Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How much would people be willing to pay for a streaming service for games like this.

The FAI could do it for free on YouTube and after a while make money off that without costing the viewer anything.
LAFC are streaming all their games on YouTube this year for example and the mls and German league both have very active YouTube channels with goals and other clips on it. All vey basic stuff that help grow the leagues for pennies that the FAI could easily do but aren't bothered

They streamed the presidents cup final last year and it's like they went 'That'll do them now for a few years'. The whole number of viewer things is the chicken and the egg thing as well though, can't grow broadcasting of the game if you rarely show it.

Personally I think you need to grow the attendances in the ground first and make the product on the TV more attractive. Grounds like Dalymount and Richmond park particularly with low attendances look pretty bad on TV. The camera location on turners Cross doesn't show the ground in it's best light. Tallaght and Galway to name but 2 look well on tv.

Derry vs Dundalk on March 2nd not being shown on tv.

Again no forward thinking from RTE or Eir Sport on this occasion. First game back at hopefully a much better Brandywell, huge crowd & 2 excellent sides.

I agree that improving the LOI grounds is badly needed.

The fact Oriel Park will not be refurbished anytime soon despite Dundalk's European money shows this won't happen at many grounds anytime soon.

Don't think Derry will be back to the Brandywell for that game.

How much would you be willing to pay is as good an answer to that question.

Me personally, I wouldn’t have paid to watch it but others might eg Cork fans who couldn’t make the trip. I wouldn’t have watched it for free either as I wasn’t at home.

The last FAI stream I watched was the women’s international against Holland. There was a counter on the screen showing how many people were watching. A couple of hundred at most.

How many would have watched a stream on Sunday? The FAI would have figures from last year. Maybe those figures informed their decision not to show it.

I don’t think you could charge people too much. A token payment if anything at all. As someone else said it would depend on the quality.

For example GAAGo charge €10 a game outside Ireland but that is broadcast quality. They’re taking the feed from whatever RTÉ or Sky are broadcasting. There’s no option to watch games that aren’t being shown live on tv.

Armagh GAA used to stream club championship games. They charged £1 a game. Now they’re not making a pound because accepting online payments costs money.

The main advantage of charging a token amount like that is that you can gauge how many people would pay for the service.

Dundalk due to announce the signing of Sam Byrne and a center half today. Hopefully the center half is decent after the horror show in the second half the other day

    LOI transfers saying Dan Cleary.

Not impressed with him when I saw him against Longford.

Sam Byrne could be a very good signing.

That can be true yes, however with other sports RTE have very happily shown, the attendances can also be quite low and played in bigger stadiums any atmosphere has sounded hollow on tv, womens rugby for example.

On another note, I see the League are using the 'Greatest League in the World' in their marketing and a new podcast named after it as well. Something seems wrong about them using that.

Been playing u23s with Everton who have a very good team.

But not playing any 1st team football would be a worry. Very highly rated though.
Interesting to see how he does.

Rte appear to be showing women's & under 20's rugby to fill the void as apart from the November friendlies they show **** all of the goys unless they are in court.

    Bohs
    Sligo
    Bray
    Limerick

Limerick's problem may be that Bray's proximity to Dublin allows them to strengthen in the summer transfer window in a way that we will not.

Without an asterisk for Bray, I think Limerick are in trouble. We have too many 'might get back into form' players, too many 'young and might really improve' players, too many 'might get another decent season out of them' players, too many untested players. Even if some of those players actually do what we hope they will do, some won't, and the squad is hopelessly thin in terms of replacements. And we don't have a manager with the experience to sort out our problems either.

With Galway signing Danny Furlong, I'd make them favourites for the First Division.

He's been training with Bohs since being released by Leeds, but 'allegedly' bohs haven't a pot to p*ss in with respect to offering him a deal hence the delay.
I suspect if money can be sourced from somewhere he'll go to bohs, he'll get more game time there anyway. By all accounts he looks a tidy player so could be a good signing for whomever gets him.

I'd think you and the poster you quoted mean Eoghan as opposed to Eoin Stokes. Eoghan played for Rovers in a friendly against Brentford 'B' recently and his brother Shane was/is with Rovers U19's.

Our budget was used up, but then Ryan Swan did his cruciate so we need another striker. It's a case of trying to find the money somewhere.

Saw Waterford's 3 friendlies at RSC.

    - Hery is a superb signing. Akinade will cause alot of problems to any defence.
    - Style of play is weird. In spells good passing football then resort the hoof balls to Akinade.
    - Puri,O'Halloran & Daly not going to be good enough to create many chances. Need Kasmi to get fit & hope he can deliver some creativity.
    - Look a bit dodgy at the back in full back area's especially. Kavanagh if he starts at RB will be destroyed as will McClean. Feely very good athlete but very raw & may be best as a winger.

I can't see Waterford finishing in the top 6. Inexperienced manager as well. May get some good esults at home as the RSC should have huge attendances.

Was impressed with Cabinteely. Lots of pace in there side they will surprise many in the 1st division.

I can see there being very little between 5th and 8th tbh.

The way I see things going:

Cork and Dundalk shoot out for the title
Rovers qualify for europe comfortably, but title challenge falls short going into the last few weeks.
Limerick and Bray take the bottom two slots by a significant margin.
I think Derry will take 4th, but could easily get sucked into a dogfight with Pats, Waterford, Bohs and Sligo.

Probably will be way off the mark mind you :D

Waterford won the First Division at a canter and they've strengthened with Premier Division experience. They'll finish upper mid table in my opinion.

Pats were poor last season but there is quality there. They've also added Madden, Toner, Keegan and Doona. If the latter three find form they could push for Europe.

    Derry could surprise people.

Kept McEneff,McDermott & Curtis. McDonagh & Rory Hale good signings but have lost some experience.
Back at the Brandywell too on an articficial surface that they will train on during the week.

Something that puzzles a lot of us. Maybe players looking for mad money now there are new owners (or knowing that at this late hour Dundalk really want/ need them ?)
