Christ did anyone have the displeasure of tuning into her birthday show last Saturday?

I caught 5 minutes while my hands were too dirty to change the dial and it was basically her asking kids,

"what's your name". "do you have any brothers or sisters". "they're lovely names" "so how old are you". "when's your birthday" "did you get your face painted"

Oh my good god I nearly put my finger through the button trying to get over to Fanning!

Are the promos for the show meant to let you know what you missed out on. if it is well I am not missing out on too much. this week one has been about asking siri things and the second was about Vicks vapor rub.

Hahaha she nearly didn't say "blow dry"

I tried, I really tried to listen to her show last week but it just not Today FM material. It really needs a proper radio person like Rick O Shea. I don't know why they won't take the plunge and sign him.

I agree, I rarely make it to the 3 o clock news on her show

Listenership figures are out usually at the start of May right? So I'm guessing that means May 6th...how will Today FM react if there is another bad book, last book only Dempsey was solid and actually gained, the rest were down. Can they persevere with Louise Duffy if she drops again, below the current 94,000 listeners???

I wonder are her poor figures down to people turning off Dermot & Dave and just forget to switch back over?

The lead in could play a part with the lunchtime slot being down 30,000+ listeners since its heyday, but Duffy still manages to drop around 27,000 listeners from D&D.

A lot of whom probably switch over to Darcy. Infuriatingly bad as he is he does have a following. Which is a pretty bad reflection on us as a nation.

Would you listen to Darcy if you like D&D tho...I wouldn't think so but who knows...

I wouldn't listen to either if I had the choice. As it happens I do have the choice re Darcy :)

He is wasted only being on at weekends now and would do great in that slot.

Yeah completely agree, terrible figures, if they drop much more you would think they would have to make a change...

Really not good enough...D&D lost listeners too, so did everyone on TodayFM weekdays besides Cooper and Fergal Darcy.

I think she's great craic. Listen every day, doesn't take herself too seriously.
    I'd rather her to d'arcy

Figures are horrendous when compared with closest competitor Tracey Clifford on 2FM...

Tracey clifford is just more natural on the radio doesnt feel forced.

She's a better presenter but her voice drives me mental.

Enjoyed the show today...Louise was off and Paula MacSweeney covering. She's by no means perfect and still learning but I find her far more enjoyable to listen to, far more relatable to than Duffy I think!

I like Louise, she seems like a nice girl and I really wanted her to do well but I find it very hard to listen to her these days.

A lot of these female presenters namely Louise, Paula and Muireann who worked with Ray Foley, seem to just ramble on about nonsense. Or they're trying to be funny / having the craic / banter and talking about silly things. They'll play 1 song and it's usually a poor song at that, and then they ramble on for what seems like an enternity before playing another song.

Less chat and more music girls. Simple.

She has nothing to write home about either to be fair. Big gaping hole in afternoon radio in the country at the minute. The local and multi indies are providing a better service.

    Thank 4FM for Gareth O'Callaghan!

I still can't believe that LD was chosen as a replacement for the late Tony Fenton. This slot is crying out for an established radio name, like Gareth, Phil Cawley, Will Leahy, Rick O'Shea or perhaps Ian Dempsey. Irish radio listeners like familiarity.

I think Today FM just need to get rid off the legacy time slots that they brought in back in 2004 to put Darcy head to head with G ryan. I think they should move to 7=10 Breakfast 10=1 Midmorning show, 1=15 News, 1.15=430 afternoon show.

Phil had the morning show before Ray D'Arcy, iirc, and it wasn't great.

Dempsey will stay in the morning slot, he likes it and does it well.

    Rick O'Shea, no thanks.

I like the show, an eclectic mix of music and a bit of banter, nothing serious.

Rick O'Shea? Good god no. His silly Atlantic 252-esque name, the faux accent and Twitter waffling is like nails on a chalkboard for me. Each to their own, but it's an instant channel changer for me whenever I hear that voice which thankfully is rare these days.

