    Hi,

So i blew the woofers on my stereo.
That coupled with my kids enjoying popping in the tweeters, mean new speakers are required.

Satellite speakers are unaffected (and unused). So i was thinking, can i bridge the output to the r/l main speakers with the r/l output to the satellites and up the power to the new speakers?

The speakers mostly will be used for bass heavy music, Jamie XX, Suuns, Moderat etc...
I've attached the specs for the unit, don't really want to replace the stereo, as i love it.

Cheers for any advice/recommendations you have on offer..

    ITB.

seems cant attach, so heres the link..

Just having a look at your site, Warfdale Diamond 220's look like they'd fit the bill..

What's the bass like out of them? Or would you go for another pair in their price bracket?

Hi Into the blue, thanks for the post

The Wharfedale 220 would be quite a bassy speaker for a bookshelf and probably one of the best for that, but you will always be a bit limited in bass when going for bookshelf speakers.
Would floorstanders be too big or not suitable? maybe the likes of Mission MX3 - http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-201794-mx3i.aspx

would spikes be of any benefit in isolating bass from being transferred to my next door neighbour?

    Hi Into The Blue.

I suppose in a way they would if fitted to the bottom of the speaker lifting them from the ground would cause less vibration through the floor.
Moving them away from the wall and perhaps using the bungs in any bass ports would also help dampen the bass.

    Hi,

    Connected these today..
One speaker works till about 2, then cuts out.. Other one works till about 1 then cuts out.

I attached the amp specs in the first post, any ideas?

    Thanks.

To be honest it's hard to tell remotely but I'd have a few firm ideas!

The first and most likely issue is that your speaker cable is shorting somewhere and as you increase the volume the protection circuits are cutting in, from your description above that sounds the most likely issue - to cure this you would need to immediately disconnect the speakers to prevent any more damage, next, disconnect and examine carefully the speak cable to ensure there are no loose strands or nails etc shorting out the + & - strands .

Possibly a second reason could be dust in the volume pot on the amp, to effect a possible temporary fix on this you can spray switch contact spray into the volume pot and try to work the dust out by turning the pot up and down with the amp switched off of course!

The next possibility is the one you don't want to face and it's that the amp is faulty...

...but do try options one and two in the first instance and drop us a line with the outcome

    All looks good cable wise.

    Also no probs here..

Prior to purchasing the MX3’s, I borrowed speakers to test the stereo, and all ok..
Is there a chance that the speakers are too much of a drain on the amp?

Do the speakers look like a match for the amp specs linked to in my op?

    Thanks,

    Hi Intotheblue,

The amp in that model of technics is a 65w per channel, and the missions shouldn't be particularly hard to drive, so I don't think to be honest that they should be causing any issues. Have you tried another pair of speakers on it again since then?

    Cheers
    Brian

All seems grand when tested today.. so must have been a short somewhere?

Cheers for all the help, delighted with the speakers!

One last question, what's the difference between the mx3 and mx3i?

    Hi,

I had a look at your specs and while it should be possible to bridge your speakers together I wouldn't recommend it as there is more danger of blowing out your speakers.

If you like bass heavy music I would recommend the Monitor Audio Bronze 2 speakers at £279, they have 6.5" mid-range drivers which gives quite a good low frequency range as well as being quite composed on the bass. A lot of bookshelf speakers tend to be top heavy but these are very well balanced and very powerful. As well as that the tweeters are shielded so they can't be popped! They won the What Hifi Awards best speaker under £400 and nothing around them comes close.

Let me know what you think.

    Kind Regards

    Hi Into the Blue,

There are no differences in spec between the two models by the looks of it, same design, same frequency range and same power rating. I think Mission have just started a new production run and are re-labelling the speakers for the current run. They would sound pretty  much identical to the older models I would say.

    Kind Regards

    David

    Hi Into The Blue.

I have Checked here at this end and everything points to the correct speakers having been sent. Normally if something like this was to happen our stock would be wrong but everything ties up.

Does it say MX3i on the box or on the rear of the speakers?

    Again apologies for the hassle.

    Hi Into the Blue.

I have checked over the boxed ones here. On the Box it says MX3 but on the bar-code section on the side it should have MX3i on it.
The rear of the MX3i only says MX3 only also. (we took one out and checked.

Let me know what it says on the bar-code section of the box or pop me up a photo.
    Apologies for the hassle.

Boxes went with the recycling.. Sure if the mx3i says mx3 on the speaker, we can be sure it's right....

Thanks for all the support getting me up and running..

Super speakers, love them! I'll be back when funds permit to upgrade the amp :D

    Cheers!!
