    Interesting

Dull here in Arklow and the third day in a row the temp has maxed out around 5c

For guaranteed snow, there's a number of public roads in co wicklow above 1000ft,just park your camper van at the highest point and be stocked up
Lots of batteries and a torch will make do as a lamp post

I tink mets readings for kerry are away off.
There's a massive difference between valentia and North kerry.
It would take something serious to get a low temp reading where there station is

Seems to be nothing tracking around eastern parts tonight as per usual it seems to be parts of the Midlands in control. Can't really see anything making it as far as places like Meath or Dublin really

GFS seems to have shifted to the cold side, setting up a pseudo-Scandi High into early next week. :P UKMO still showing a rise in pressure around Greenland. Not much of a route to zonal weather atm it would seem. :D

UKMO also wants to set up an undercut scenario. Could be good news for Irish snow lovers if that's the case. :D

The GFS does delay the return of the full on Atlantic until after the middle of next week now. This type of setup could end up being very wet but wouldn't worry about that yet since there is significant disagreement on the models well before this point.

Light rain snow being reported at Knock airport since the 15:30 update.

Might be good idea to have a snow reporting thread, 2.8c here in Donegal now and raining. I'm sure it's snowing in the hills

It's bad enough having this thread and the general (Winter Weather) thread going, without adding another thread!

Any snow reports can/should be posted in this 'event' thread.

Yeah your probably right, but wait until Dublin gets a snowflake :P and you might eat your words

I was just about to come back and say the same thing! :P

As there is a very low/no snow risk in Dublin, no need for another thread....:D

Synoptic analysis for this day in 1987. C/O UK Met.

    374793.PNG

Brought some heavy snowfalls to parts of the east. What I find interesting though is that there was no major frontal activity in the vicinity of Ireland during this memorable spell. The snowfalls during that time must have come more from showery troughs and/or Irish Sea 'streamers'

    New Moon

Snowfall must have come from convective showers so, as thunder rarely, if ever, occurs in fully formed 'bent back' occlusions.

There was a frontal feature for definite on a friday during that
It came down from Scandinavia across Northern England and pepped up over the Irish sea, dumped a foot of snow around Dublin,Wicklow and Wexford and continued south westwards across the country exiting into the Atlantic weakening around Kerry
It even gave snow to Valentia
I lived in Ballinteer at the time and had to walk to bird avenue to get a bus into town as they only went that far and wanted to get to Connolly
The train to Arklow went through some awe inspiring snow from Glenealy through Rathdrum and Avoca
When I got back to Arklow, the car at home was buried on its east side

Just to add,Ian mccaskills forecast for that episode, might be that day is on youtube, its where he described the feature as the great white siberian army is coming
