They weren't lying when they said it would be bad from 9-12 tonight. Its really after picking up here in macroom. So thankful we are up a hill near the town. All roads surrounding are flooded. Tomorrow will be interesting. The carrigadhroid reservoir was so low this afternoon couldn't believe it. Doesn't seem to have helped the flooding situation tho.

I think that 68-kt gust at Belmullet was of a convective nature. Currently heavy rain, 2.7 km visibility, overcast at 1100 ft.

Serious all over cork with many roads impassable. What are they reporting from galway for on main news. It's all going on in cork ffs

Agreed, we seem to be getting off lightly in Galway on this one even though rainfall amounts have increased in the last hour (0.4mm to 2.6mm).

Met Éireann is considering naming a second storm which is due to lash Ireland immediately after the deep Atlantic depression known as Storm Frank clears tomorrow.Storm Gertrude, as the second storm would be known, could mark the seventh major weather event since the inception of the new naming system for winter storms in Ireland and the UK.

Siobhan Ryan showed much of Galway under the 40-70 mm zone by noon tomorrow. Really can't see that happening away from high ground tbh.

Home Rain gauge here in Lee valley area says 71mm of rain, no real let up. Know of a people who had to work today in the city, it's gonna be a difficult drive home to areas off the main roads.

That part floods regularly enough,it's nearly under the river there.Handy enough to bypass that and get around it.

Some very strong gusts now in Lee Valley near Macroom. Be amazed if there aren't a lot of trees knocked if it keeps up with the ground saturated.

Vagar airport in the Faroe Islands reports both 10-metre winds and winds at 850 feet.

They are receiving similar winds to us at the surface but the 850-ft wind has just jumped to 74 gust 94 knots. This gives an idea of the windshear involved in these systems and the challenges involved in landing an aircraft.

2136 update from met 29 December

    Today
Extremely windy with gale force southerly winds for a time and widespread heavy rain with flooding in places. Winds moderating to some extent later tonight and rain giving way to showers in more western areas. Overnight lows of 4 to 9 degrees Celsius.

    Tomorrow

It will become extremely windy again in the morning, with strong to gale force southerly winds, which will veer west to northwest and give some severe gusts in places, especially in exposed hilly and coastal areas. But the winds will moderate considerably through the afternoon and early evening. There will be some further rain or showers also, heavy at times and with some hail or sleet in parts of Connacht and west Ulster. Cold with afternoon temperatures of 5 to 8 Celsius.

At least most of those properties will be dry enough if they've put a good amount of sandbags out, I'd hate to be in any place at the bottom of that hill though!
