If you can build Ikea furniture you can build a PC. You'll get way more for your money but if you want to go prebuilt; I just did a quick check and MESH are still in business. Very customisable systems I speced out a i5 Skylake with a 390 came to £1089 + whatever delivery to Ireland is. You can play with the specs to get it within budget.

I used to work for them and they, along with all the other UK builders used to sell review machines at very close to cost. Now by the time the review machines have hit the website as in the above link they're usually a bit older, best to get the out of the UK PC mags if possible. They usually wont customise as they don't really want you buying them but you get the occasional bargain.

Does anyone else have any suggestions? I honestly don't know where to start.

i5 4xxx or i5 6xxx are the processors you should be after, with a GTX 970 or R9 390 graphics card. Anything less and you're being robbed for €1200 or so.

TerrorFirmer and Bloodbath might have a few PCs in your price range on adverts

Thanks Digital Solitude. I had a look at those users adverts, nothing really jumped out at me.

I was looking at PC Specialist. How good are these guys? Would you recommend a setup for me? I'm sorry for asking but I am completely lost.

    I'm based in Navan mate.

I know that it seems everytime someone comes on here everyone goes build it yourself.

I had the bright idea as there are so many people great at specing out builds that I'd try giving out pre-built specs. Honestly though they are such poor value for money. Is there no PC shop in Navan that would charge you a couple of hours labour to assemble some parts you brought in. People here would spec the machine for you and tell you where to order.

Or a mate with regular motor function, its really no big deal.

I ask as a local boardsie may be willing to help out.

I'll have a look at dabs for a PC

This one ain't too badly priced, is a nice PC.

    CPU €175
    2tb HDD €70
    Motherboard €60
    GPU €220
    PSU €50
    Case €30
    RAM €50
    Total €650

That's as a self build, so its not bad value at all. It'll play any game you throw at it, no bother

I saw that one too, so maybe PCspecilist wasn't such a bad option to look at?

PC Specialists i5 machine start at €1100. With a 370 in it, no comparison

Must be a dabs, bought loads of them special as the dabs machine is also a PCspeclist machine. We really need a decent boutique builder here. Cant you and Terror go into business? :pac:

I had a look at that one on dabs. Looks good for my budget. Would I be able to run games at max settings with it?

Where are you sourcing the parts for a self build option?

    It depends on the resolution. 1080p near enough. 1440p (e.g. 2560 x 1440) no :( 4K defo not.

I'd have no issue with buying, building and shipping for anybody but I'm a student so I've no disposable cash to get a business off the ground so I'd need payment upfront.

Can't advertise myself here obviously either

It'd run your sims no bother, GTAV or Crysis would be high

Strongly considering that one from dabs. All I need now is a decent monitor, keyboards and mouse :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,934 ✭✭✭MarkAnthony

Just grab any old KB and mouse and a HOTAS (google it :P) for sims.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,031 ✭✭✭Slippin Jimmy

When I get home from work today I am am going to order that machine off dabs. Thanks to digital solitude and markanthony for their help.

Enjoy! I helped a mate of mine build a similar rig with a 960 (Thats the video card and is what determines how good the PC is at games) and he thinks it's the dog's bollocks.

Try and grab yourself a decent 'gaming' 1080p monitor and I think you'll be delighted.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,031 ✭✭✭Slippin Jimmy

I'm going to have a look for a monitor this evening. Think a 1080p is a must.

You won't find anything lower these days, higher might over tax the GPU in the system you're looking at. For sims a 21:9 2560x1080 would be lovely. There is one one adverts but the guy is looking for silly money (€400). Note you might have to bugger about with some games to get them to run in Ultra wide formats like 21:9. If you're not happy doing that go with a standard 1080p monitor with a low latency like 5ms or below.
