battlefield has always been 64 player. I really dunno how people play it on the older consoles, only 24 player! I've played battlefield 4 on the 360 and its really....empty.

32man BF2 Strike at Karkand w/vehicles = my pick for best map/map size in BF history.
    That or 32man Mashtuur City.
64man Guf of Oman was amazing too.

BF1 does 64man very well though

Ive put a lot of time into BF1 and it still feels and plays like possibly the best MP fps of the past decade, then again that wouldn't be hard.
My biggest gripe with the previous games in the series was the fact DICE seemed to have forgotten how to make a decent map.
Grand bazaar from vanilla BF3 and few from Back to Karkand and Aftermath were good maps but no more than 5-6 good maps from maybe 35+ maps from BF3 and DLC just isn't good enough.
Same story with BF4 ,maps were just poor, with BF1 it seems as if they atleast made 4-5 really decent maps off the bat, however there are atleast 3 shockers in there and all 3 are the desert maps, truly terrible maps.

Fao Fortress is just a snipers heaven with little to no cover,Sinai Desert similar but then has this ridiculous close quarters cluster in the middle of the map, sniper heaven to shotgun heaven but no balance at all,Suez is just a run n gun cod style clusterfcuk.

The sooner the better we get 3rd party servers so clans and communities can filter out these maps in their server configs.
Maybe its just me but these maps just play terrible on conquest, I haven't played rush yet so cant comment, hopefully they play better.

I agree with you, the desert maps are terrible and I always groan when they come on. Server browser -> Filter them off -> Join server -> Finish map -> Desert map loads -> Sigh -> Leave game -> Return to step 1.

I dont mind Sinai Desert its not the worse map, Monte Grappa is the laziest map design I have seen in a long time its just rubbish. I think Ballroom Blitz is the best MP map I have played in a long time.

Suez is the only one ill more than likely quit out of, its literally just spawn/die/repeat while eveyrone tries to capture B

I can sort of live with the sniper levels, i guess they have to have their fun as well, it can be quite frustrating alright

I've played a rake of BF1 over the past few days, I have to say there aren't really any maps I dislike, though Fortress and Empire's Edge would be on the lower end of my preferences.

I really like Sinai Desert, apart from G being too far away from the action and going largely ignored by most players. The Desert maps are excellent if you're a decent tanker or pilot, common enough to get k/d like 30/40 - 1.

Also like Suez, good infantry close quarters map.

Monte Grappa is a great map in spots, the fights over the points on the mountain are excellent and where I spent 90% of my time.

Does anyone else like the Aimens, or scar maps? Them and ballroom blitz and Aragon forest are my favourites, can't stand fao fortress, your capturing point d and someone on the fortress with a sniper rifle gets you and your squad, has happened a few times on it,

Funnily enough I do the exact opposite. I usually spend my time around A or E because they are routinely underdefended and it is possible to solo them. Which I often find necessary because squad play is so poor compared to other BF games for some reason.

Amiens,Scar,Ballroom and forest are my favourites.

Incendiary grenades into the bunkers on Forest never disappoints.

Mortars are only something I discovered yesterday in Argonne (and the support class in general which is the only one I hadn't used so far), also hugely effective. Shows as well how a team can work well together - spotters are invaluable.

Squad play is poor overall though. 80% of squad leaders don't issue objectives, and those that do, most of the squad ignore them. I find as squad leader, most people just do their own thing - not uncommon to have one member at point A, another at D, one at F, etc at any given time even if the leader has issued objective 'C'.

Decent suggestion over on reddit for leaders - most players probably aren't even aware of orders or instruction, it's not overly obvious to new players.

I am still trying to pry myself away from operations to sample the other game modes. Its just too damn good. I love the changing battle lines and push and pull feeling.

Incendy nades and support are a sick combo in most maps. Nade - Ammo - Nade - Ammo - Rinse - Repeat. BURN ALL THE THINGS!!

Love it when people are sniping from small rooms one or two stories up and you just burn the place down. It's excellent.

Getting real sick of my twitter blowing up with poeple bitching about mortars and gas. Both are fine bar the silly bug with mortars where you can spam 4 in a row without resetting your view. At least I assume its a bug.

If you die to one, watch the map and just go troll the fupper. So many times I've been killed by them and just gone up behind them with a point blank execution. (I personally find revolvers quite satisfying for this)

RE squad orders - they just need to put the BF4 system back in. If you dont give an order and someone requests it, you have x time before squad leader is handed over.

Yeah I guarantee they are going to nerf the gas from 2 to 1. It's crazy and they work fine, put on the mask and get out of dodge-simples. Have yet to try incendiary, I'd say they are great for clearing bunkers.

The whistle and shouting is such a nice touch when you capture the sector as well.

