Difference here is no EA devs are gonna browse the boards forum and take what we have to say and change the game, I have been very critical of the game but only in relation to bad bugs and glitches (some of which are still not fixed). Not because Terror Firmer is raping in tanks all the time!!!!

    LMAO

I don't play that much anymore, more because I'm busy rather than not wanting to play, so my tank time is pretty limited ;)

A lot more has been nerfed than just planes though, in fairness. Tanks, for one, are nothing like they were initially and they have heavily neutered certain tank classes.

Game is still good though, no major complaints.

Just came back to BF1 after a break of about 4 months.

Must say i am enjoying it, as frustating as it can be, its actually quite rewarding in that if you play your class well and contribute, try to take flags etc you will be top of the leaderboard even through your K/D ratio isnt great.

I must say i hate the over specialisation of weapons with little gadgets and skins etc.

I would be happy with a solid selection of weapons and leave it at that. I dont think we need multiple variations on the same weapon.

    [PC]
Dunno what it is about BF1, but i want to like it, but i cant. Dont get me wrong there are great gameplay moments but it seems to me you just die way quicker than in BF1. Im not gonna play hackers but theres a huge thread on the BF1 forums about how bad the anti-cheat in the game is.

Maybe its the time to kill(where you die very quickly compared to BF4). I suppose it doesnt help that my PC cant handle 64 player matches anymore.

You see some people i think in arty truck going 14-0(even more, ive seen ppl at 100-0) while as an infantry you get ur ass kicked.

Ive only played 65 hours, thats how much i hate it atm, i dunno theres just something not right about this game. Ive played every Battlefield on PC since BF 1942 i guess its a PC performance problem:(

Is there a boards.ie server or somewhere to play with, id love to back into it.

I would agree, I love the concept of the game the era the game is set in and all the old school guns. All the modern warfare crap left behind like lock on RPG etc. I love the audio and the graphics, hell I actually upgraded my PC just to play this game.....but you are right there is something not quite right with this game. Something I cant take to, like alot of people I have been playing BF since 1942 and its the 1st in the series I dont like.

    Have you tried hardcore mode?

It's a lot less explosion spammy and the lack of 3d spotting and names means you have to identify your target and work as a team a lot more

The closest I think of is calling it a poor man's Battlefield.
Compared to BF2/BF2142 gameplay it's severely lacking in tactics. Sure I get lots of kills etc and there are a few good maps but I find I don't get the same buzz from it.
For example..I had BF2 spec ops expansion and as a result I had the F2000 and flash bang grenades in the base game. On a game in sharqi peninsula where the crane is at point C I think there's a little hill up to the next flag (about 20 metres).. I run up firing my f2000 and taking out the 2 enemies approaching me, flung a flashbang over the wall, take out another enemy with my last remaining bullets in the mag, switch to pistol and take out 2 blinded enemies and knife the last guy and start capturing the flag. Sure I got killed next but the buzz I got from doing the above in the space of approx 15 seconds still lives with me over 10 years later.
BF2142 had those moments as well as 1942/Vietnam. It started to fade in BF3 and even more in BF4 but BF1 is by far the worst.
BF1 has none of that feeling whatsoever about it. It's a completely sterile game I find and even with a squad it still feels empty. It's a good game no doubt and absolutely gorgeous but there's a vacuous feeling to it.

I think that is partly nostalgia goggles you're got on, in fairness. Moments like what you've described happen all the time in BF1, flashbangs aside - to me, anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I think BF2 will always be my hands down favourite BF game, but I love BF1 and of all the things I would call it, sterile is not one of them and for me, it still very much has the Battlefield 'magic' that was in earlier games, even if it is a bit different.

    I think Battlefront is a poor man's Battlefield....but BF1 I think is a pretty solid franchise entry.

My two cents i enjoyed the game for a few weeks after release, have gone back it it many times, its probably my most installed/uninstalled game ever :P
But it just doesnt do it for me, love the era etc but no i just dont enjoy it longterm at all.
Not saying its great/bad or whatever but for me i just dont dig it.

