There's really only a few instances in the 'Rogue One' trailer that didn't jive with the finished film and TBH, getting rid of the "I rebel" line was entirely helpful to the finished piece. That line was bloody awful.

But, I agree, trailers need to go back to showing snippets and not giving an outline of the entire film. Plus, they really need to keep important reveals and the best scenes out of the trailer.

Always thought the trailers for 'Alien(s)' had it done well. All WTF, quick cuts and noise. You were none the wiser about the actual film, but you damn well knew you wanted to see it.

Another thing that irritates the shit out of me is multiple trailers for a film too. Make one and show it. I don't want to see any more. We already have a trailer for 'The Last Jedi'. It's got people's interests piqued and hasn't given away anything important. No more are needed.

I won't be watching any more in any case.

Really don't understand people getting annoyed when trailer scenes aren't in a film. Surely it's much worse when all the good scenes are in the trailer?

Completely agree, but it was perfectly suitable for the trailer. It tells me everything I needed to know about Jyn Erso, while giving very little away, and for or a trailer, and trailer only, I think it's a kwel line. There was also a beautiful shot with her dressed in full imperial attire with lights sprinkling up around her, with Forest Whitaker line “What will you become", all played out over a Star Destroyer alarm. It was a magnificent trailer, which gave very little away and one of those rare times I actually wanted to go back and see the film again after seeing the trailer. I'd love to see more films take this approach and use footage specifically shot for previews, then use this one cool trailer and nothing else.

You need different trailers though. If you don't market a film you don't make any money (hello Valerian). I do wonder about why there's usually a teaser then a trailer and then a usually much better international trailer. But they need to make trailers.

It's the endless tv spots that get to me but they're probably most important of all in real terms.

Hmmm, 10 minutes longer than the previous longest Star Wars film. I like it. Hopefully, this gives plenty of time to develop the characters and build towards an intriguing story and satisfying conclusion.

With a final run time confirmed, there is no excuse for the final trailer. We can probably expect one in the next two weeks.

That run time isn't confirmed just seen in a U.K. Cinema companys listening by but the film is in the can and totally finished so it's probably a safe bet.

Do hope its this long. If any films needs it it's this. It's only 15 minutes longer than TFA but TFA flies by. Be better if this one simmers and spends time with the story.

Finally got this today. Scored it for under £20 on eBay. It weighs about a kilo. Must have cost at least that again to send it. Immediately reminded every Star Wars film was in crisis during production but none more than the very first one. Weird that the Last Jedi was so peacefull and hassle free.

One of these things is not like the others :)

Update: Both the Fandango and AMC Theatres apps have been updated with new information about The Last Jedi and list its runtime as 2 hours and 30 minutes, which matches Cineworld's listing. Interestingly, both apps also include the film's rating, which is (unsurprisingly) PG-13:

    Why interestingly?
    since unsurprisingly.

I think they created the Porgs because it would have been to difficult & costly to CGI out the existing birds

    You're 100% correct.
You have to watch every step on skellig cos you might be standing on their nests under steps or burrowed in the grass. And being sea birds they have never evolved to have a natural flight response if you approach them so they're all over the place very literally. So it was simply incorporate them somehow.

Oddly enough they don't nest up around the monastery itself. Just everywhere else though.

Tomorrow night. Around 1am Irish time. It's airing during some football game in the US.

It looks like details will get announced from tomorrow. The trailer will drop late tonight in the US so it's essentially Tuesday for it and ticket details as the SW UK Twitter states.

Lighthouse in Smithfield are selling them 7am tomorrow morning and I think I read the cineworld sale begins tonight at midnight but I can't confirm that or if that's in the UK

Rians comment that we should avoid the trailer if we don't want to be spoiled has me wondering. What will it give away?
Luke wielding a lightsaber? Snoke in the flesh? Luke and Leia reunion?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,449 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

I'll be avoiding it like the plague anyway.

Far too much given away in trailers these days.

He basically is saying 'if you want to go in clean then avoid, but the trailer is great so....'.

I've no doubt if he felt anything would spoil the movie in a big way he would just outright say to avoid.
