The only reason to become really concerned over reshoots IMO is when they appear to be taking place without the filmmaker's consent or amid rumblings of a generally troubled production. There are plenty of genuine reasons to get the cast & crew back together for a few days - even just for a few extra shots from a second unit to make everything flow smoother.

As sad a thought as it is, I wonder too if such reshoots would potentially allow Johnson and co. to start reacting to Carrie Fisher's death. Given the potential consequences of Fisher's tragic absence in the next film, a few tweaked or additional lines of dialogue or something along those lines could somewhat ease the load on Episode IX. Such a shame such conversations even need to happen :(

Anyone with even a passing interest in film knows reshoots happen.
Joe public usually doesn't and click bait sites stirring the internet into meltdown cos reshoots are happening as they did with rogue one is what I'm referring to.

They used to be called pickups. Some a hole invented the phrase reshoots and now it's a taper for meltdown.

Thats not actually true at all. Pick-ups are usually small studio shots inserted after the fact. They generally only include one actor or two on a stage or a green screen. It might only be a few lines of dialogue that they splice into a scene. Movies still do pick-ups all the time. It's minor and doesnt shift the story or tone of the movie. It's mostly for continuity.

Re-shoots are not that. They are more longer, more expensive and involve a lot of new footage often completely changing a movie. The type of re-shoots that reportedly happened with Star Wars and Suicide Squad could not be described as pick-ups at all.

It was probably inevitable theyd reshoot certain scenes if this will now be Carrie Fisher's final appearance. I'd previously read a rumour that her screen time is reduced due to being injured in a battle, you can guess what the reshoots may be doing.

It's no surprise reshoots are becoming a feature given the mega budgets of modern movies. Rogue One's early trailers looked a bit dodgy, all those scenes got ditched after the fans reaction and the movie made a billion dollars. Case closed !!!

Again I was referring to the appropriation of the term by click bait 'news' outlets as a gateway to hysteria to infer a production is in trouble And the truth of either term is not related to that hysteria at all. Reshoots or pick ups are only a director and editor seeing things can be enhanced or improved upon. The term has become tainted and the fact of the matter lost.

And like someone said above reshoots made rogue one a great film. So what's the problem with them?

But the click bait sites don't follow that logic at all. Which is a head wreck.

Hamill has confirmed he's in the U.K. For a totally different purpose unrelated to Star Wars. Also Disney have confirmed the extras casting is for a marvel film not Star Wars. So it's debunked.

    Any sign of a trailer?

Seems a little late to not even have a teaser if it's releasing in December?

Can expect it at Star Wars Celebration in April most likely.

Rogue One didn't work for me at all, I'm not blaming the reshoots but I'd like to see what was originally intended. I think the previous poster said the reshoots made it "stronger" which is impossible to say. I agree that there's no need for hysteria but at the same time I'm not going to assume these reshoots can only make the film better; Suicide Squad is a mess, another film is the most recent Fantastic Four although the troubles behind that film were well publicised.

But I'm not worried in this instance, given that this thread is the only place I've seen people talking about the TLJ reshoots.

With all of the secrecy that is associated with sw, you'd expect that there would be a few explanations to put people off the trail if they were undertaking reshoots.

Think it's strange and a bit of a shame they're still doing the secrecy thing. It was 100% necessary with TFA as it was the first film in decades. Now though? I'm not sure they need to.

That said they still get really intense about any kind of info leaking. The lads from making Star Wars have a 90% accuracy rating on their info and as a result they've been denied press passes for celebration in Orlando. Which is kind of petty given all the other sites and podcasts that take their news from MSW have been granted passes.

Pains me to say it but this is a pretty awesome and 100% fact on what we know definitely about luke in the time between Jedi and force awakens. It's only a few minutes and they've really done their homework with the scant few details that are fact and canon.

    So yeah.
Yoda is in the last Jedi

There are reports that you might reprise Yoda in the new “Star Wars.”