Must say I love the game. Constantly playing it since release. Haven't been able to get into anything else since I picked it up. Fav game of ps4 era for me

I hear you're a tank whore anyway so it wouldn't make a difference to you :D
For anyone who's into flying/all out assault/sniping all those classes have been nerfed the past few games.
Flying--I might as well be spitting out the plane for all the good I do. Fighter planes have been nerfed since day 1. Trench fighter was a good thing to nerf but they decided to screw the dogfighter too.
Sniping- goddamn glint--the thrill of finding lovely sniping place, killing enemies and watching in glee as they took it so personal they would hunt you til they killed you was awesome.
Assault- An assault squad could be awesome...revive fallen teammates and push through enemy defenses. Now medic is a separate class and I know it has to meet WW1 criteria but jesus..medics weren't snipers in ww1 because that's basically what the medic class is in BF1.

Planes have been nerfed but good pilots still rule the roost, people like me ( who aspire to be decidedly average ) don't really get a look in . I think all my kills come from after I bail out with the sawn off :p

You'll get no traction on that one, the other team might want to hunt you down and kill you but your own team will be wishing you lose your connection to the server . Don't get me wrong , you paid for the game and can play it whatever way you want but I reckon sniper glint is in there to keep you moving and maybe play the objective .

Assault- An assault squad could be awesome...revive fallen teammates and push through enemy defenses. Now medic is a separate class and I know it has to meet WW1 criteria but jesus..medics weren't snipers in ww1 because that's basically what the medic class is in BF1.

Well playing squads still win the game, I get what you are saying about medics , if feels like they forgot to put in one more gun that you could feel a bit more comfortable with in close quarters . For that I now go back to the Cei Regotti in auto mode and try not to get too carried away myself, try and keep a bit of distance . I believe this will be somewhat rectified in the next DLC with an automatic gun for the medic ( according to jackfrags video ) .

Overall some people don't like the game and some do, saying it's bad is rubbish and saying "omg it's the best game ever" is rubbish .

Well I think in fairness you're cherry picking there - virtually every vehicle class has been nerfed to some extent, including tanks, it's not limited to planes.

I still encounter good pilots every game who dominate the battlefield, so planes are arguably now just better balanced, nerfed doesn't always have to be a bad thing.

It's the same for tankers as it is for fliers - the light tank has been nerfed repeatedly since the game came out to create better balance between other tank classes and assault players for example.

Even though I miss running amok quite as much as I did in the earlier versions of the game I have to admit that it is much better balanced now for everyone, not just the actual tankers/fliers themselves.

I agree with the sniper glint - nothing worse than playing a game and half your team is snipers, which does frequently happen on certain maps. The only way I would support the removal of glint is the capping of sniper numbers - but definitely don't support both.

Agree about the medics completely, it's the reason I only ever play assault (and support the odd time) - hate the limitations they've imposed on medics with regards weapons, it stinks. A decent compromise would maybe to allow assault or support class to have medic pouches, but unable to actually revive? Or else just give medic access to better guns, can't understand how it's not a thing.

I think squads work pretty much as good in this as they did in other BF games - it really requires friends or acquaintances for it to truly work, but that was true in older BF games as well from my experience. I mostly played on my own, none of my friends are PC gamers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,393 ✭✭✭jonski

none of my friends are PC gamers.

You have to ask yourself then if they really are 'friends' ? and if you are still thinking they are at least keep it to yourself :D .

My advice would be dump them and move on, it's probably what you've been thinking yourself, you just needed someone to say it .

New friends are cheap these days , a fiver a week would get you me telling you how great you are in TS ( just that you are great in TS not in BF1, that luxury costs a tenner )

Well i went for the premium deal, 20 quid off! hardly played the base maps lol

So first game i get into, on one of the DLC maps, some guy goes 86 or 82 headshots to like 2 deaths and this player was on my team.

So as the other team called him out i agreed and reported the player.

This anti-cheat thing they got aint working, never seen so many cheaters in BF4. Does anyone know why they got rid of "punkbuster" and added "FairFight"? Theres a huge thread on the official forums about how bad cheating is on BF1 on PC, its like 140 pages long.

    https://forums.battlefield.com/en-us/discussion/98757/i-stopped-bf1-impossible-to-play-without-seeing-a-cheat#latest

    edit:
All you folks from BF4 aint playing BF1 so was wondering what you are playing instead?

