I could see the slight attraction for Mourinho taking over at Dortmund, his ego would relish the chance to topple Bayern, plus he has yet to manage in the Bundesliga.

I could also see the attraction for Mourinho in making the most of his time away from the game. This would include going to see football matches, making the most of his status and taking clubs up on their invitations I imagine. From BVB's point of view: "Wunderbar, he accepted our invitation, there is a chance he will sign for us!" From Jose's point of view: "Baby, I would love to go shopping for new faucets for the guest bathroom with you this Saturday, why not, I am on sabbatical. Oh damn, eh, I forget that I must honour special invitation to the special one from Dortmund.

Now though, I'm thinking of those reports from recent days about Mourinho to United already being a done thing, and he will be out scouting players for the next few months starting today at the Dortmund game.

Ah this is going to be pure torture until it reaches whatever conclusion.

We are due a win against Chelsea, whether that is tomorrow who know.

Chelsea are hard to beat under Hiddink.

Hopefully Rooney scores and Mata has another good game.

No that loophole was closed; would be 5 teams in the champs league next year

What happens if Chelsea win the European Cup and say United in 5th win the uefa?

DiMarzio had this to say, would be pretty interesting.

    http://gianlucadimarzio.com/en/eng/atletico-madrid-director-berta-could-join-mourinho-at-manchester-united/
Sporting director Andrea Berta has made a name for himself at Atletico Madrid after previously working at Parma and Genoa. The former banker has formed a strong partnership with Simeone as a well as director Jose' Caminero, they took the club from the relegation zone to the la Liga title in just three years.. Berta has shown good attention to detail, professionalism and the ability to make the right choices- he wasn't afraid to replace Courtois with Oblak as an example. Berta has become the most respected Italian director in Europe, and the Premier League has set their sights on him.

While the biggest milestones in his career have taken place in Spain, Berta could be leaving Madrid for England, where he could partner with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United. The Red Devils have identified Mourinho as their top choice, there isn't much room for discussions or alternatives, the negotiation has been on going for some time. The plan seems to be set, the signature is expected to be for next season, as the former Chelsea manager doesn't want to start right away. Berta has a good relationship with Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes, the possibility that he will join Manchester United is concrete- he will give his answer in the next few weeks. Manchester United is looking to get back on track, Mourinho and Berta could be the central figures in their new project.

Pretty testy press conference from LVG

His football isn't exactly pretty but his utter disdain for football journalists is a joy to watch.

Shame his English isn't stronger, then he could properly tear them to shreds.

Out of the last 19 shots on target 12 have been goals.

That's far from a fantastic shot stopper :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,406 ✭✭✭Korat

I really like LVG but the football is more important than what he does off the pitch.

Same with Mourinho for me, I'll forgive a lot of cuntology if he makes the team successful and entertaining again

    Two things...

    1. It's nearly all speculation, though that could be a translation thing. "This may happen" type of stuff.
    2. Its on DiMarzio's site, but the author seems to be David Amoyal....that said, DiMarzio's official twitter account has also been retweeting it.

Apparently, Berta is the guy in charge of their non-Spanish transfers which looks like a list with far more hits than misses. Would be an interesting appointment if there's any weight to it.

Just read this great tribute on fb.

    THE FLOWERS OF MANCHESTER ~
One cold and bitter Thursday in Munich, Germany,
Eight great football stalwarts conceded victory,
Eight men will never play again who met destruction there,
The flowers of English football, the flowers of Manchester
Matt Busby’s boys were flying, returning from Belgrade,
This great United family, all masters of their trade,
The pilot of the aircraft, the skipper Captain Thain,
Three times they tried to take off and twice turned back again.
The third time down the runaway disaster followed close,
There was slush upon that runaway and the aircraft never rose,
It ploughed into the marshy ground, it broke, it overturned.
And eight of the team were killed as the blazing wreckage burned.
Roger Byrne and Tommy Taylor who were capped for England’s side.
And Ireland’s Billy Whelan and England’s Geoff Bent died,
Mark Jones and Eddie Colman, and David Pegg also,
They all lost their lives as it ploughed on through the snow.
Big Duncan he went too, with an injury to his brain,
And Ireland’s brave Jack Blanchflower will never play again,
The great Matt Busby lay there, the father of his team
Three long months passed by before he saw his team again.
The trainer, coach and secretary, and a member of the crew,
Also eight sporting journalists who with United flew,
and one of them Big Swifty, who we will ne’er forget,
the finest English ‘keeper that ever graced the net.
Oh, England’s finest football team its record truly great,
its proud successes mocked by a cruel turn of fate.
Eight men will never play again, who met destruction there,
the flowers of English football, THE FLOWERS OF MANCHESTER ...

It's the other way around. The back four have no confidence in him. This makes them take a lot more risks and you get punished then.

The CBs and Ming are a bag of nerves at the minute.

Moreno, Lovren and Sakho are an accident waiting to happen. The only defender that has been playing well on a regular basis is Clyne.
Sakho got a free pass from so many for so long that it got comical, he has some good qualities but he consistently brainfarts his way to giving up chances. It looks like more are realising this now.

Anyway, that's enough Liverpool for today :pac:

Certainly interesting speculation that United are looking to appoint a Technical/Sport Director of some kind. Its something I have been arguing for a long time that we need, so I would delighted to see it happen.

To have someone that can concentrate 100% on the administration side of the football club, would be great.

Don't know enough about this Berta guy to comment on him specifically. On the face of it Atletico have been doing brilliant with a great mix of astute buys and young players, but this guy has only been in the job at Atletico for a relatively short time so I don't know that much of the credit for where they are now in comparison to a few years ago can go to him (as opposed to the person in his role before him).

As I have said, I don't know enough about him to comment so I am obviously not saying he is poor at his job or indeed brilliant at it. I simply don't know.

That United are (possibly) looking at him for such a role though would be pleasing.

The lads posted the average player positions for the last few Liverpool games in the super thread last week and the amount of ground Shako has to cover is ridiculous.

Moreno average position is past the half way line so he is leaving acres of space for counter attacks and other teams are rightly attacking that space and pulling Shako out to cover that ground.

I'm not to sure about Lovern. He's been injured an awful lot this year(went off again yesterday) so its hard to know with him.

I think if you bring in a strong commanding keeper a lot of the defensive problems will ease as they will organise the back four much better (look at Cech at Arsenal).

Saying that I'd like us to go buy a CB who's better than what we have and would be an instant upgrade.

For to long now we've bought players who are decent squad players but not really any who are a clear step a head of what we already have in that position.

Look at yourselfs. You need a DM so you went and bought Schneiderlin. Straight into the first team when fit.

We need to get out of cloud cuckoo land, Top 4 will not be happening and we don't deserve it. Arsenal to win by 3 or 4 today.

I'll stay in realistland. I think we'll draw with Chelsea and Arsenal will win cosily, leaving us 6 points off Man City. Not the kind of position i'd like to be in when chasing a top 4 spot.
But hey-ho i should probably say no bother to us to get top 4 it's the league we're after, a ten game winning streaks easy enough for us we are Man Utd and the league's still in reach :rolleyes:

He'll have to be. If Mourinho is going to be United manager he is going to have to be on his best behaviour cause there's no way United will let him away with all the sh1t he pulls.

They should ban him from talking about referees as a clause in his contract. His conspiracy theorys are embarassing.

I dont know enough about the DoF role to pretend i know how it works but id have thought the manager has final say on puchases but the DoF does all the hard work by identifying players and being involved in transfers. In theory it should be a massive benefit.

Its something we desperately need as we dont seem to be able to complete a transfer anymore unless its silly money.

I would have thought this too, Though I think the scouting department would Identify the targets and pass them on to the DOF who lays the groundwork and then the manager has the final say. The DOF would deal with all the negotiations and the like. It would also free up Woody to concentrate on the rest of the Club.
