hi. have a 2000 honda crv and the gearstick moves into all gears when car is off but not when car is running.

looks like all the fluid has leaked out of cylinder. was sitting outside unused last 6 months.

Have to move it now, and just wondering is there any trick to get it to move 30 odd miles?
can i just refill clutch fluid and go? or does it need bleeding?
also would this indicate a master or slave cylinder leak??
if so, can it be bled easy enough? or is there a trick to get it going into gears for a short time?
    thanks:D:D:D

basically want to know, can I just refill with fluid and head off? or refill pump clutch a few times and head off? thanks

Fill it and see what happens. It'll either work or it won't.

If it doesn't work it'll need to be bled. If it does work, carry some fluid with you in case it needs to be topped up along the way.

My advice: get a recovery truck to bring it to the mechanic.
If the clutch system has failed then the brake system which uses a very similar setup could have failed as well.
Its one thing to drive with a bad/no clutch. Quite another thing to drive with no/failed brakes. If anything happens and it is found that you drove 30 miles with a faulty car then I don't think you could expect much sympathy.
For the small cost of transport get the car to the mechanic safely.

There is a bleed nipped on slave cylinder you bleed it the same way you bleed brakes.
But if the fluid level has dropped you have a leak probably seals or rubber hose perish worn.

You'll need to find leak and fix it first or as suggested if you aren't DIY'ing get it towed to garage on flatbed or trailer

There's also (from memory) a seperate fluid resevoir for the clutch, make sure you fill the right one. Otherwise bleedin out the air can take a fair long while..and there's a bleed nipple on the slave cylinder.

Thanks everyone...filled fluid and nothing...cant find a leak anywhere...still wouldnt move...let car idle for 20 mins and kept pumping clutch.....then it went into all gears...drove abit to see how it was and its perfect...re- checked fluid and its full....hopefully thats it, but will get checked fully..thanks for all advice

Cluth disc had stuck to the flywheel or pressure plate due to lack of use. Should be fine to drive now but be wary of the low fluid thing, it had to go somewhere!

they dump fluid out of slave cylinder when gone and you should see a damp patch under gearbox, put your hand on rubber on slave and squeeze it will ooze out fluid if gone,or look under dash to see if master cylinder is wetting carpet.
