Closing absolutely everything on Christmas day (emergency services and a few hotels etc excepted) and pubs on good Friday. Is this just an Irish thing?

People of Irish descent in Cyrprus?

The point is these rows over land happen everywhere there are small but widespread land ownership.

They were all Turkish Cypriots from the self style Republic of Ambelikou in the western part of Cyprus which was the Irish A/O at that time.
(I doubt any of the poor lads ever heard of John B. Keane)

The first thing that crosses your mind when you see a "Caution Icy Roads" sign is I wonder how long that's been left there (seeing the sign in June).

    Surfers and bodyboarders get along.
In other countries they're arch rivals...

Not at all. I'm here in The Netherlands and they've all but rolled up the streets.

Tiles on the bathroom floor is an Irish thing? I thought that was universal.

If anything, Ireland seems to be one of the few places where freaks people put carpet on the floor in bathrooms.

Nope, my friend in the UK has this.

It's a fairly old house, and it doesn't look like the landlord will get the bathroom carpet up anytime soon, but I can confirm that there's at least one house in the UK with carpet in their bathroom :D

The only thing I can think of that is uniquely Irish is putting the pan in the press with the other messages. That would have to be explained/translated anywhere else in the world.

Oh yes. And 'going for the messages'.. wonder if this is said elsewhere?

    Thank the bus driver..

Nope. Done here in Engerland too, and in Scotchland. Don't know why they say 'Thank you bus driver' over here though. I'm pretty sure the bus drivers know what they do for a living.

Interesting, thanks. Have lived in Scotland years, and travelled in many parts, and never heard it :D

I've now googled it and it does seem to be much more of a Scottish thing.

They still don't know what a bold child is though - one who doesn't put the food back in the press.

I lived in Aberdeen for years, had friends from Lewis who said it all the time. First time I heard it I thought they were taking the piss.

Tractors on the motorway driven by a 16 year old with a provisional licence pulling a fully loaded 40ft trailer at 35mph with no fear or chance of being prosecured for it.

    Teaching Irish in schools.

Done optionally in NI and it's very similar to the republic with Welsh in Wales and Basque in the part of the Basque Country that's in Spain
