If you're prepared to play sport, Fit2go boot camp. They've indoor and outdoor classes at different abilities with a good mix of male and female participants. Gym is near Cathedral or train outdoors in rugby club/Presentation school/Leos track.People are aged about 25-50. 6 weeks x 3 times a week is about 60 quid I think. They usually organise a night out or sometimes a walk up Mt Leinster or the like.

In March/April head up to rugby club and sign up to tag rugby for the summer months. Big social scene in June- July. Tennis club is always trying to attract new members but you'll have yearly fees. Age probably 30 - 45. Rugby are always recruiting if you've played in the past you could try training with second team.

What are your interests? I'm sure someone will be able to guide you better, as another poster has already posted there is a pretty good fitness scene in Carlow town (with alot of bootcamps, I personally use fit2go so am biased towards them) adding to the rugby club you have running clubs like adreneline and SLOT and not forgetting the rowing club aswell.

    Cheers for the links :-)

Very little in Carlow in terms of just meeting up in a pub for example and just chatting for a while.I like the idea of the photgraphy society,I have a camera and I do take pictures a fair bit but the auld camera is pretty dated and sh*te to be honest.

There is a thing called two pint tuesday carlow I think, have to recheck that, but anyway I don't drink so I don't know if that will be a problem.I'm into badminton and there was a group which I went to for a while and it was great but it got cancelled(it was in the carlow tennis club)

    thanks again.

Nope never went to Men's Shed just heard about it from my sister. It is a charity AFAIK..it's a place to meet up and chat from what I gathered and socialise, they also do activities, maybe I'm wrong on that.

I don't do sports so meeting people that way will be a problem.I'll drop into brianblazes spot and get chatting there.

    Take care.

Don't want to hijack the thread or anything, but I was curious likewise and thought there was no point in making a whole new thread above this one.

Social club-wise does anyone know any art or movie social clubs? I was told Visual do a classic movie club, but when I went in none of the staff had any idea what I was talking about.

Are there any movie/gaming or art clubs? I know The further ed. building out behind the TEC do art classes and other classes in the evening but you have to pay a whack of money upfront for them, it's not casual walk-in-walk-out.

I'm 24-years-old, just moved back to Carlow after being away for a few years and trying to reconnect with the social scene.

I think the Visual 'film club' is more a series of movie screenings rather than a club in the usual sense with committee, meetings, etc.

Perhaps one way to get introduced to the local arts scene is to help out with the annual Carlow Arts Festival, they're always looking for volunteers.

Thanks for the advice, Slim. Some great ideas there. I really appreciate it.

Just like the OP I don't drink, it seems if you don't drink in Carlow your social life will be next to non-existent.

    Sounds interesting.

Do you mean table-top gaming, or video gaming? If video gaming, and if it is any worth I have an OUYA console here. It can play anything from SNES, NES, and Genesis up to PS1, output in HDMI. Can link up PS3 controllers for multiplayer. Always a great laugh when the lads come over playing Mario Kart and Gunstar Heroes.

I'll ask the local two nearby places and see if they're into it. I won't be able to go for a while with this baby due (today)_ but I'll see who's into it!

I would definitely go to something like this if it were going. You had me at NES!

You haven't played Castlevania, Duck Hunt or Super Mario Bros. until you've played them outputted through HDMI onto a huge, widescreen TV in all their pixelated glory with simulated surround sound. We could have a movement starting here.

    This might be helpful:

They do a good few pub nights but they have coffee mornings as well. Most of the members are female but it's all quite social.
