There were similar expressions of disbelief after the "I am your father" twist in TESB. "Vader must have been been lying to get Luke to join him", etc.

To the haters... can this movie be saved with a re cut? As in take out the casino planet rubbish...Luke throwing away the light saber and drinking milk from a space otter, the sjw captain rubbish etc. Is there a way to cut the movie and save it?

Pick any page. You’re not allowed say they just want to complain no matter what but when you ask them to post what they do like or would do differently your post gets ignored. With notable exceptions here and there.

I wrote a mini-review the morning after I saw the film with my thoughts, highlighting the good and the bad. I feel most of the people who are focusing on the bad stuff are doing that because it's easy, but that doesnt mean they didn't enjoy other aspects too.

My initial response is funny to look back on.

    What the **** was that?

    No words.

Seeeing it again at midnight. So two hours.

WHAT THE **** DID I JUST WATCH???)

    Ok hand on heart.

It’s way more enjoyable and makes more sense on the second viewing.

Where the **** does Star Wars go after that??

I do not envy JJ Abrams the task in front of him
This film is Brad Pitt at the end of Seven screaming ‘what’s in the box?’

That’s how I feel right now.

Saw it again the other day and enjoyed it much more this time around.

The Canto Bight stuff is barely 10 mins and is done quick enough. In comparison, I've always thought the Jabba stuff in ROTJ was a bit dragged out and the story only really gets going when the Emperor arrives at the Death Star.

On second viewing, this movie is about redeeming Luke, not breaking him. This is actually Lucas' original sequel trilogy story arc for Luke compressed into one movie. The Luke that finishes the movie is the one from the original movies an no doubt will be so again in Episode 9 to guide Rey or haunt Kylo.

Also, Yoda tapping Luke with his walking stick shows Force ghosts can interact in the physical world, so who knows what that means for Luke in the next movie. Actually that whole scene was beautifully done and brought you right back to the Dagobah scenes in ESB.

Blade Runner was disliked when it was released in 1982 because it didn't fit audience expectations at the time (in other words, it wasn't like Star Wars). It took another 15 years before it was regarded as a classic. I've a feeling Last Jedi will go through a similar process and it'll be a few years down the road before audiences finally settle on how they feel about this movie.

Luke ‘s Force projection also touches Leia and gives her the dice(?)...

They were my first thoughts upon seeing the movie. For once I'd love to see a fan edit. I'd even have a go at it myself. If the blu ray deleted scenes of Rey and Luke are of a high enough quality, they could easily be stitched in where they need to be to make up for cutting out most of the Canto Bight bloat, and the smatterings of crap, misplaced humour.

There'll be a fan edit of this film within a week of the blu coming out I reckon. There are already people talking about waht they'll cut to make a better film.

It's two and a half hours long. Almost all movies that length don't need to be. There's a lot I would cut (like the milk scene) to clean it up but at the heart of it I don't think you can fundamentally change the bad choices they made; a recut might make it better but I still don't think it would be good.

My pal suggested a cut that would work.
You can cut just as DJ opens the cell door and then cut out all the space horse cause sequence and just get them to Snokes ship. You lose the kids but ultimately could broom boys story at the end too and have it just end with the falcon shooting off into hyperspace. Probably a way to cut Phasma and Finns fight too.

Apparently he never even touches her and he makes no sound as he moves? I know he leaves no footprints on the salt. But she knows he not really there anyways. I wanna know why she left others dice on the floor. Purely to screw with kylo?

How did the humour go this time? Didn’t notice it at all on further viewings. It was glaring the first time.

Well he’s carrying Han’s dice, hands them to Leia, and then he demonstrably touches her (like most people, I watched it differently the second time). In his interactions with Leia, Luke in no way looks like a Force projection/ghost. But on subsequent viewings, he clearly isn’t there when he’s confronting Kylo Ren.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 7,611 ✭✭✭david75

It’s splitting hairs but Johnson has said he doesn’t actually touch her. It’s when he goes to she realises he’s not really there.
It doesn’t really matter. Obi wans force ghost sits down on a log in ROTJ. They definitely can interact with their surroundings for sure.

Someone said it should have been Anakin instead of Yoda talking to Luke. That would have been amazing but would have added a different layer to the tree getting blown up :)

That was the plan, but Hayden Christensen was too busy in his sandbox...

