There's a thousand different places a talented writer could go on a scale between Superhero & Self-pity Hermit.

This is good. Hamill kinda touches on your point. Kind of.

Absolutely. But he got there in the end and forgave himself. Peace and purpose and all that. He’s gonna he back as a force ghost and that’s way more useful in letting Rey step up and he’s coaching :) be cool to see him follow through on his promise to haunt kylo :)

Whatever about him losing his faith in himself and turning into a hermit, it's his complete abandonment of Kylo and belief that he couldn't be redeemed, that is this films biggest sin. So I guess haunting and presumably taunting him from the grave is perfectly in line with the direction they are going with Luke. Personally I think it's behaviour unbecoming the character and a Jedi.

That’s what Rey is trying to get through to him. His own lack of vision and hubris and his own self defeat in that moment not allowing him see the whole picture. He goes off on one beating himself up for even considering killing Ben but also cos Snoke has worked his way into Ben to such a degree. Seems that Wendy happening his the same method he did the force link and was implanting dark l thoughts and well, darkness in him.
(Think he might be redeemed yet but who knows)

If Kylo isn’t redeemed then what was the point of Han and Luke’s deaths? I don’t envy Abrams’ job having to round out this trilogy.
I don’t think Luke will be back in IX.

Is he kind of redeemed having saved Rey and killed Snoke? Even if it was self serving? I can see them teaming up. Against what though is the question.

Against Hux/First Order? I’d like to see Hux go for it in IX after being kicked around in VIII. I’m actually looking forward to seeing what happens in IX. Hoping it’s not a redemption-by-death Vader rehash anyway.

Wonder if they'd kill Rey and Kylo at the end of IX. It would certainly be an interesting approach to finishing the trilogy.

The TLJ novelisation tells us Hux is a total career animal and sees absolutely everyone underneath him and in the worst British sneering disdain for everything around him but he sees beneath him. Including Kylo. Who he loathes.
So it could well be he takes control of the military. That said they all know he’s a blow hard and a mouth and they’d don’t respect him in any way at all.

I don’t think he’ll be the threat. Could be one of Snokes other apprentices, he’s had a few, come to challenge kylo.

It’s all guesswork and god knows where they go. I trust JJ thiugh. We know it can’t be ROTJ redux. He’s gonna land it hard but we can only hope there’s no mystery box bull****. No place for it in a final act at all.

Is there anything in the novelisation about the Knights of Ren? That glimpse we got of them in TFA piqued my interest, I hope Abrams will use them in the next one.

Not a single word about them at all.
But remember they are JJs invention. So it’s likely they’ll be back as Kylos henchmen or governors, helping him maintain rule.
But absolutely nothin about them so far in canon. Other then it being a safe bet they were the handful of students Kylo ran away with that Luke spoke of. But even that isn’t confirmed. it

I have a funny feeling all of this will be wrapped up in 9 and will all be about Anakin.

What stood out most for me in this was Hamill just suffering through all the banal questions and the bull**** answers from Johnson (and whomever the other guy was).

I'd say Hamill himself would have probably done a nicer job. You can see his skin crawl during the introductions - almost as though Johnson and the other guy were being given equal weighting when it comes to Star Wars.

Hamill is Star Wars royalty, and for him it's been painful to film these new films and go in a direction he didnt want to go, but ultimately he's made the best of it cos he's a good guy.

It's occurred to me that maybe it would have been best if Lucas had finished out his vision himself, but with more help, better producers.

Well it’s a PR tour. THeyre getting asked the same questions ad nauseum. Reigning Hamill in during an interview can be tricky. One question leads to a 15 minute long answer with a million tangents if you let him :)

Other fella is ram Bergman. Executive producer. He’s one of the best out there. You get loads from him in Director and the Jedi. It’s really him that kept it all on target and within budget and schedule.

To be fair they’re among the hardest/more uncomfortable questions I’ve seen them being asked. Particularly about fan reaction. Johnson looks put out kinda.

Well he wants to be in the next film so not unexpected, he's got his message across loud and clear so now he's stepping back into line.

    He's a good lad Mark.

We’re wll thinking he’s a lock to appear but it’s not certain at all. And it wouldn’t be decided by anything he said in an interview.

To give him credit, for a guy that didn’t like what he was given to do in the film he really gave the best performance to it. Probably the best of his career.

Pretty daming. I'm with Hamill. Really frustrating how such a fantastic character was wasted. There was so much cool **** that could have been done with Luke. So dissapointing.

The lack of actual respect for the Jedi in this film is disturbing too. Many don't like that aspect, but that's always been my favourite part of Star Wars - the Jedi.

Just in the middle of rogue one now and it's a far superior film I think

It’s not a saga film and I hated it but came round to it and I love it now. But it isn’t a competition either. You’re gonna see a great many people saying last Jedi is the best of all very soon. Within the year probably. Doesn’t make it right either.

The Shills have already had their say.

When Solo tanks and Rian's trilogy is cancelled the critics will feel comfortable enough to give their real opinions!

Are you calling me a shill? Really?between rent and bills I can barely eat but if there are Disney dollars coming my way do you know when they’re coming?

you’re somehow sure Solo will tank? You’re sure Johnson’s trilogy is ‘cancelled’?

    Wow.

No i was talking about the 91% Fresh critics & all the reviewers on Youtube whose negative initial reviews suddenly all turned positive at the same time.

    Calm down :D

There a, lot of experts here... So excuse my non expertship... After seeing the film in the cinema twice and just watching it again tonight.. It is such a let down of a movie.
Luke hiding away to die, it's like Bruce Wayne at the start of the dark Knight rises, hiding away for 7years. Batman would never hide for 7 years.

Anyway, it's one of those stories that really didn't really make me want to see another. A major character died, we still know nothing about the big bad, rey is chewies buddy, leía is immune to Boyles law, casino planets gave no internal security..
benicio del torres with a stutter, and did nothing, is still more interesting than anything else.

    Sadness

I love it. You’re not wrong for not liking it. I’m not wrong for liking it.

Either way, this kid is all of of us. So happy for him. And what a well played answer

What drugs are you on? Jedi is probably only marginally better than prequels. It's not even the best Star Wars of the last 4 years.

You have to hand it to George, after all the **** he took from the fans over the prequels he ****ed them over good by selling out to Disney.
