    Here's something really in my favourite category...Don't know if the theory is valid, or another "bird-brained" fantasy...but the idea in itself is worth thinking about.

    Genetic studies also suggest bats appeared first in the Cretaceous (which shouldn´t be surprising considering no proto-bats from after the Cretaceous have been found- all bat fossils to my knowledge are fully fledged). Unfortunately both birds and bats have very fragile skeletons and chances are high we'll never find their respective ancestors.
