Thanks to ger664 for pacing and entertaining the 4:00 group. I stuck with you until mile 20. Unfortunately I had a hamstring problem after that and I struggled for the last few miles. I finished my first marathon on 4:11:17.A small bit disappointed for not meeting my target but still delighted with finishing though. I thought the race was organised quite well. I availed of the early bird entry fee. A lot of room for improvement and hopefully the first of many marathons for me. Roll on DCM

I really enjoyed the run, and found the event very well organised from the Expo to the finish line and the medal mix up of last year,
It shows that the organisers listened to what was wrong and did something to correct,

The run itself, I struggled early on l, maybe I took on too much fluid prior but I had stops at 3 miles and 7 miles, so this was causing doubts as to my ability to last,
I was with the 4:30 pacers till around 12 miles and then I broke away and increased pace to just under the 10 min mark,

I ran mostly alone for the next few miles

As we were coming back into the city around the 20 mile mark I found the crowd really encouraging and supporting here, there was a real buzz in the atmosphere, and with that I was able to increase my pace slightly

I found the last 2/3 miles tough but kept going and was delighted to hit the finish line in 4:15:33, absolutely chuffed.

Ger664, Thanks for the pacing up to when I went ahead, my own fault but I definitely should have held back, you're banter and advice was great. Neilthefunkeone who I mentioned earlier now I know you name, thanks again, the company really helped.
For a second full marathon I found it nice up, the hill at Thormond Park was a killer though and a few sections were narrow / congested enough but an enjoyable morning was definitely had.
Two lessons learnt this time around; watch my pace a lot closer & skip the pints the night before!

How would the course be described compared to other marathons? Hilly? Flat? Mild? Challenging??

It wasn't as flat as I remembered it but it is still is a perfectly reasonable course. There are no big climbs at all, though what the little ones feel like after over 20 miles might be a different matter,

My strava file for Limerick shows 531 feet of elevation change, compared to 569 feet for Dublin (2014).

Dermot Kearns did a great job getting the sub 3 crowd around the course.Non stop advice about climbs coming up,getting fuel on board, breathing, etc. Was my first race since Dublin marathon so wasn't too sure I had a sub 3 in me.Glad now I decided to go for it.Stayed with the 3 hour crew untill mile 24 and then made the decision to leg it home as fast as I could. Chip time 2:57:46.Delighted and surprised with the p.b.Big shout out to a few boardies for support out on the course. And well done to all who ran.

Mental note to self, a marathon the w/end after a marathon isn't a great idea especially if you stupidly decide to run with the sub-3 group for no other reason that you've met the pacer (Dermot) a few times before :o

Won't bore you with the details but let's say the second half was 'challenging' and leave it at that! ~2 mins slower than the previous Sun in Leipzig but an order of magnitude more painful.

Congrats on all the great performances mentioned above :)

I had a brief chat with him afterwards and you would think he was just after doing a 6 mile jog.A lad next to me at 23 miles dropped a gel,Dermot just went back and picked it up for him.class act.I must thank him properly when I decide to do a local race, and bump into him.

Ran full took off like a bat out a hell.
10k at 45mins, half Marathon at 1:45. Then hell caught up with me around 27k legs locked up. Torture for last 15k. Ran most of it but really suffered. Came in 4:10. Biggest smile getting my medal.
Bhglr I'll be back next yr.😀

Took a few pics when watching at the 3 mile mark Sunday morning. Was just flicking through them there, and had forgotten about it but should say kudos to the guy who ran the full with his arm in a sling. Fair play. Anyone ever do this? Can't imagine the awkwardness of it.

At the 24 hrs in Turin last year one of the Taiwanese runners didn't just have his arm in a sling, he had a full shoulder cast! He still ran over 76 km before giving up.

Saw him at the start line, fair play to him hope he finished it without too much hassle. Was looking through some pics on the ilovelimerick fb page and saw a guy crossing the finish line with the worst bleeding nipples I've ever seen. He had a white top on too which made it look worse, poor fella.

For anyone thinking of running in Limerick next year there's a 15% discount code doing the rounds - BHGLR17. Only good 'til midnight tonight (4th) it says but worked for me this morning.

They normally have a few more codes knocking around closer to the event as well.
