I forgot that one! I can confirm that using an OPK as a pregnancy test around when you'd usually be expecting your period, does work. Great if you've heaps of them and only a few of the pregnancy ones.

But it doesn't work the other way around - pregnancy tests wont detect LH hormone of ovulation.

Day 22 today so nearly there with the big long wait and yesterday / today feel exhausted, headaches stomach cramps etc. Hate that paranoia & debate going on in my head wondering am I pregnant or is it that bug that everyone seems to have... I keep telling myself its a bug anyway. Will wait to test until actual day AF is supposed to arrive (day 28)...

Anyone else experiencing terrible cramps. I've positive opk, well flashing smiley still after 6 days. The cramps today are horrible, can't remember them ever being this bad!!

I'm feeling very strange, pretty much the same symptoms I had very early in pregnancy with my son, but trying not to get my hopes up too much just in case. It's another week until I can test! Can't stand the waiting!! I'm really congested and getting a cough but don't want to take sudofed or the like in case I am pregnant.

Nightmare waiting. I don't know when I'm dpo as I thought I ovulated st the weekend as that's the first day opk was flashing but with the cramps today I'm wondering am I ovulating today?
    Hope your feeling better soon.

They need to make a test that say's "you are ovulating!" just to cut out confusion. I think if it's a flashing smiley it means high fertility as opposed to peak, which is when the smiley stays on the whole time. Are you temping as well?

Your on to a million euro idea! I was sure I ovulated st the weekend but these cramps must be it! I was doubled over earlier! Not a hope of dtd! I'm not temping but might look into next month

I found out I was pregnant with my little boy using an ovulation test. Had no idea I was pregnant as thought we hadn't dtd enough that month. I used it as it was the last one left & I wasn't sure if they were working for me. Smiley face popped up and I thought they must be a dodgy batch as I was due my period so couldn't be ovulating!
I had a smear test done today & getting bloods done in the morning with GP just to make sure all is looking good if I get pregnant soon. I'm starting ttc after next cycle & currently on CD17 so on the countdown!

  • Registered Users Posts: 731 ✭✭✭StarBright01

Does anyone know when is the earliest day you can take a pregnancy test. My cycle is normally 28 days. I'm on day 23 however I'm extremely irritable (which is not fun!) and have a few other symptoms. I heard taking it too early can show negative, but just want to find out either way...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,513 ✭✭✭✭Lucyfur

The First Response test cliams to give a result 6 days early. Or 2 blood tests spaced out over 48 hours to check your hCG levels :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 260 ✭✭Scousemouse83

Well, day 7 of flashing smiley faces!!! Nearly feel they are mocking me! Haven't a clue what's going on!! Or when to dtd! Very confusing!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 229 ✭✭geez

Has anyone ever got no smiley faces? I seemed to be getting a Lh surge on the boots own cheapie ones. Tmi but I'm sure af in 7 days and I have cm the last two or three. Anyone else have this or maybe I am ovulating really late all my clearblue sticks are gone!

Just have sex every second day. Sperm can survive a few days so every second day will ensure there is always sperm to meet the egg when you do ovulate.

After regular 28-29 day cycles for 9 months, and having only started TTC in feb, my period finally arrived... 12 days late.

I'm so annoyed at my body for suddenly deciding to be a little bitch and ovulating at weird times, just when we start TTC.

So I've gone online and order about 25,000 OPKs and am going to start peeing on sticks like a mad thing.

That said, we need to wait until April or May now because I'm going off to do some charity work in Kenya in the coming few weeks, and my doctor told me I'd be mad to start TTC before then incase I get malaria and die

AF arrived yesterday which I am actually positive about as a) its the 2nd 29 day cycle In a row so maybe my cycle is starting to stabilise since coming off the pill and b) it's arrival has meant my sinus infection has reduced down to a drippy nose and pressure in my ears so i slept for the first night in 4! Seeing the gynae on the 29th of this month so ttc intensity kinda took a back seat the last 2 months so once thats done and we know the situation we can see what way to move forward! This thread has been great just to hear other people are feeling the same as us and hearing people get their bfps is uplifting!

Finally the solid smiley today! After a week of the flashing face! Delighted! Well not for the pains but still, yay!

