Is there some home and away agreement between Tipp and Dublin I wonder. Tipp had home advantage in the league quarter final when Dublin defeated them in Semple Stadium. I don't remember any moaning from Dublin at the time so perhaps there is an agreement.

Home and away agreements generally only apply to the Championship. League fixtures wouldn't be brought into the mix.

Last Championship meeting between the two was an AI qualifier in Thurles in 2017.

No need to worry about home and away versus Dublin, Laois have dumped them out.
We should beat Laois in the quarter final, but we have to turn up. Take nothing for granted.

I think thats to be expected though. Neutrals always like to see the underdogs do well.

Agreed, and we've seen that happen today and already multiple times in the championship. Still though, I am expecting Tipp to win. But we must turn up and take the game seriously.

Yes, Eddie Brennan's time as a hurler on the best team of a generation has relevance to what happens next Sunday.

Don't think anyone thought we'd have laois is a quarter final. Draw definitely worked out for us. Having said that Laois are a fine team and we certainly can't take them lightly.
Cavanagh doesn't miss too many frees so something we need to focus on not giving soft frees. The Dunphys will also need to be shut down. Should be a belter.

Ah lads come on...::this game will be sh1t.

The spread is 15 points and were 1/80.

    Lightening won’t strike twice.

Only down side is that a fair proportion of the tipp support won’t travel because it’s laois and the results a foregone conclusion

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 140 ✭✭nw5iytvs0lf1uz

It is not arrogant to say tipp will win handy. If u saw the highlights last night some of the Laois hurlers looked really cack handed striking the ball.
If tipp lose this we may as will give up hurling
This could not have worked out better for tipp
Basically a prep game in Croke Park to get the team ready for Wexford.

Surely it's a chance to throw on the fringe players, all those young lads we finished with the last day need game time. I actually think it's bad for us laois won, Don t get me wrong I m delighted for them and it's good for hurling but dublin would gave given us a real rattle, I d imagine they had one eye on us yesterday.

dublin would give us a good rattle and given our age profile and recent thrashing we dont need that.
by the time we play wexford we will have had basically a 4 week break.
that will give us a chance of beating wexford.

Fair enough but we can t really win on Sunday, if we beat them out the gate, it's to be expected, if it's any way tight question marks remain. Hard to build any momentum off of it. A win over dublin who had just knocked out galway might have restored some belief, not that that would be a sure thing by any account. Hopefully the break will be a benefit rather than a drawback.

You're spot on about it been a no win game for us (apart from actually winning the game, that is, but you know what i mean!). Think we might see a couple of tactical changes, but nothing drastic because they simply have to maintain a professional ethic and give no impression we're taking anything for granted. People shouldnt forget Westmeath gave us a bit of bother a couple of years back and any slackness or complacency wouldnt augur well for the matches afterwards, assuming we get over this one.

We have to treat this match the exact same as if we were playing Dublin. If we do then you can get lads off the bench on if we have a good lead built up. But we need to hit Laois hard early to do that.
Also regardless of who we were playing you'd expect a few changes from the Munster Final team anyway

Under 20's munster semi final tonight in Semple vs Waterford 19.30. Live on tg4.

Paddy Cadell, Jerome Cahill & Jake Morris all start from our senior setup.

Really need some of these young lads to step up.

Barry Heffernan at full back be worth trying? Thought he played well there vs Clare.

I could see that one coming Mick Breen might be under pressure at midfield too he has been subbed the last two games Assuming Niall O'Meara is 100% Dan McCormack or Ger Browne could go in therequote="Ompala;110646848"]Barry Heffernan at full back be worth trying? Not a bad call. Either him or Ger Browne, would like to see one of them anyway.

Bit bloodless to learn much from that, but looks a very decent side at a minimum. Loved the way Niall Heffernan took a big hit there and bounced straight up, ready to get on with it. Love to see that in young lads.

