    1. What is your budget? 600 but I'm flexible

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? No

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? I have a ssd and drive for storage. Have a Psu and blu ray drive also.

    5. Do you need a monitor? No

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? Yes I need a mouse and keyboard and also s soundcard I would think.

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes but I'd rather not have to

    8. How can you pay? Any way

    9. When are you purchasing? Soon as

On the sound thing, I have a surround sound setup so would be great if I could connect it up. Amp supports Dolby 5.1 and DTS, can take a coax or optical digital input.

Any help or advice is much appreciated.

It was a q6600 CPU, Asus p5q pro and 4gb of ram. Graphics card was an ati 6000 series I think.

    Sound

    8gb RAM €50
    i5 4460 €175
    Board €50
    GTX960 €220
    Case €50
    Total €550

    Spend rest on a kbm

Reuse RAM if you need to fit a soundcard.

Cheers for that. Any recommendations of specific parts to get and where to buy them?

The old ram is ddr2 unfortunately.

Sorry my mistake, thought it was DDR3 with the 6600

BitFenix Neos case, most of the electronics are pretty similar between manufacturers

Unless you're lucky and have just the right components (Microsoft haven't figured out the specifics yet) Windows 10 will not play game audio in surround. VLC and MPC will passthrough to the receiver, games won't.

Thanks. So a 50 euro motherboard would be fine yeah?

Would that build give me 1080p gaming with all high settings?

Unless the soundcard needs a certain slot

    Yeah High settings easy

Fair few bad reviews of that case.

Got my parts and put it together grand but I've run into some issues. I've bought a relatively cheap 4k TV and I want to watch some true 4k content on it.

When I set the display settings on the pc to 4096 x 2160 there is lag on the screen but the tv does detect the input as 4096 x 2160, however when I launch the game dead space the highest resolution it offers me is 1080, also the TV detects the game a lower res.

The card I got is an amd r9 380, so I tried setting gpu scaling. This actually removed the lag but the max res in display settings is 3840 x 2160. The TV detects this signal as 1080 though, however when I launch dead space the max res I can set is 3840 x 2160.

Any clues? I'm hoping it's not a problem with the TV.

    3840 x 2160 is 4K resolution?

    3840 x 2160 is 4K resolution?

Well even when its set to that resolution with GPU scaling the TV thinks its only 1080p that it's receiving.