Good suggestion above to tweak the show timings a bit. Dempsey used to do 7-10 before D'Arcy's ego wanted to start at 9 and I think it'd be no harm to revert back to that.

I would agree that their afternoon does need a stronger established radio voice, just not "Rick" please.

The faux accent is surpassed by his guffaw laugh, I actually enjoy all the shows from Ian Dempsey to Matt Cooper. Louise is upbeat and light humour I like her show.

I would agree but she has 121,000 listeners and though also seeing a recent decline is quite the ways ahead of Louise Duffy whose show is more established.

I didn't like Louise at the start but I've always liked Ann since ray and JP were on, This has kept me listening and she has grown on me, She will often play music that is a bit off the radar which I like. The one on now is very boring and generic and has no personality at all imo and if ya want annoying people on the radio top of that list should be Fergal Darcy.

That's the name he used when he was on Atlantic 252 to be fair. Not ususual for him to keep it.

Yeah I know... And to be fair I vaguely recall him admitting in some interview that he would love to drop it but he stuck with it too long...

This show is unlistenable, to me anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭ford fiesta

LD is moving to weekday evenings 7 to 9 pm doing an 'Alternative show' and FD is getting the afternoon slot...so a 'swap'. Afternoon ratings will plummet even further, evenings will be non-existent.

Definitely a good change by Today FM moving Louise, that need to be happen, but disappointed its Fergal D'arcy taking it.

She's going into the online fashion business apparently, (hope her taste in fashion is better than her husbands)...

She used to annoy me but she's really grown on me. I haven't liked what little I've heard of Fergal D'arcy but I'll give him a chance. As long as Anton and D&D stay where they are I'll be happy!

She might want to rethink the name of her website though. It's not very catchy. Hope she does well with it anyway.

I've only listened to Fergal Darcy a bit (i.e. when I'm in the car and he's on) and found him to be a little bit annoying. Him and his sidekick have a kind of forced banter that I found to be irritating.

In saying that, I'll give him a chance to change my mind

I like the music but he comes across as a bit too frantic for my liking at times.

Yeah, that's the description I was looking for. Jumps from one thing to another, talking over people etc. Foley does it too but he does be funny where Darcy isn't really (he's more cheesy)

These were my favourite parts of the article, I actually nearly choked on my coffee reading this

    1. "Not content with conquering broadcasting"
    2. "I went to Today FM with my idea and they were so good to give me the opportunity to move to an easier way of life"

They should consider going into stand up comedy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

I'd echo the majority of the sentiments here tbh.

I think Louise had to go from daytime, she just hasn't worked out for whatever reason. Personally, I think her style of presenting suited early mornings as she's very softly spoken, I just never felt she brought the required energy to afternoons.

That said, I'm also disappointed that it's Fergal D'Arcy getting the slot. I've heard him a few times on his own show, and a few times doing cover, and I dunno, he just doesn't draw me in. He does seem to be popular, so I hope it works out for both him and Today FM, and I will be giving him a shot, but I'm not overly confident that I'll be a regular listener tbh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

Thats a disaster. Fergal Darcy is worse than Paula McSweeney and that is saying something. Louise may not have been everyones cup of tea, but she is in a far higher league than Darcy.

FFS, get rid of one Darcy and get another.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,596 ✭✭✭threein99

I think she will be better suited to the evening slot, she has a good taste in music. Not a fan of that Darcy bloke so will probably still be switching off after Dermot and Dave

I'll miss Louise in that spot I think she's a nice girl, easy listening and good craic

She just announced it. Gave the reasons as 1) Her website taking up a lot of time 2) The fact she's tied with the music she can play.

Number 2 is true I'm sure - Today FM really do play the same songs over and over. But seems like a strange one for her to use, kind of like a diss at Today FM.

I wonder did she request the move or was she pushed. I think her numbers were bad last time around?
