JP Blue and JP Special Blue

Hi, I don't smoke myself, but my brother smokes John Player Blue. When flying on Ryanair these days on flights to non EU countries they are selling John Player Special Blue which comes in a lighter shade of blue carton. What's the difference? The Tar, Nicotine and CO listed on cartons are the same.

There is a difference in taste.
At first, I didn't think there was, but there is.
The biggest issue for me was that I couldn't get a drag off them no matter how hard I pulled.