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has experienced a peak on the opk without having any high days first. Mine went from low for 3 days straight to peak. We are ttc for about four months but had stopped all contraception for two months before this. This is my first month using a kit as my cycles varies in length (from 25-32) but typically 27 days so we were worried we were missing the actual fertile period. Really hoping this is the month but just not sure if the kit is accurate.

Haven't had zero high days but have had just one before going straight to peak. Is it possible you missed the flashing smiley eg. If you're testing early in the morning, could it have gone to high later in the day and already on to peak by the time to tested the next day? Unless you were testing throughout the day maybe you could miss it. I don't think the "high" period lasts the same amount of time for everyone so maybe yours was quite short.

  • Registered Users Posts: 221 ✭✭Ruailebuile

Thanks. I didn't realise that or even think about that, I was testing in the morning and then after I got the result (empty circle) I ejected the stick. According to apps my fertile period was due to begin either Saturday or today so perhaps if I had tested on Friday afternoon or evening it may gone to high.
Also using preseed this month so double fingers crossed!

I use a combination of the clearblue OPK and cheapies so I can test later in the day as well as the morning and I do find the result can change during the day. I have a batch of very cheap Internet OPKs and also the Tesco own brand ones. I actually find the Tesco once quiet good. They are €9.98 for 7 so not v cheap but better than the CB ones. I only use the clearblue on the days Im expecting to get a high or peak as they are so expensive but I use the cheaper ones to check that my LH levels have dropped after peak as the smiley face remains for 2 days So that's no use for confirming when ovulation actually occurred as it always gives a 2 day window but I like to know the actual date the LH drops so I can more accurately estimate DPO. I also use cheapies in the days leading up to expected high days just in case I was to ovulate early and might miss it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 221 ✭✭Ruailebuile

That's a really good idea thanks. I wasn't expecting to get the peak yesterday so am going to test again tomorrow as the smiley face should be gone then. The clear blue one is so expensive so must definitely get some cheaper ones to supplement. Thanks again.

A bit dis-heartened now this morning as I thought was implantation bleeding yesterday as it was very light just a few barely noticable spots however today i'm wondering whether its a period or not as its quite a few drops today. I don't have period cramps which I normally do however & also it happened on day 25 (i'm normally a 28 day cycle) so it has come earlier than period. Whats weird is that with the past week I've had lots of pregnancy symptoms, nausea, feeling exhausted, irritable, bloating etc. This is the second time this has happened now too. Its just all so dis-heartening when you get so many symptoms and then Aunt Flo arrives. I was taking Evening Primrose Oil but after too much researching on Google I found out that this can be bad so going to stop taking it now for next month.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 455 ✭✭Jen44

I remember the first time I was trying I got symptoms every month bar the month I actually got pregnant!! That month I felt nothing so was sure I was out! Looking back the symptoms I thought were pregnancy were actually signs my period was coming and like I said I got none of the usually signs I had the month before!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 67 ✭✭Meubles

Finally positive opk! Think our timing has actually been good for the first time since we started I can see how they say it can take a few months as I'm only now figuring out my cycles. Also gave the preseed a go curious if it helps as I only ever get EWCM once. A question for those of you temping I'm still confused as to when you ovulate the day of temp rise or was it the day before? I know you need 3 consecutive days to confirm it. Fingers crossed and good luck!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 731 ✭✭✭StarBright01

Where do I get "preseed" can you get it in boots? I've heard so many people taking about it must give it a go. Also one of my friends last night told me that apparently eating pineapple cores can aid implantation. Has anyone ever heard of this?! Saw it here too http://natural-fertility-info.com/bromelain-pineapple-for-implantation.html

Same- really praying I'm pregnant- long time trying at this stage. No period but very sore breasts since Sunday- I'm on day 29 since my last period- periods vary from 28 days to 32 so I'm getting very anxious now. Did two cheapy pregnancy tests- one Friday and one Sunday- both negative, possibly too early-****{ baby dust} ***

Know how ye feel, what I thought was implantation bleeding turned out to be AF at day 25 not day 28 which it usually is. So back on day 3 now again. Had nausea and loads of other symptoms so was convinced I was. Oh well onward and upwards and start of a new month as they say!

Just been to the loo and had very light spotting. I'm 11dpo now, so not sure what to think; is it too late for that to be implantation bleeding?

