Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. So heres a question. Where was Varela today?

We are all about the player development are we not? I mean, thats why Varela and Jackson were chucked into the deep end for a crunch CL game, wasn't it?

Yet Varela didn't feature before that game and now once again a winger is selected ahead of him at full back, so whats the deal? Is he worth a spot or is he not?

Its decisions like this that the prove the lie of Van Gaal developing young players, there is no cohesive development plan there, instead its just a bunch of throwing players at the wall and seeing what sticks.

Also, the Schneiderlin decision is just the latest in a long long line of baffling Van Gaal selections. Stats show we are better with him in the team, yet for the tenth time he sits on the bench as an unused spectator.

Van Gaal has apparently said at the post match press conference that one option may be for him to resign.

LVG is probably gone at this point, and there probably won't be too many shedding tears about it.

However the players should be ashamed of themselves because there are too many (almost all) of them not putting in a shift.

Bad times because I actually thought I saw green shoots of growth this year, Martial and Liverpool game being the highlights.

General results, boring play, Shaw injured, Rooney and Memphis have been the real low points for me.

    Jose....
Bring in Jose till the end of the season to pull us out of this rut. Then get rid of him. He's too volatile, has no development policy, plays sh1te uninspiring football and he'd probably try to buy Costa and Terry. Then break the bank to get Simeone and a good translator.
LVG might have been OK for a while but he was being touted as possible Spurs manager before he came our way and tbh that's about the level I'd have left him at.

So you freely seem to admit that bringing in jose would bring short term success (maybe United in next seasons CL).

There's no way Simeone would take the job.

He was offered it already, after Fergie, and turned it down.

Mourinho is the only manager around with a reputation for winning things who is prepared to take the job.

Everyone else is steering well clear.

Has to be Jose. I can't see Pep coming to manage a EL team next season and I don't think Giggs would bring us CL football next season.

Agreed, some of his decision making is truly bizarre. Taking off Mata against Wolfsburg for Powell of all people who hadn't played in over a year really takes the biscuit. Pereira, who has made a few appearances for United this season (and scored in one too) remained on the bench. Baffling.

So much going round, but coupled with the comments on BBC that he feels he has the support of the board, I think we'll see a "Parting by mutual consent" situation pretty soon.

Yeah I have seen some quotes allegedly from him but with no concrete reporting. Only reporting what Daniel Taylor has posted.

Paddy Power have apparently paid out on LVG to be next manager sacked.

Who was the interviewer? Shreeves, I'm guessing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,369 ✭✭✭Rossi IRL

He has to go, what more can be said.

Lou Macari made a point on the MUTV phone in show there that the players are not being trained hard enough. He said that he watches them train and it just inst hard training.

Not that im a fan of bankoks fallaini agenda but Fellaini is getting on my nervs now, he has missed a good few chances like the one he missed today recently and he just adds nothing to the team.

January new manager and some new signings if possible.

A proper left back would be nice for a start.

Then break the bank either in January or the summer for Kane and Mahrez and go back to playing 442.

The interview was pretty straight; asking him about the poor preformances, was he the right man to lead the club, did he have the support of the board. The stare seemed to be an anger with being asked those questions.

    From the BBC:

More contempt for the questioner (as he's media) than anger.

Probably will lose to Chelsea so, which means the club delaying getting rid of him will cost us dearly.

Yeah LVG will be getting his P45 sooner rather than later.

Personally id appoint Giggs on an interim basis until the end of the season and see how he gets on, if it doesn't work out id go for Pep Guardiola who will be available then.

    No guarantee.

Van Gaal will be manager for the Chelsea match.

A win there and United will keep him.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,075 ✭✭✭IamtheWalrus

Not a hope he'll resign. Why would he? Mutual consent means the boards asks him to resign.

If Utd had intentions of moving for Pep they should have the minutes he announced he was leaving Munich. His new employer will be sorted out well before the end of the season(if it hasn't been already).

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,406 ✭✭✭Korat

I don't see Giggs stepping in until the end of the season improving things. The players haven't down tools out of resentment for Van Gaal, there's been no suggestion of it anyway, in the way Chelsea players did with Mourinho. They're not suddenly going to start putting an effort in when he's gone and if Giggs was a talismanic inspiration we might have seen something of it by now.

I think they need a fresh face who they fear and respect.

I think Louis believes he can't turn it around and will resign by mutual consent. Not just the players lacking confidence.

I have a feeling he'll be gone by the Chelsea game, with Giggs taking the one game, and then announcing his replacement afterwards.

Wouldn't be shocked if they let him see out the Chelsea game and then off him though. But the quotes going round don't paint the picture of someone who thinks they'll be working at the club much longer.

They're all stupid questions and it's something that Shreves specialises in. It's a stupid scenario as there is no way a manager can be honest.

Most people would react the same under the circumstances. Post match interviews are nothing but boring nonsense.

    What about half-time interviews?

I'd love to see van Gaal doing those.

Most of the time there are boring af. But they can tell something about the situation and if the manager is under fire.

When asked about assurances from the board by the paper press lvg said that its not always the board that has to sack the manager he says that he can quit himself it's something he will talk to Woodward about and not the press.

Sure some United fans didn't want Kane in the summer, not that he was leaving Spurs.

Cant see how anyone can defend LVG at this stage. 18 months of spoof and not an inch of progress. If Moyes ad been given this length of time and 250m to spend he couldn't have us any worse off.