Basically making them useless. Might as well not be in the game if they do this. I rarely die to gas as it is.
The one thing I could agree with them doing is stopping it through walls. But that is all. I wouldn't touch the damage.

The counter for the incendiary grenades is a smoke grenade in case people don't know.

It puts it out very fast.

Stop telling people this. You'll ruin all my fun.

Also, if you catch fire go prone. Just don't do it in the fire.

I was mulling over picking this up for PC last night and noticed it had gone up in price since the weekend , it's now €46 .

Worth every penny. I'm 'only' 30 hours into multi-player, and feel like I've barely scratched the surface. It's an excellent game - not to mention fully stable and free of any serious bugs.

I've been flip flopping around PC gaming the past while, having given up on BF4 a while back out of boredom, and have been stopping and starting so many games without finding one I felt interested in.

BF1 is the game I'd been waiting for but just didn't realise!

The horses are great crack altogether once you get used to the handling. Wiped out an entire squad with the sword last night, caught them in the open on Ballroom Blitz and they didn't see me until it was too late. Then another couple of guys opened fire on me and I just hopped off the horse. Horse kept running for a bit which distracted them and they didn't know where I'd gone. Caught up with some team members then on point A and was able to lash out ammo and med packs, before finding my horse again. I think I have a new favourite class!

I really hope they don't change the gas grenades it's not even the kills that's the best part but when you lob them into a room with a couple of enemies and the panick on them as they try get masks on or run away is great you can pick them off easily.

Hate the horses and the whole hero unit BS brought over from Battlefront.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,825 ✭✭✭IvoryTower

Both have had very little effect on my experience so I'm happy to have them, adds a bit of variety without being a game changer. The special weapons seem to put a big target on my head every time i pick them up

I'm really enjoying the game and that's coming off playing the beta for an hour and hating it. However, i do have some issues with weapon balance and I'm not a fan of the Airship/Armoured train/Dreadnaught addition to the losing team.

Weapon balance is seriously an issue for me and it's something i hope will improve over a number of patches. Some very obvious ones in my opinion would be

Medic Rifles: Once you get the 26 round rifle unlocked, nearly all the other rifles become obsolete. Why would you take a 5 round bolt action rifle with lower damage over a 26 round, semi auto, magazine fed rifle at nearly max damage for the class?

Assault Shotguns: A little too over powered, you're almost guaranteed a 1 shot kill at close ranges and at mid range it's still surprisingly powerful

Assault SMG: 60 round mag SMG with little to no recoil unlockable at lvl 10. I know it takes a bit of effort involved to get there but it's still way too overpowered, i've picked it up a few times and it's crazy how easy it is to use.

LMGs need a bit of a damage buff and an accuracy nerf, it feels like you're shooting pellets, very accurate pellets at that!

They'd be the 4 off the top of my head that need a look at.

Dabbled in operations, wouldn't have played too many to form a solid opinion but the one stand out moment for me was being pushed back to our last flag and the enemy being granted an airship! Completely unfair advantage and ruined the flow of the game for me. The map we were playing on was the one released during the alpha.

The game has been very stable for me and from what i i've experienced so far is void of any major bugs or game breaking bugs when compared to previous BF releases, so yeah, I'm liking it!

How many maps does the fog appear in? I played 3 rounds in a row last night where it rolled in half way through. While the odd time can add a bit of atmosphere, 3 games in a row is too much. Once it rolls in, the skies, stationary weapons, behemoths, mortars and scouts of the game are basically useless.

I don't mind Fao Fortress as usually snipers make for great instant melee kills and seem to have terrible awareness but Suez and Sinai Desert are 2 maps I really can't stand.

On Suez, you're either dominating the other team or getting dominated there doesn't seem to be any middle ground. 3 flags on a 64 player game mode is downright ridiculous.

On Sinai Desert you're ethier fighting door to door between C and D or jumping in craters trying to travel across the open spaces.

I believe the fog is available on all maps? The weather system is dynamic as far as I know and I don't think you can really plan on a specific type of weather on any of the maps. May just be a coincidence that it happened 3 games in a row.

As for certain weapons and vehicles becoming useless, I could argue scouts are useless with or without fog.

Although there's been a few times the fog has rolled in while I've been in a plane, it didn't have much of an effect on me due to being in an agile biplane but it caused the bombers a world of trouble. The fog knocks people out of their comfort zone. If you do nothing but sit on a hill with a rifle it will force you to move closer to an objective, if you do nothing but fly around in the bomber it will make bombing sweeps almost suicide, I welcome it.

Completely agree, they need to change how often and how long it lasts because it's just a pain. The only positive I can find from it is the cavalry class becomes virtually unstoppable. Don't know how many times I heard horse hooves in fog and ran for the nearest house out of necessity.