With regards your ones origins, they did consider all sorts
The silliest one was, ‘Is she a robot?’ Okay, we’ve seen a biomechanical realistic flesh hand on Luke, could the technology have advanced significantly in the 30 years, and then I just started laughing. Look forward to the ‘Rey was almost a robot headlines.'”

I didn't mind it the first time round, these are family movies at the end of the day.

It can’t be saved. The sense of humours just too bad. It’s jar jar bunks bad. It makes the scene between 3-PO and the Ewoks look like The Godfather

Unless they can create a device to erase the original movie from my memory a la Men in Black...No

You’re comparing Blade Runner with The last Jedi!?!? Good god! I went back for 2 more viewings. It’s got some good set pieces, a few good scenes buts it’s dogged by a really bad script. The dialogue is awful. A new hope had some bad script moments but you forgave it because it wasn’t quip after quip. It was draining. Other kids movies have better jokes. It was too easy to be pulled out of the movie, Johnson did nothing new with it btw. He changed direction with the characters big whoop. Look at Looper it was great and did something new. I was so excited he was going to make some maverick movie. No such thing. We should have all known though because Brick was utter junk

As a Star Wars fan I just want to apologise for this film creeping into your minds so often and stealing all your joy. That it would turn you into the kind of people that have to complain about it on the internet repeatedly is unforgivable and I hope that you will be immune from all future Star Wars films theiving your happiness and that you will find more worthwhile and deserving space fantasies that fit within your defined and particular sets of criteria, to meet all your needs and prevent you from any further regrettable and unfortunate experiences that you feel you have to share so often.

Can you not go more then 5 pages without telling people who don't agree with you to stop posting David . You must have done at least 50 times in this thread alone.

Never mentioned me or my opinion. A month out I’m not actively posting telling people they didn’t get the film or are somehow wrong and stupid for enjoying it. Which is all anyone who has enjoyed the film has gotten in this thread. Endlessly. That post was in reply to the previous poster who has mentioned the film in various unrelated threads and I politely took the piss
    Sorry it hurt your feelings.

No you decided to go a more passive aggressive route this time David , but the jist was the same, if you don't like the film stop posting. Fair play on changing it up tho. Look foward to seeing how you reword the same basic message in 5 pages time .

I’ll do it now for you. Maybe this Star Wars just isn’t for those that didn’t like it and that’s ok and they can move on without it but they’ll always have the original trilogy or prequel trilogy and can enjoy them but is repeatedly attacking people that like the new trilogy and want to talk about it? Is that really necesssry?
Somehow attacking people for liking the film is ok but if you say anything in return and there’s a problem.
At least come in with a thought rather than an insipid jar jar comparison. You can at least form a thought no?
I can’t stand football but I’m not in a premiership thread going for anyone that likes it just cos I saw a few games and think I’m an expert all of a sudden. It isn’t as simple as
Don’t like it why post about it? But when it’s repeatedly it’s just trolling.

I might be going crazy here but I would say that there is a world of difference between "attacking people" and "an insipid Jar Jar comparison".

Are you saying there are personal attacks on you cos you liked the movie or just attacks on fans in general? Can you give a few examples from the thread?

I think you'll find that the people who are complaining about it don't hate Star Wars, they just don't like this film.

And it's because they love and grew up with Star Wars and have been waiting close on 40 years for these films that they feel the need to express their dislike for it. The fact that you consider yourself more of an 'expert' than people who dislike the film is only important to you, and it doesn't make your view any more valid.

I just don't get it. TFA came out just over 2 years ago and the fan reaction was mixed.

I really liked the movie but I read the comments of others who didn't like it and I didn't care too much to be honest. I think some of the criticisms are valid, in fact.

Rogue One came out just over a year ago and there was the same kind of thing. Some loved it and others thought it was boring and there was also all kinds of opinions in between.

A year later and people are going out of their way to smear others who didn't like TLJ. What has happened in those 2 years?

Why do Star Wars fans hate each other now?

Is it a reaction to media coverage? Here are a collection of headlines from the weeks after the release of TLJ. I definitely feel like people have been primed to believe that TLJ is a force for good in the world and people who don't like TLJ are somehow bad or angry or not real Star Wars fans.