Depending on the cycle they say it can happen anywhere between 6 -12 days after ovulation. Fingers crossed for you! Mine unfortunately turned into AF. Oh well onwards and upwards!

I think this is turning out to be AF. It's heavier today, and I took a test and got a BFN. :( Been really weepy over the last few days, which is something that never happens me in PMS, but did happen just before I found out I was pregnant with my son, so I was sorta hoping that was a good sign.

Bloody typical (no pun intended) that when we're ttc our cycles go all out of whack! I know mine was mad anyway, but my luteal phase was always the same 14-15 days. If I have another 110 day cycle it'll be July before I ovulate again :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,715 ✭✭✭✭fits

    sorry toots. :(

If things have changed, maybe get some bloods done?

Hey I was looking on Amazon and at purchasing Preseed however there seems to be a few different versions of packaging. Does it matter? This is one I found http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004382GWK/ref=pd_luc_rh_sbs_02_01_t_img_lh?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 or this is another http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001G7QNKM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=AOXIB7DEQZZ33 which is the right one?

I was told by go that a digital thermometer that measures to .00 of a degree reading is what you need. You can get these in most good chemist. Mine was under 5euro.

I bought it on inhealth, although it was very pricey but did arrive very quickly. Mine is the the packaging in the first link you posted but I imagine the product is the same in both.

Thats where we got it too, around €25 incl shipping is pricey alright but if it helps then its the best money we have ever spent.

    Ovulation is imminent with us.

She is a bit mopey atm as someone else in her office is finishing on maternity leave today so I picked up a bunch of flowers and a bar of chocolate for her on my way home from work.

Ah that's very nice and thoughtful of you. Fingers crossed for you both. Likewise I agree that it is money well spent if it works.

I'm 3 dpo and the waiting is already starting to kill me, can't stop reading about ovulation, op kits etc, early signs. Really hoping it happens for us this month.

Hi I have pcos and am overweight.we are trying for number 2. It took us 4 years to get pregnant with our son. My cycle is around 34 days I used to never get periods at all so I'm happy that it's getting more regular. I'm not sure when I ovulate I don't test or anything . I am day 23 today I'm not sure if it's too early to even be getting symptoms . My boobs feel heavier , I'm so tired , iv broken out in acne, iv been having the strangest dreams and I can't stop eating . Has anyone else had simular and been pregnant? I can't test yet as it would still be too early still . I'm so impatient. I don't normally get these symptoms before my period maybe my boobs might get little heavier but that's about it . This ttc is hard stuff ☺

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,715 ✭✭✭✭fits

Its really early to be getting symptoms. Anything that happens more than a couple of days before your period can be attributed to something else.

(It doesnt mean that you are not pregnant, but that your symptoms are not caused by pregnancy)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 67 ✭✭Meubles

1 dpo.....here we go again!! It's the first month where we actually got the timing right, managed 2 days, 1 day and day of O so fingers crossed! I was utterly heart broken last month when it was a BFN so am determined to not let it get the better of me this month if it's a BFN. We'll be heading to Bruges the weekend when I can test so at least one way or the other will be distracted.

Business cat very sweet of you being so considerate! I also forget sometimes my OH feels the same as I do regarding pressure/stress/the emotional roller coaster, it's so important to be good to each other and just listen sometimes!

Toots - sorry to hear that :(

Ruailebuile - I know the wait it torture! It would be better for me too if Google didn't exist during the tww (itchy nose surely is a sign of pregnancy!?) :P

Toots have you tried acupuncture? It really helped sort out my cycles

Accupuncture is definitely on my list of things to try, unfortunately it's been an expensive couple of months so funds are super tight at the minute. I suspect I might have PCOS, for a few reasons. I had a blood panel done about a year ago and everything came back normal, but when I look up the symptoms of PCOS I've got an awful lot of them. I know I need to go and get bloods done again, but I'd have to get my hubby to take a day off work and come with me, because I always faint.

I'm not sure if it's a co-incidence, but I gave up sweets and chocolate for lent and then I ovulated, so I think I'm going to continue to stay away from them, and to cut right down on other sugary stuff and see if that makes any difference. Also with the longer evenings I'm finding it easier to get more exercise, so hopefully my next cycle might be a bit shorter. Unfortunately I'm having the period apocalypse right now (TMI) so the chocolate cravings are kicking in :pac:
