My last round I took the one man tank cause I was literally destroying everything in the heavy and would rarely die.
Still didn't die. Even took out two heavys in close quarters (not at the same time)
Easy to take out tanks if you know their weaknesses.
I mean for Rush mode to get people safely up to the objective. Like the troop carrier in Battlefield 3.

For day one - I'm enjoying it a lot so far.
I'll be back and forth for the week messing about on it. I'll make a final decision once I get to do a lot more testing. So far - so good. I really just wish we had another closer map to test on.

Has anyone figured out what activating artillery does on rush? You can press e on your telegraph m comm to send coordinates, but I have no idea if anything happened. Did it 11 times in one round according to end of round screen, but no visible results I could see!

Played for a couple of hours last night, I think it's pretty good. I've played a lot of bf4 over the past 6 months and while I enjoy the game, I'm terrible at it. This seems a bit easier and less frantic. That'll probably piss off the hardcore players but it suits me.

It's their narrative to explain why the defenders need to move back after an mcom has been taken.

I've 16gb ram but that wouldn't cause that difference. wtf could be causing my low fps.

What resolution scale do you have set?

Think the default scale is 43% so that would be the 100% of scale anything more and you're adding scale.

Xbox one and ps4 controllers work. Try JoyToKey converts joy pad input to keyboard output. It's donationware.

Be great if it worked, all the standard users coming on has killed the servers, surprise surprise...

I think I really need to play a hardcore mode to get a feeling for it. Are there any hardcore servers?

I'm not happy at all with the weapons. It feels wrong to shoot half a magazine from an LMG into somebody at 10 feet, they don't drop dead but turn and head shot you with their rifle (the lewis LMG fires a .303 round with an effective range of 600 meters). Machine guns, by design, are not meant to be incredibly accurate, they are designed to suppress the enemy and therefore naturally have a slight spread, but the spread in the game is just insane. Sniper rifle is a 2 shot kill unless you get a head shot. The lee enfield also fires a .303 round, which will put a bloody large hole in you. You would be hard pushed to walk away from a shot to the torso.

The bomber is a huge target, and I found it goes down quite easily, but if you get the hang of dropping bombs, it's devastating. Took me ages to get the hang of it, but then I got on a role and halted enemy advances several times. Hint, watch out for electricity poles and wires :P

I was able to defend two points on rush for a good 5+ minutes in a heavy tank. The shotgun on the tank is very satisfying. Infantry couldn't do a whole lot. Oh and horses are invincible it seems, wtf is that about? Also shot a bomber out of the sky with the main gun, that was beautiful :P

Stationary weapons around the map are awesome although the flak gun is awful against infantry and tanks, I couldn't hit any infantry with it, which was disappointing, I was under the influence that it's an effective way to dispatch infantry, unless North Korea is lying. The machine guns are also very inaccurate, I don't know how realistic this is, but it takes quite a while to take down one person. Firing at waves of infantry, I killed nobody, but hurt a lot. The machine guns should be able to cut down infantry easily, to be countered by air, cavalry and snipers. Oh god, snipers... I like to snipe, but joining a server where half the enemy team are snipers is just not fun. Put a bloody limit on it. 1 per squad at least, you can only be a sniper in a squad, no lone wolf snipers. Promote the team play a bit more.

You can bayonet charge way too much. There should be one long charge which is on a 1 minute cooldown and then a much shorter charge which is on a 10 second cool down. I used the bayonet charge for travelling long distances.

The maps are visually appealing and the sound is quite nice. The sound of the tanks getting hit is awesome, the reloading of artillery is also fantastic. I think they did a great job on the sound.

Overall I am quite undecided. I am very happy about some parts of the game, and other parts I am very disappointed. Will see how it goes over the next week.

Agree with most of that but I wont be playing normal when the game comes out so not too bothered by bullet sponges.

Should get a decent amount of time in today.

Killed a good few of them yesterday doing their little routine. Very satisfying.

had a look around the various forums, i don't see any thread for pc grouping up, are people all grouped up from bf4 days?

Loving it... sand storms are amazingly atmospheric! Riding a horse around with a sabre chopping people down and riding off into the storm is just brilliant fun :)
Loving the old "bonkers invention" style tanks and the bi-planes too.

This is by far and away the best Beta I've played. Its pretty much perfect on my (fairly modest) rig and amazingly I'm getting 50-70 frames and more in 1920x1080 on a GF 780 ... what sorcery is this??

I was kinda over BF after putting 120 hours into number 4 and while I loved it, I've become jaded with the FPS shooter genre (only took 20 years right?)... but this is dragging me back in. Its going on my pre-order list (of 1) now because this Beta is better than BF4's release version haha...

Haha I've done my overclocking now to the fun stuff :D bf4 runs @4k ultra with aa off so hope this runs nicely!

Its open beta (anyone can join) from today yeah?

Yea, I played every one of them (1,650 hours between BF4 and BF3 alone :P), excluding the the bad company series. I found the LMGs in BF4 to be incredibly effective at medium to long range. The grouping is a lot more realistic. there's still a spread, but with controlled bursts, you could take out infantry successfully.

I'm going to give the LMGs another shot tonight to see if it's just me or are they really in need of some improvement. Looking forward to getting home from work :)

    Maybe the LMGs of the great war were that terrible, but I don't think so. Rapid fire machine guns were in operation for about 50 years (I think) by the time of the great war. So the technology wasn't new. My point here, I guess, is that the technology would have been improved on, mainly in terms of cooling, size, weight and ease of use. I watched a few demonstrations of ww1 weapons on youtube lately, the setup of some of the weapons is very complex IMO. Look at this bad boy for instance;

I've merged the threads. All the other beta talk is already in here, so it's the simplest solution.

Just on the subjects of weapons, LMG's were not in mass operation by the start of WWI and were still pretty new to all armies, and SMG's were totally new and would have been oretty poor at anything other than short range.

Obviously they were also designed entirely for trench fighting and not battling it out in the open plains of the desert so it's stupid for the beta that some classes can't opt to use bolt action rifles or carbines. Hopefully in the full game all classes will have broad access to most types of weapons.

Yea, totally agree. I really wish we had more access to the bolt action weapons which were used en mass by all sides. that would make for some really fun battles :)

Think the default scale is 43% so that would be the 100% of scale anything more and you're adding scale.

That could be it. I've been running at 70. I'll reduce it and see how it goes. Thanks.

That's exactly your issue. I upped it also and then quickly realised that 42% was my full native resolution. I lowered it and was back in business.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Yeah, that's a really weird choice by Dice to have 42% scaling as your native resolution. In other games, and in BF4/Hardline, it's usually 100% is native, then up to 200%.

yeah I pumped mine up to 70% and my fps dropped down to 40

put it back to 42% and I get 70

on a gtx 970 set to high