The blahs were terrible so its hard to know. Once we got going we played some nice stuff. Worryingly not one player south of Cashel involed. Whatever is going on down there it's not working. Population in the south is higher, if we only had half as many hurlers coming from the south compared to north tipp we'd be unstoppable.

Yeah from davins, brother Michael was on panel last year would have been playing but injured most of the year.

Liam picked a good few South men on that minor winning side from 16 to be fair and he scours the length and breadth of the county for talent. Strangely enough the likes of Mikey O'Shea or Conor Whelan who excelled on last years minor team havent been called up. Perhaps its a sign of intense competition. Both of those lads really stood out last year.

Strong team named. Think it's important to get off to a good start and not to give laois any hope of thinking they can win. Think Sheedy will want goals and to bury Laois early. Might be a good opportunity to give the younger lads a run out in the second half. Curtain raiser should be a cracker!

Possibly but it's late in the season now, he's been around the squad all year but hasn't made many match day panels suggesting that Sheedy isn't a big fan. Barry should be fine for the laois game and the Wexford game should suit him as they play a physical game but if we get to the final against Limerick or Cork I'd actually go with the 3 corner backs, O'brien, Barrett and Flynn.

Interesting team named. I'm reading it as Sheedy giving Barry another game to try get his confidence back after the Limerick game. It is definitely a position that we need to work on, as we really have no established full back apart from Barry. Having said that, Brian McGrath, Michael Whelan or Conor Whelan are all promising player who could fill the gap in the future. Similarly we keep chopping and changing our full back line between Sean O Brien and Alan Flynn. Need to get a settled full back line. Killian O Dwyer is a promising prospect for the number jersey.

Regards the other changes, happy to see Ger Browne starting and looking to see how he gets on. Pressure will be on Michael Breen in the future to hold on to his spot. Good to see Niall starting again, didn't make any real impact off the bench against Limerick but tbf the whole team had given up trying at that point.

Ideally Sheedy will want this game put to bed early and get to empty the bench. Its an opportunity to give the likes of Jerome Cahill, Jake Morris, Brian McGrath and Mark Kehoe a good run out if things pan out this way. Looking forward to the game.

Finally, as for the Under 20s during the week, took a while to settle but as soon as they hit their stride comfortably the better team. Will be a big step up against Cork in the Final, but no reason we can't win. Cork have good forwards but a bit suspect at the back.

found nobody to replace him last year , and tought he did very well until the munster final . But if we are to go by the munster final then 13 of the team would not start on sunday

James Barry will be a far better player with Cathal Barrett beside him and Brendan Maher back at 5. Like you say he hadn't done much wrong up to the Munster final and no full back will survive if the ball is coming back in him straight away after he clears it. But we definitely need to try someone new there in the league next year

if tipp do manage to get to the final, i think tipp will have to adopt a very defensive game and try keep the scoring low.
basically mob our own half of the field when we dont have the ball and make limerick/cork shoot from distance.
tipp in this scenario would also have to score from distance.
tipp just need to be alive with 20 to go.

Agree completely with you. Sheedy backed Barry from the start of the year, put his faith in him and can't just step back now following one setback. If he was flush with options then who knows? As far as i recall, Brian McGrath was injured for quite a bit of the League so not sure about the comment re Sheedy not liking or rating him or whatever it was.

I don't think it would have made any difference v Limerick if Barrett had been there. If Barry gets dragged out the field or into space he is in big trouble.
In previous games we had the luxury of sitting Paudie in front of him and our corner backs were largely in place and we worked really hard to stop teams playing in good ball so he largely had a armchair ride and is actually a good full back when he can maintain his position around the square.
However Paudie was dragged out by Limerick and we couldn't stop them playing good ball in and Barry was well exposed by them. At the moment we probably don't have any other options and we will be hoping that we can hold our shape a bit better to protect him.
I would be worried about the likes of Rory O'Connor for Wexford against him in the semi-final.

Was referring to the limerick game. Thought breen was in good company in terms of performance. Think Sheedy should’ve wielded the axe for Laois. Would’ve liked to see 4 of the less established names start.
