The Tipperary GAA (Club and Intercounty) Thread

Dont mention the back to back folks. its the rock we've perished on many the occasion. Actually, the irony is we came closer to doing it in 2011 then any other year. It was the only year we reached a final after winning it since the previous back to back.

Im excited by the personnel coming through but happy to take things one day at a time. The real hurling will start in May.

100% agree with this. Let the hurling do the talking. Not worried about winning a league title but need new lads to get experience from it.

Wind a bit of a factor. Can’t complain it’s only January.

Disappointing one to lose given the circumstances, but a good run out for the new players. Very poor goals to give away which ultimately proved the difference. Plenty for both teams to work on.

I'd say they are looking at the anticipated attendance and not using the stadium because of that. Hopefully the lads hit the ground running it will be Tipp FM for me not going to freeze for a second day in a row

Footballers were unlucky to only draw, they could have won, playing most of the match with only 14 was their downfall, some strange decisions from the ref didn’t help either. Lads seem to have a decent level of fitness.

Not mad about that midfield. Wouldn't have Willie Connors playing, just don't think he is good enough for intercounty. Can see Paddy Cadell and Alan Flynn switching positions. Is Ger Browne injured atm? Don't like shoving Michael Breen up to wing forward either as he is used to playing midfield. Glad to see Cian Darcy being given a chance, though doubt he will last the full game considering UL vs Mary I went to extra time in the Fitzgibbon during the week.

Hard one to gauge last night. Was an extremely loose game played at challenge match intensity until the last 5 mins. Cork started with a lot more regulars so not too surprised they won.

From our view, I think we need to try new players at No.4. Sean O'Brien was poor last night. Joe O'Dwyer, Barry Heffernan would be worth a shot. Killian O'Dwyer and Craig Morgan also good prospects, but are tied with Fitzgibbon cup commitments too. Ronan caught very badly on the ball prior to the penalty. Thought Joe O'Dwyer did well. Whats the story with Barrett?Half back line lost their men a lot during puckouts, gave Cork easy possession on restarts.

Midfield was a disaster. Connors has been given a lot of chances but not staking a claim. Surely Ger Browne, Paddy Cadell or Jerome Cahill would be a better option. Was surprised Cadell got subbed, was playing well imo. Hope hes not injured.

Half forward line struggled throughout. Not sure what the point of trying Breen there was, leave him at midfield if going to play him. Cian Darcy with a couple of nice points, hope to persist with him the next day. John McGrath took his scores well. Forwards seemed too static for puckout options.

Inside line struggled, partly as the ball in was fairly poor, particularly 2nd half. You notice the difference Noel McGrath can make when hes not playing. Forde very quiet, Morris struggled though Kehoe was much improved on the previous week.

Hope Bubbles is alright too, looked nasty. Early reports suggest its not too bad.

Not concerned with the result as its just the league, and rather hit the ground running for championship. Would like to see some variation in our play though. Too many high balls going into forward line.

Still, could have won it, but Cork were the better team last night. Onwards to Galway in 2 weeks, will be a good test.

Darcy and Morris played last Wednesday in fitzgibbon cup full 60mins was a tough physical game and Cadell has a back injury( suppose to be not to bad) taken off as a precaution, is browne injured would like to see him get more play time during the league.

Glad to hear nothing serious with Cadell, he's playing good hurling atm. Yeah, Fitzgibbon Cup always makes integrating new players difficult this time of year. Dunno about Browne, but he does offer a lot of pace.

Well done to Tipperary Footballers. They showed a lot of bottle to win this game which many people thought had gone from them.

They face the long road to Derry next Sunday with renewed confidence and justifiably so.

Whatever went on with cadell, he has been the biggest stand out over the two games for me. Looks comfortable, like he belongs. Good future for him and kehoe i think.

Sheedy will be happy enough I'd imagine. Full back line was in trouble but that won't be full back line come summer anyway. Darcy definitely has something to offer and jake looks much happier to me making runs from deep. Good to see niall omeara too, someone wrote on here he was gone for the year but seems not to be the case. We've lost to two teams who really wanted to win more than we did, and with a bit more coherent forward play and clinical finishing, we might have won both. Happy enough with that.

Philip Austin is in his mid thirties and been injury prone for a while now, for someone who relied almost exclusively on his pace that is not a good combination

Yes but i think that HQ knowing that bad weather was coming should have rescheduled it. I can understand Tipp position but it was too late in the day at that stage.

Down were beaten the weekend so all isnt lost yet. We can win the home games. It was a loss on a horrible shítty weekend where hours of travelling were involved. Admittedly the toughest challenge to come in Thurles against Cork under lights on the 23rd but its not beyond us to get a win. Then we have Longford, Offaly, and Leitrim. 3 very winnable games.

Derry still have to go to Cork. Down are probably the team who have a better run in from here

HQ have no role, unless they are cancelling all matches across the board which was never going to happen. If all games were called off 24 hours in advance because of a weather warning we would never get any competition finished ever.

Realistically we are miles behind Cork, we are averaging 9 pts per game and can't manage to keep 15 players on the field at any one time, Cork are averaging double that. Division 3 is our level right now, Cork are a Division 2 team at the very least.

The storm was warned three days in advance at least