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,434 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

I think i only came across one game with a cheater in it so don’t get the whole worse than bf4 argument. Definitely less cheaters I find.

As for snipers they should have capped them instead of glint. A good sniper on your team who works with his squad in spotting enemies, providing covering fire is worth his weight in gold but all you ever hear is omg i hate snipers blah blah blah blah.
In reality everyone should be in a squad and one sniper per squad.

The glint is only a problem if you're using a high powered scope and not relocating

If you're using a scope powered x4 or below, there's no glint. Higher magnifications produce the glint. This is the same as in BF3 and BF4

If you're a good sniper you'll relocate regularly so that if someone tries to hunt you down, you'll be gone before you get there. If you're a camper who sits on the corner of the map waiting for someone to walk out into the open, you're not going to get much sympathy from players who like to play the objective.

Scope glint is great for counter sniping, but if you are counter sniping and using a high powered scope too, then the guy you're aiming at will see you, and then it's a matter of the better shooter winning.

I love the scout class, but I usually only use 4x scopes because I like to play the objective and help my team. I'll spot enemies, lay down flares and cover the guys who are capturing the flag or telegraph station.

I've downloaded it but haven't had a chance to play it yet. My wife thinks all the screaming and blood and people catching fire and stabbing each other with shovels etc might not be great for our young kids.

Nah, I hate games that tell me what class I have to play as. Besides, there's a very good chance that the one valuable sniper spot would be taken up by a douche who just wants to sit on the top of a hill and take pot shots at tiny people very far away.

Ha feel your pain, Ive used the Ireland game tonight to get the wife out of the house, trying to decide now whether to play this or watch the game (BF1 winning at the mo ;-)

I did the same thing with the Hurling final on sunday. I put the hurling on the laptop with RTE Player and kept an eye on it

Will probably do the same with the Ireland match tonight.

Some if the new maps are pretty cool. Albion in particular seems huge. You have to use a boat to get to A at the beginning which is pretty cool

My ps4 downloaded 10 gbs of maps this week, I'm assuming these are the new maps you're talking about?

Are these free with the base game? I'm assuming they are. I only bought the firs expansion pack (TSNP).

There are 6 new maps but they're only available to premium members at the moment, they'll by available for purchase as stand alone dlc next week, and base game owners will be able to play them for a while if they're part of a party where at least one person owns the premium game (you won't get XP for those rounds though)

    I hate the sniper shield.

I spent ages trying to get 5 kills from behind the sniper shield in one round. First of all, I didn't realise it was all in one round, so I just used the shield when it was appropriate but they didn't get recorded, then I decided to spend the whole round focused on getting those 5 kills. What a pain in the ass, you have to find a camping spot because the shield is a pain to deploy and you die half the time because when you put it down, it's not at the right angle to actually see your target, or it moves out of the narrow field of view

Then the fog comes in when you've got 4 kills and the round ends before you get the last one.

I hate camping. I hate sitting there while my team loses and I'm not helping them.

I did 3 of the service assignments and I'm done with assignments now. It's not fun playing to check off these boxes. I'll unlock the rest of them by just playing the game the way I want to play it.

Some of them really are a pain in the swiss, shoot down 2 planes with an LMG one in particular is a nightmare.

I tried for ages to get one in conquest, then i jumped into operations and shot down 3 fighters during one iron walls round.

The planes are actually extremely easy but you need to think logically about it.

You're not going to down a full health bomber from scratch. Don't even try because if they have a gunner, you're dead.
You just need to time your shots. Look for already damaged planes and go at them instead.
If you see an AA dealing with a plane, drop down and start shooting. Yea you might be kill-stealing on the AA but so what.
Don't forget most LMG have super distance when firing. If you see a damaged plane in the distance, bipod and start going at it. You'll either stop it repairing and force it to turn around, or hopefully destroy it.

I manged to do both of my kills on first attempt using the MG15 Suppressive on Monte Grappa. Hopefully your team will have both mountain points.
If so, just sit up there and camp. I seriously got it in no time.
Also don't be afraid to use an AA first at a strafing plane, get it nice and low and then finish it off.

Last piece of advice I can give, even if you see a pilot bail, keep shooting at the plane. It says to destroy planes, not get kills. My second was a bailed pilot, destroyed the plane and got the unlock.

    Good luck.
