If the card won't show up at all, you'd be wasting your time downloading data recovery software. Have you tried another microSD adapter?

Not quite true. If it cant see the partition table it wont appear in "My Computer" but may still be recognized as storage media.

Use PhotoRec or TestDisk to scan it, if anything is there theyll find it.

my sd card showed up on my pc,
    as empty,
it says do you wish to format this,
    i formatted it 16gig .
quick format, Tick box quick format .
fat 32 . Fat 32 is the standard format for sdcards in phones or tablets .
then i used recuva free to recover 90 per cent of the files .
    https://www.piriform.com/recuva
get recuva free , click download.its easy to use.
16gig takes a few hours for a deep scan.

quick format leaves the old files there ,
but allows pc windows 7, 8, to see the files thru recuva.
recuva is very simple to use for a non tech expert

alot Easier than test disk ,
there,s also Easus free data recovery programs .

The difference between a full format and a quick format is the full format erases the table that tells where all the files are and also the headers and links of all the files. A quick format only erases the table. The files are still there, but Windows has no way of finding them unless you use recuva or testdisk or a similar program.

when you click format drive sd1 ,
    it shows a window format
tick small box click quick format Fat 32 opposed to default mode format full format wipes out all file table list info .
click fat32 first then click quick format then click ok ,
quick format takes 45 seconds approx

default format is ntfs full format

i used recuva 8 times it worked every time on 5 different HD drives 3 different sd cards

3 times i would use a sd card on my phone and a pc to transfer data ,
sometimes it showed up as zero.empty.
eg i plug it into pc via sd card reader ,it says do you wish to format drive sd1 ,
    drive is unformatted

sometime s i had a problem with my sdcard 16gig
if i plugged it in to a laptop ,it would appear as a empty drive,
window appears ,do you wish to format this drive .
even though i knew there was 10gig of music ,or podcasts on it.
has not happened in the last year .

,I bought a sdcard reader in power city ,brand trust.
comes with usb cable ,10 euro .
    bought it 2 weeks ago.
the sd card readers in dealz stop working after 2 weeks .
it looks like a standard usb drive 3 x half inch wide approx .
It not delicate at all .plugs into a standard usb port ,
or use the cable from provided .
works with otg cable on tablets too.
is the card physically damaged or cracked .

The best software would be DMDE for logical recovery...However data from those cards need to be recovered manully - It could be very expensive as technicians needs to solder using microscope.

IF the card is cracked and broken its not worth fixing,
like a hard drive where the platter is cracked .
Too expensive in most cases .
