considered trying a pay as you go sim to check for yourself before committing to a contract - bill pay plan?[font=Times New Roman","serif]