I feel like I’m a prisoner at war here, and I can only give you my name, rank and serial number. To be true to the people who asked me, and they are kind of my family, I have to say I’ve been asked not to talk about it. I love Yoda. I would be happy to talk to you about it at the time they let me.

I know people here don't take Star Wars Rebels seriously. But the latest episode Twin Suns is a must watch. It's got such a brilliant ending and ties a serious strand and character up so brilliantly.

I know it's off-topic, but I flipped over to the last few minutes of Return of the Jedi on Sky 1. Haven't seen it in ages but I thought I was imagining things when Vader shouts Noooo while throwing the Emperor down into the bowels of the Death Star so ran it back and nope, apparently it's a thing now!

    FFS Lucas :(

Not exactly related to The Last Jedi, more so Star Wars in general, but Hayden Christensen is coming back at Star Wars Celebration Orlando as part of a Star Wars 40th Anniversary panel.

My twitter was the happiest I've seen it since marriage equality result with this news. People are over the moon he's gonna be there. And what it could possibly mean?

It pretty much has to happen for Anakin to appear in either last Jedi or in 9.
This might be a nod to that.

His first Star Wars Celebration since 2002 apparently.. As for him being there, besides for the SW 40th Anniversary Panel, I'd say much like you an appearance in The Last Jedi as a vision/Force Ghost, or he'll be the one who pulls Kylo back to the light at the end of 9, similar to how Luke did in Return Of The Jedi all those years ago..

Or he's possibly coming back for a Vader spin off, rumours have been making the rounds about it. There's probably a whole lot of Vader that we haven't seen.

Plus I read somewhere that Disney are planning for 15 more years of Star Wars films.

I think they're gonna use Anakin in place of Leia in light of carries passing.
He'll be the one that talks to kylo and pulls him back. The showdown between Leia and kylo would have been so powerful.

Gotta disagree about Vader. I'd say we're done seein him on screen ever again. Just can't see a stand alone about him happening.

Iger did say we have 15 years of Star Wars films ahead yet Kathleen Kennedy said they're gonna pump the brakes and 'starve' us of Star Wars films for a while so as to avoid fatigue in the cinema audience.

I gotta agree with that. It's a good move. They're less special if they're turning up every year. Certainly doesn't look like the 2 films a year is gonna happen.

Or and I'm just throwing it out there, when the people behind Star Wars got wind of Carrie's hospitalization, they made the choice to call Hayden Christensen just as a back up in case Carrie didn't make, as we all know now she didn't..

If a Vader spin off doesn't come to pass, maybe keep him as a special attraction, he'd be Star Wars equivalent of The Avengers, everyone will want to see him when he does appear, Avengers comparison made sense in my head..

As for the "starving us of Star Wars", it's a good idea, don't want people to burn out on them, especially if they were to put out 2 a year similar to Marvel and Warner Brothers/DC.. I know a few friends who are starting to get a little sick of the constant super hero films coming out.

I can't remember where I read it but apparently the plan is the three standalones, rogue one Han and presumably Obi Wan, are all set prior to a new hope and the films after that will move away from that period. Which is a good idea.
There aren't really any other stories or origin stories you can tell in that period that are all that engaging.

Unless they do actually make a Vader film set after revenge of the sith about him hunting Jedi that escaped order 66. We know that there are a good few and that happened that he caught and tortured and killed them in his castle on Mustafar. But to make that movie you have to go 18s. And I can't see Star Wars ever doing that.

The focus is to switch to tv series soon though. That's all but confirmed and there's loads of stories they could do there for an adult audience. Loads.

Watching the live stream from Star Wars celebration. The trailer is tomorrow.
They had Hayden Christensen and Ian McDiarmad on stage together. It was deadly.

Then later a Carrie fisher tribute. Then they lifted a curtain and They had john Williams. THE John Williams and a whole orchestra playing Leias theme. I'm crying.

    That was awesome.its on YouTube.
